"Flipboard have adopted the same icon as Threads"

That is interesting.

@stefan there's a whole conversation thread over here -> flipboard.social/@mike/1129641…

@sneexy @gabboman fair question. I don’t think the fediverse icon works particularly well when scaled down and when placed next to or on top of avatars. Also the vast majority of people have never even seen that icon. Meanwhile the threads fediverse icon is simple and clean, doesn’t rely on color, and works well scaled down. Most of all, whether we like it or not, millions of people are being exposed to this icon everyday on Threads as a symbol of the fediverse so I think it’s a pragmatic choice.

Thank you for sharing that!

I'm not going to lie, this is a bit disappointing. There's plenty of other proposed logos, and if Meta can make their own, I don't see why Flipboard can't do the same.

I guess you were right @liaizon when you warned about this!

@Stefan Bohacek @wakest ⁂ @Andy Piper for what it's worth, I love both the original Fediverse logo AND the asterism unicode character.

I would not want to use something created by Meta. Shuddering at the thought of that! It's like having the Rebel Alliance adopt something by the Galactic Empire - unthinkable, no thank you!
