I imagine you first write the (long) blog and then generate the <500k pieces for the threaded post, correct?
Are you doing this manually or do you have a tool that does the segmentation? If so, which one?

"Next I past the whole post into a Mastodon compose field. Working by trial and error, I cut it down to <500 characters, breaking at a para-break and putting the rest on my clipboard. I post, reply, and add the next item in the thread until it's all done."
That's how I still do it, too.
However, IMO there are better ways to do this automatically.
If MS-Excel had bigger (rather unlimited) field lengths, I could program it myself...

"First and foremost, I do it for me. The memex I've created by thinking about and then describing every interesting thing I've encountered is hugely important for how I understand the world. It's the raw material of every novel, article, story and speech I write.
And I do it for the causes I believe in. There's stuff in this world I want to change...

No. It's on purpose. The company doesn't matter to them. They can go rui?n a new one.
All that matters is how much money they can make on the way down.

Google has become too big to care and we are all bearing the costs.
"What's behind all the tech companies enshittifying all at once – is that tech worker power has been smashed, especially at Google, where 12,000 workers were fired just months after a $80b stock buyback that would have paid their wages for the next 27 years."

in reply to Kyle Montanio • • •the buybacks aren't a google problem, they're a government-enabled tax cheat to move profits from annually taxed dividends to "maybe never taxed" capital gains. If we're not going to close the loophole, we shouldn't be surprised when companies keep using it.
