Oxford now has electric double-decker buses serving the park-and-rides. The centre is given over to pedestrians.
I can remember the chaos of a dozen different bus companies competing to see which could use the oldest buses, belching the most black smoke.
The transformation is breathtaking but the gentrification is also extraordinary. House prices have mushroomed. What looked like a protest march was the flood of incoming tourists from the London trains.
A lot of positives. Much employment in service industries. But the whole thing sculpted around the convenience of the seriously rich. Arabic a mainstream language now.
