Donbass on the Brink: Russia’s Summer Offensive is Shattering Ukraine’s Defenses

Germany invaded Poland, and in response, the USSR went into Poland to keep Germany from occupying all of Poland, which would have broken the agreement regarding “spheres of influence.” In fact, Germany did break that agreement, and the “parade” was about Germany withdrawing from its overreach into the USSR’s “sphere.”
It marked the withdrawal of German troops to the demarcation line secretly agreed to in the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, and the handover of the city and its fortress to the Soviet Red Army.
Once Germany entered Poland, all of Poland would have been occupied by the Nazis if the USSR did nothing, and that would have put the German forces right on the USSR’s border.
And why did generous general Stalin agree to that whole spheres of influence thing in the first place? If he wanted to protect poor Poland from the evil Germanz, surely telling the world about Hitler's evil plans would have been even better? Or at least warning Poland.
But hm, strange, nothing of the sort was done. One could get the impression generous general Stalin didn't care for the plight of the common polish citizen that was just to be unleashed on them.
If he wanted to protect poor Poland from the evil Germanz, surely telling the world about Hitler’s evil plans would have been even better? Or at least warning Poland.
This assumes that 1) Poland was somehow unaware of what its neighbor was up to and 2) the USSR was aware and chose not to tell them. Those are some big assumptions.
That Germany was very likely going to invade Poland was hardly a secret. Why else would the USSR have two weeks before offered Britain & France to send in a million of its troops to kill the baby while it was still in the crib? And why did they wait until that offer was refused before signing a non-aggression pact with Germany, a week before Germany invaded?
"Had the British, French and their European ally Poland, taken this offer seriously then together we could have put some 300 or more divisions into the field on two fronts against Germany - double the number Hitler had at the time," said [Major General] Lev Sotskov, who joined the Soviet intelligence service in 1956. "This was a chance to save the world or at least stop the wolf in its tracks.""It was clear that the Soviet Union stood alone and had to turn to Germany and sign a non-aggression pact to gain some time to prepare ourselves for the conflict that was clearly coming," said Gen Sotskov.
It was only two years later, following Hitler's Blitzkreig attack on Russia in June 1941, that the alliance with the West which Stalin had sought finally came about - by which time France, Poland and much of the rest of Europe were already under German occupation.
The USSR had known for years that Nazi Germany was going to eventually try to destroy it. The Anti-Comintern pact had been signed six years before. Destroying communism was one of Nazi Germany’s primary goals, which is why first they came for the Communists. The USSR agreed to the Pact in order to buy itself time to built up its military for the inevitable invasion attempt by Germany.

On March 17 [1939] the British Government suddenly remembered the existence of the Soviet Union and inquired what its attitude would be toward the Hitler threat in Eastern Europe. Moscow replied promptly and proposed an immediate conference between Britain, France, the U.S.S.R., Poland, Rumania and Turkey to consider how to resist German aggression. This was exactly and obviously what was urgently needed. Nothing less than a drawing together of all the threatened states could be of any avail. Rumania was under intense pressure to turn over her economy to Germany and the quickest action was needed.
However, the Chamberlain clique could not make the shift. Knowing that they wanted to solve the Nazi menace on the plains of Russia, they ascribed to Russia the very same design of which they were guilty, as devious men so often do. They had a “deep seated conviction,” shared also by the French Rightists, that Russia wished to destroy the capitalist system in Europe by provoking a war from which she would remain aloof.5 The entire diplomatic record of the past five years belied this self-justifying suspicion. It showed that Russia was desperately anxious to avoid war, but also that on every occasion, without exception, she had sought to avoid war for herself by combining with others to prevent aggression or nip it in the bud. It was Russia which had incessantly pleaded that “peace is indivisible,” warning that if war came all would be engulfed in it.
All this had meant nothing to conservative men bent on making terms with fascism and preserving it. Now, therefore, Chamberlain hesitated a week until Rumania capitulated and on March 18 notified Russia that her conference proposal was “premature.” This was the same rebuff given to Russia when she had proposed a conference a year earlier, at the time of Hitler’s conquest of Austria. Again there was no hurry, but this time Chamberlain did propose a substitute plan whereby Britain, France, Russia and Poland would consult if any further acts of aggression were believed to be imminent, but even this proposal was abortive, since it was at once learned, says Chamberlain’s biographer, that “Poland would refuse contact with the Soviet, which alone was enough to prevent us from taking up the Russian proposal for a six-power conference.” Chamberlain did not blame the Polish Government. He confided to his diary, on March 26: “I must confess to the most profound distrust of Russia,”6

Their only option was a deal along these lines to buy time for themselves to build up productive forces.

“Guess those inaugural donations are starting to pay off, because Trump and Republicans’ ‘Big Ugly Bill’ not only funded tax breaks for Meta, Amazon, Google, and Apple, but also for the billionaires who run them. To pay for these Big Tech giveaways, Republicans are throwing everyday Americans off their healthcare and ending lifesaving scientific research and public broadcasting,” said Sacha Haworth, Executive Director of The Tech Oversight Project. “Rest assured, when Democrats are back in power, law-breaking Big Tech companies will pay their fair share.”

How to turn off Gemini on Android — and why you should
Google is quietly rolling out its Gemini AI tool as the default assistant on Android, even on devices where users never explicitly enabled it. In many cases, Gemini replaces Google Assistant by default, making it increasingly challenging to disable fully.
This deep integration means Gemini can still be active in the background, accessing your apps, system features, and personal info.
Here's what Gemini can access:
Gmail
Google Calendar
Google Drive & Docs
Maps, Keep, Tasks
Messages, Phone, and even WhatsApp
Even more concerning:
Your data is used to train Google’s AI.
Human reviewers may see your chats.
Data can be shared with 3rd parties.
As of July 2025, Gemini stays connected to apps even when activity tracking is turned off.
🛑 You can’t fully disable Gemini, but you can limit it:
How to limit Gemini on Android:
Turn off activity tracking
Revoke permissions
Uninstall it (if possible)
Further options, if you’re privacy-conscious:
Reduce your reliance on Google services or fully de-Google
Consider a privacy-first OS like GrapheneOS or CalyxOS
⚠️ Google is making Gemini the default assistant for all Android devices by the end of 2025.
Choose privacy over AI surveillance.
If you want tools that respect your data, ensure you use encrypted email, a private calendar, and a secure cloud, with no AI training or human review.

Pam Bondi is breaking the DOJ
“If confirmed, I will work to restore confidence and integrity to the Department of Justice — and each of its components,” Pam Bondi vowed during her confirmation hearing in January. “Under my watch, the partisan weaponization of the Department of Justice will end. America must have one tier of justice for all.”But since her confirmation on February 4, Attorney General Pam Bondi has done exactly the opposite, weaponizing the DOJ against Trump’s political enemies and withdrawing criminal investigations of his allies. The tone was set on her first full day, when she fired off an all-staff memo threatening to fire anyone who raised ethical or legal objections to advancing frivolous arguments in court.

President Donald Trump is lashing out at his own supporters as he tries to clamp down on criticism over his administration’s handling of much-hyped records in the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation, which Trump now calls a “Hoax.”“Their new SCAM is what we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my PAST supporters have bought into this “bull——,” hook, line, and sinker,” Trump wrote Wednesday on his Truth Social site, using an expletive in his post. “They haven’t learned their lesson, and probably never will, even after being conned by the Lunatic Left for 8 long years.”
“Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore! Thank you for your attention to this matter,” he went on.

Third Largest Airport In Iraq Reopens
Mosul International Airport, which was previously destroyed by ISIS terrorists, is the third most important airport in Iraq, following Baghdad International Airport and Basra International Airport. The airport became a key military site after it was overrun by the terrorist organization ISIS in June 2014. They held it until the Iraqi army took it back on February 23, 2017.
Following its liberation, Mosul International Airport underwent renovations. By November 2019, demining activities were finished, and plans for a thorough reconstruction were initiated.

Rayhunter in Canada
I am trying to get rayhunter, but I am confused about a few things. What kind of hardware may be used? The Orbic RC400L advertises itself as being for Verizon network only, which I am not going to use. Does the rayhunter software allow it to work on arbitrary networks?
Furthermore, I don't see a good way to acquire such a device. They aren't sold locally as far as I can tell. On amazon they are available, though expensive. However, that would mean losing any form of privacy. I don't need it to be completely anonymous—someone looking at the location could probably see home and work easily enough—but better than amazon would be much preferred.
Are there any alternate devices that are known to work well in Canada? I will be keeping the device powered off most of the time anyways, (so as to hide my location) but it must be reliable when I need it.
EDIT: eSIM support is a plus, but not required

Stellantis abandons hydrogen fuel cell development
To paraphrase Mean Girls, "stop trying to make hydrogen happen."For some years now, detractors of battery electric vehicles have held up hydrogen as a clean fuel panacea. That sometimes refers to hydrogen combustion engines, but more often, it's hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles, or FCEVs. Both promise motoring with only water emitted from the vehicles' exhausts. It's just that hydrogen actually kinda sucks as a fuel, and automaker Stellantis announced today that it is ending the development of its light-, medium- and heavy-duty FCEVs, which were meant to go into production later this year.
Hydrogen's main selling point is that it's faster to fill a tank with the stuff than it is to recharge a lithium-ion battery. So it's a seductive alternative that suggests a driver can keep all the convenience of their gasoline engine with none of the climate change-causing side effects.
But in reality, that's pretty far from true.

- Development stuff as I am a developer
- I will install LibreNMS soon and PiHole
Network:
- UniFi Security Gateway (changing to a Dream Machine Pro)
- UniFi AC LR
- UniFi AC Pro
- Ubiquiti Edgeswitch 8P
- Rasperry Pi running UniFi controller
- 1 dumb switch due to one port not working on the router and I didn't have any managed available
- Cisco 3750
- No VLAN due to that one dumb switch, fixing it soon
Rack cost: 20 security cameras and 2 hours of my time
Issues:
- Hard drives on one of the servers are a bit sketchy so that server is currently offline until I get new ones (they also cause the fans to go to 78%)
- Need to mount the AP, had a mount but due to bad placement of stuff it got warm air and my 3d printed one didn't like it and became soft and warped......
Future moves:
- Getting some more switches soon
- Hopefully getting another server soon
- Might be going from a 500/500 line with 1 IPv4 to a 1000/1000 with 2 IPv4 if I can, changing ISP so I can get IPv6
- Fiber going straight into router
- More security cameras
- Setting up Home Assistant and Zigbee
- Mounting my AP to the roof again
So this is my small rack, getting more stuff soon I hope
