#Bitwarden is no longer #freesoftware.

... and #Vaultwarden is doomed to become obsolete

So there isn't really anything more to do, except pack your things once more and find and alternative. That's what I did this afternoon, going back once more to #keepassxc which has greatly improved from the last time I used it, and it can leverage #Nextcloud to keep all my devices synced.

All in all it is a tedious process, but it prevents the mind from rusting too much and abandoning itself to being used to... Breaking things, changing habits, that's the way to do it, until you've got the energy for it.

I also expect that #Vaultwarden software will quickly gain technical debt and become obsolete, since it cannot use the new SDK.

"#Bitwarden is no longer #FreeSoftware"
That's not the case @77nn

Which can be reviewed here
github.com/bitwarden/sdk/issue…

And quotes BW's intentions
"However, our goal is to make sure that the SDK is used in a way that maintains GPL compatibility"

That is, as long you consider GPL #freesoftware 😉

I'm sure there are and there will be statements and counter-statements stating what it is and what it is not. I honestly can't care less.

Here I see a clear attempt at discouraging third parties at investing time and effort in forks and alternate versions, which probably backfired and forced someone to somehow reassure the community.

Long story short: I don't trust them any more. To me they're just looking for the more viable shit-storm-less way to start this new #enshittification process.

syncthing is a good and easy way to sync things between devices

waut wtf?
i use a fork, but idk how the discontinuation will affect it: github.com/Catfriend1/syncthin…
you can also probably use syncthing in termux, but that comes with a higher learning curve

I'm not running Nextcloud myself, and I use it for syncing my devices.

Nextcloud, but not running it myself. There are plenty of providers out there: nextcloud.com/sign-up/

Here's an important update regarding #BitWarden

A few days ago you may have seen this post of mine:
goto.77nn.it/@77nn/statuses/01…

Today I learn that Bitwarden has stepped back and adjusted the SDK license claiming a miscommunication issue (you can read the details here: github.com/bitwarden/clients/i…).

I mean... that's great! That's what all the fuss was about. If nobody said anything this was going to go unnoticed until the very last.

I still don't trust them anymore, considering it's about a password manager, but I thought it was right and important to report the rest of the story, so far.
