I find GIFs totally annoying and disturbing. I always hated them on other sites and am really glad that they don't appear to be a thing in the fediverse yet.
Furthermore, if mastodon introduces GIFs, I really would appreciate a feature for Friendica to replace them with a small, generic, non-animated placeholder.
Ich persönlich mag die Gifs auch nicht. Ich denke aber, dass diese vor allem bei der "jüngeren Generation" total in sind und auch wichtig, somit auch ein Bedürfnis da ist.
Aber sollte nicht die "jüngere Generation" diesen, ihren Wunsch in dem Fall selber äußern? (oder noch besser die Implementierung dann auch gleich stemmen?)
Wäre nicht schlecht für alle Plattformen (finde ich - ich nutze aber auch gerne gifs) Sollte dann aber Konfigurierbar sein ob ich jetzt ein dienst nehme wie giphy das zu Meta gehört oder was "freies" oder Selbstgehostetes (Falls es sowas gibt)
Actually, I really like it the way it is. On mobile it's a no-brainer, just attach the image and you're done. In the Web-UI I appreciate that I'm able to select an album first.
@Martin Schmitz @Michael Vogel Can you elaborate? What do you mean with mobile? There is a mobile web UI but you seem to be referring to something else.
As for your remark about web UI: Wouldn't it be easier to just drag an image into a post and have that automatically added to that post? What aspect do you prefer when having to go through albums first? I have not count them but think that is more than one additional click needed for the album workflow.

I like to categorize image uploads and to be able to send a link to someone: look at my image gallery about <foobar>. But on the other hand: I'm a unix nerd and don't use drag and drop anyway.

@Martin Schmitz These days animated GIF and looped videos are used interchangeably. Looped videos have better controls to stop the animation for example.

no, no we do not. Some of the noobs want it, but I see it only as encouraging eating more valuable server space. Its already possible to include GIFs the same wasy you do any other photo, so those who want it can still use it. !helpers
@Jakob :friendica: @Michael Vogel , liegt das nicht auch mit daran, dass auf dem jeweiligen Friendica-Server keine unendlich vielen großen Daten gespeichert werden, sondern über pixelfed u.a. eingebunden werden (müssen)? Mit ein bisschen Übung finde ich das nicht mehr so schwierig.

While doing macroblogging it is very near to blogging (Cpt Obvious ^^) and I like to have images in blog entries showing what I am writing about.
While doing microblogging I don't care really. If I see accounts spamming my TL with gifs only (memes i.e) I can unfollow simply. 🤷♂️
