Shor’s Algorithm Breaks 5-bit Elliptic Curve Key on 133-Qubit Quantum Computer

This experiment breaks a 5-bit elliptic curve cryptographic key using a Shor-style quantum attack. Executed on IBM's 133-qubit ibm_torino with Qiskit Runtime 2.0, a 15-qubit circuit, comprised of 10 logical qubits and 5 ancilla, interferes over an order-32 elliptic curve subgroup to extract the secret scalar k from the public key relation Q = kP, without ever encoding k directly into the oracle. From 16,384 shots, the quantum interference reveals a diagonal ridge in the 32 x 32 QFT outcome space. The quantum circuit, over 67,000 layers deep, produced valid interference patterns despite extreme circuit depth, and classical post-processing revealed k = 7 in the top 100 invertible (a, b) results. All code, circuits, and raw data are publicly available for replication.

Two weeks after Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot praised Adolf Hitler, suggested Jews control Hollywood, and spewed Holocaust denial, the billionaire entrepreneur announced plans to release a version for children.
It’s called “Baby Grok.”
“We’re going to make Baby Grok @xAI, an app dedicated to kid-friendly content,” Musk posted Saturday night on X, the platform he owns. By Sunday afternoon, the tweet had racked up more than 17 million views.
At the moment, Grok is mainly used on X, where users must be at least 13 years old.
It’s a head-spinning move for the world’s richest person, who earlier this month was under fire for allowing his company’s AI system to generate Holocaust denialism and white nationalist talking points.
Musk’s startup, xAI, released the latest version of Grok on July 9. The update — dubbed Grok 4 — was designed to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini. Instead, it became the latest flashpoint in the ongoing struggle to put guardrails on generative AI.
Musk’s AI responded to user prompts with far-right tropes. When asked about Jews, Grok claimed they promote hatred toward white people. It echoed neo-Nazi rhetoric. It called for imprisoning Jews in camps. Other answers suggested the Holocaust may have been exaggerated. Some responses have since been deleted, but many remain archived online.
The chatbot’s responses didn’t emerge in a vacuum.
Grok is trained on a wide swath of online content — including posts from X — and like many generative AI systems, it mimics patterns in that data. Grok is the latest in a long line of machines built to “understand” humans — and perhaps the most willing to echo their ugliest impulses.
Just days after Grok’s stream of antisemitic posts, xAI signed a deal with the Department of Defense, worth up to $200 million, to provide the technology to the U.S. military. The company has not publicly stated whether the children’s version will be trained separately or filtered differently from Grok 4.
Musk has faced repeated criticism for amplifying antisemitic content on X, including a post agreeing with the “Great Replacement” theory, a baseless claim that Jews conspire to replace whites in the West.
In January, he posted Holocaust-themed jokes after appearing to perform a Nazi-style salute at an inaugural rally for President Donald Trump. Last year, he visited Auschwitz with right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro and suggested that social media might have helped prevent the Holocaust.
Now, Musk is touting Baby Grok — even as experts warn the industry isn’t ready for such a product. Generative AI models are notoriously difficult to moderate, and child safety advocates have flagged concerns about disinformation, bias and exposure to harmful content.
The announcement comes amid growing concern about the use of generative AI with minors. No federal guidelines currently exist for how child-targeted AI tools should be trained, moderated, or deployed — leaving companies to set their own rules, often without transparency.

Spanish public broadcaster RTVE is blocking podcasts of its national radio station, RNE, from some third party podcast apps.But unusually, the company still publishes open RSS feeds for all its shows - so shows appear in every podcast app that uses them. The broadcaster has chosen to deliberately block specific podcast apps from downloading the audio.
One such podcast app that RNE is blocking is AntennaPod, a free podcast app on Android. It’s one of the most popular apps on Android - and in Spain, 78.8% of Spanish mobile phone users use Android mobile phones.
Users have discovered that RNE is specifically blocking AntennaPod, based on the app’s user-agent, which is correctly set for every download. It’s unclear why: the app contains no advertising, and is open-source. It’s free to download, and acts in accordance with the unwritten contract between podcast publishers and apps.
“We will review the case of AntennaPod,” said J. Javier Hernández Bravo from RTVE, in an email to Podnews, after we asked for comment. He told us: “RNE Audio continues to publish open RSS feeds, and at the same time, it has decided to block some third-party podcast applications from downloading audio. Many of those platforms were making money from our content.”
There are no podcast platforms that Podnews is aware of which charge for access to open RSS feeds. (We’re always grateful to hear of any). Some podcast apps contain display advertising, but this is not the case for AntennaPod.

RNE had just told us that some companies were “making money” of RNE’s content - but then gives three examples of those that do. Spotify makes money off podcast content by aggressively marketing premium upgrades to its music app, and in some cases playing audio advertising before and after episode audio. YouTube puts advertising in front of podcast content, and markets a premium version. And even Apple Podcasts makes money off podcast content by exclusively being available as an app on iPhones and Macs, which only Apple sells.

Bernie is basically a modern day version of Bernstein. Though a century apart, both peddle reformism as a political pacifier, diverting energy from the radical systemic change required to dismantle capitalism. Their approaches, while superficially progressive, function as ideological traps, diverting energy from serious movements necessary to upend capitalism.
Bernstein was a leading figure in Germany’s SPD, and he famously rejected Marxist revolutionary praxis in favor of evolutionary socialism. He argued capitalism could be gradually reformed into socialism through parliamentary means, dismissing the inevitability of class conflict. He neutralized the SPD’s revolutionary potential, channeling working-class demands into compromises like wage increases or limited welfare programs that left capitalist hierarchies intact. As Rosa Luxemburg warned in Reform or Revolution, Bernstein’s strategy reduced socialism to a “mild appendage” of liberalism, sapping the working class of its transformative agency.
Likewise, the political project that Bernie pursued mirrors Bernstein’s trajectory. While Sanders critiques inequality and corporate power, his platform centers on social democratic reforms, such as Medicare for All, tuition-free college, a $15 minimum wage, that treat symptoms instead of root causes. By framing electoral victory as the primary objective, Sanders diverted a what could have been a millions strong grassroots movement into the Democratic Party, an institution structurally committed to maintaining capitalism. His campaigns absorbed activist energy into phone banking and voter outreach, rather than building durable, extra-parliamentary power such as workplace organizations, tenant unions, and so on.
When Sanders conceded to Hillary Clinton and later Joe Biden, his base dissolved into disillusionment or shifted focus to lesser-evilism. Without autonomous structures to sustain pressure, the movement’s momentum evaporated similarly to how the SPD was integrated into Weimar Germany’s capitalist state. However, even if his agenda were enacted, it would exist within a neoliberal framework. Much like FDR’s New Deal coexisted with Jim Crow, imperial plunder, and union busting. Reforms within the system are always contingent on their utility to capital, and their purpose is demobilize the workers.
A meaningful challenge to capitalism requires a long-term strategy that combines direct action, mass education, and dual power structures. Imagine if Sanders had urged supporters to unionize workplaces, organize rent strikes, and create community mutual aid networks alongside electoral engagement. Movements like MAS in Bolivia, show how grassroots power can pressure institutions while cultivating revolutionary consciousness. Instead, his campaign became a referendum on his candidacy, leaving his followers adrift after his defeat.
Bernstein and Sanders, despite their intentions, exemplify the dead end of reformism. Their projects mistake tactical concessions for strategic victory, ignoring capitalism’s relentless drive to commodify and co-opt. In the end, the reformist approach ends up midwifing full blown fascism. By channeling energy into parliamentary politics, the SPD deprioritized mass mobilization. Unions and workers were encouraged to seek concessions rather than challenge capitalist power structures. This eroded class consciousness and left the working class unprepared to confront the nazi threat.
When the nazis gained momentum, the SPD clung to legalistic strategies, refusing to support strikes or armed resistance against Hitler. Their faith in bourgeois democracy blinded them to the existential threat of fascism, which exploited economic despair and nationalist resentment. In the end, SPD famously allied with the nazis against the communists.
The “progressive” wing of the Democratic Party is following in the footsteps of the SPD’s reformist trajectory. While advocating for policies like Medicare for All or climate action, it operates within capitalist constraints, undermining radical change and inadvertently fueling right-wing extremism. The Democrats absorb grassroots energy into electoral campaigns while their reliance on corporate donors ensures watered-down policies that fuel disillusionment.
The SPD’s reformism actively enabled fascism by disorganizing the working class and legitimizing capitalist violence. Similarly, the Democratic Party’s commitment to pragmatic incrementalism sustains a system that breeds reactionary backlash. Trump is a direct product of these policies. We’re just watching history on repeat here.

mullvad browser as daily driver?
I've been using Librewolf for more than an year now, and Im using Mullvad Browser (MB) only for log into my e-mail and stuff more personal like that. Since Mullvad gives some very good filters about privacy, i'm using MB for these purposes.
However, i been thinking if i should use Mullvad Browser as my main daily driver browser. However, i need to use a dark mode/reader, since i like to have eyes and for me is super uncomfortable not using a dark mode.
I'm using the dark reader on librewolf, and i know this is make me more finger printable , but i cannot use a browser without a dark mode.
My question is if, either with a dark mode/reader on mullvad browser, this is better than librewolf in terms of privacy and security. Mullvad is more quick than librewolf in update terms , for which i search it. And other thing i know i can do, is create multiple profiles on mullvad and librewolf, to compartmentalize the things i visit / search... (for example, one profile only to check my emails, one for normal browsing, and so on.... )
and btw , on ubuntu, which is the better way in terms of security and privacy, to install the mullvad browser? via .deb ? snap? flatpak?

Counter Proposal for Privacy Flag
I love Charger8232's idea of a Privacy Flag. However, I don't love the design they proposed. In their post, I explain my disagreements.
As a form of vexillographical discussion, I would like to propose another design as the flag under which we anonymously toil in secret (I wish).
First off, nods to Charger8232's design - 1400x900 dimensions, and use of EU's Dark Power Blue (#003399) color. Love it.
Where we differ:
Designs
A shield, representing how we must actively guard our privacy. A lock, obviously, to show we want security with our privacy, and a dove showing that we just want to be left the F alone and peacefully not be subject to a mass surveillance state. We're not trying to be sketchy or do illegal stuff, we just want to be peacefully left the F alone.
Colors
Again, same use of Dark Power Blue, representing freedom and a nod to the GDPR. White representing peace. Black representing how I don't want people to see me. Color of field: Redacted.

MAGA Going to Israel for Propaganda Training
The Israel foreign ministry will spend $86,000 to finance a tour of Israel for 16 Americans to get them to use their vast online influence to craft more positive images of a nation openly engaged in genocide.
The effort is being made as Israel reacts to a significant turn in public opinion against it, especially by Western youth. Tel Aviv realizes its usual methods of propaganda — and apparently its own inhouse troll army — are no longer working as they once did.
It is paying an organization called Israel365 to organize the first American tour because it is in a “unique position to convey a pro-Israel stance that aligns entirely with the MAGA and America First agenda.”
Israel365’s website says the group “stands unapologetically for the Jewish people’s God-given right to the entire Land of Israel,” calls the two-state solution a “delusion,” and says it’s defending “Western civilization against threats from both Progressive Left extremism and global jihad.”

'Japanese First' party emerges as election force with tough immigration talk
TOKYO, July 21 (Reuters) - The fringe far-right Sanseito party emerged as one of the biggest winners in Japan's upper house election on Sunday, gaining support with warnings of a "silent invasion" of immigrants, and pledges for tax cuts and welfare spending.
Birthed on YouTube during the COVID-19 pandemic spreading conspiracy theories about vaccinations and a cabal of global elites, the party broke into mainstream politics with its "Japanese First" campaign.
The party won 14 seats adding to the single lawmaker it secured in the 248-seat chamber three years ago. It has only three seats in the more powerful lower house.
"The phrase Japanese First was meant to express rebuilding Japanese people's livelihoods by resisting globalism. I am not saying that we should completely ban foreigners or that every foreigner should get out of Japan," Sohei Kamiya, the party's 47-year-old leader, said in an interview with local broadcaster Nippon Television after the election.

Russian strikes hit Kyiv metro where hundreds were sheltering
Russia launched a wave of drones and missiles at Ukraine in an overnight attack on Monday, killing at least one person in Kyiv and hitting a metro station where hundreds of people were sheltering.

‘Tense calm’ returns to Syria’s Sweida province after week of deadly violence
The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said Sweida had been experiencing “a cautious calm since the early hours of Sunday morning”, but warned of “the deterioration of the humanitarian situation” including a severe shortage of basic medical supplies.
The SOHR reported on Sunday that more than 1,000 people had been killed in armed clashes, bombardment, extrajudicial executions and Israeli airstrikes since the violence in Sweida province began a week ago. The United Nations migration agency said the number of people displaced by the violence had risen to more than 128,000.

Ever since a nasty concussion stopped me playing rugby when I was 18, I struggled to exercise regularly. I tried plenty of workouts, dabbling in everything from CrossFit to Zumba. While some were more enjoyable than others, I hadn’t found a way to keep a consistent, disciplined regime without it feeling like a chore. I’m 28 now and work from home. My commute from bed to desk is 15 steps. Given the health risks of sedentary lifestyles, I had tried just about everything to break my lazy rut, and then something worked: watching television.
Well, OK, not just watching television like a modern Jim Royle, who reached Olympic levels in The Royle Family, but I imposed a rule: if I want to watch TV, I have to do so while sitting on my exercise bike (the one cardio exercise I can tolerate). The result? I’ve been cycling roughly six hours a week for months now. Generally, I watch a lot of sports: if there’s football, rugby, tennis, boxing, NFL or cricket on, I’ll watch it. So invariably through the year I find there’s roughly two hours of sport on three times a week I want to watch. By combining this with exercise, I find I am able to do so without feeling guilty.
Most of the sports I watch have intervals, so I tend to cycle moderately during the action and then start to pedal my way quickly through another Jamie Carragher tirade or some inane ad breaks. I usually burn about 500 calories during a two-hour session. Sometimes my drink of choice while I cycle might even be a non-alcoholic beer. Bliss.

Israeli forces on Saturday opened fire on Palestinians seeking food aid in the besieged Gaza Strip, killing more than 30 people as the manufactured hunger emergency in the enclave intensifies.
The Associated Press reported that the massacre "occurred near hubs operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation," which the United Nations and aid organizations have described as death traps.

Despite Board Capitulation, NEA Teachers Still Reject Anti-Defamation League
In a gut punch to the base, National Education Association leaders lickety-split dismissed a motion passed by a majority of the NEA’s 7,000 delegates not to partner with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for curriculum or professional development.
In a possible violation of the union’s Standing Rules, evidence suggests the leadership failed to solicit written rebuttals and oral presentations from dissenting state and local affiliate presidents. Instead, the Board of Directors seemingly rubber-stamped the NEA Executive Committee recommendation to not implement New Business Motion (NBI) (39), passed by the Representative Assembly (RA) on July 5th in Portland, Oregon.
All it took were a few hundred emails from the Israel lobby and an announcement from ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt—the guy who compared a keffiyeh to a Swastika—that he personally spoke to union President Becky Pringle to urge abandonment of the motion.
Those who wonder whether the Board’s decision will backfire need only read the full ADL statement, which suggests there will be more demands coming down the pike. In a finger-waving scold, the ADL statement adds that the NEA “must redouble efforts to ensure that Jewish educators are not isolated and subjected to antisemitism in their unions and that students are not subjected to it in the classroom.”

Buongiorno cari lettori! Oggi voglio parlavi di questa nuova collaborazione con Aboca editore. Mi sono avvicinata ai libri di Aboca da qualche anno e ora ho avuto il piacere di approfondire i loro testi grazie a questo libro che mi hanno gentilmente mandato dopo il salone del libro. Prima di tutto ringrazio la casa editrice e la responsabile ufficio stampa Elisa per la fiducia che hanno avuto nei miei confronti e in secondo luogo il blog che mi ha permesso di raggiungere notevoli risultati ed avere l’accredito.
Iniziamo però questo racconto attraverso il libro Medichesse e di che cos’è per l’autrice e per me il dono della cura!

Erika Maderna, laureata in Etruscologia e Archeologia Italica presso l’Università degli Studi di Pavia, si è stabilita anni fa nella Maremma toscana, spinta dal richiamo della terra degli Etruschi. Vive a Grosseto, dove insegna, scrive articoli, traduzioni e saggi di cultura e archeologia classica. Per Aboca Edizioni ha scritto: Aromi sacri, fragranze profane. Donne per le donne: quando la cura diventa dono
Donne, questo il grande tema del libro! Attraverso le pagine del saggio riusciamo ad accogliere ed apprezzare ruoli particolari del mondo femminile. L’autrice ripercorre il mondo della medicina e della cura come dono negli anni della storia dell’esistenza umana partendo dall’antichità fino al XVII secolo.
Un elemento che mi ha colpita particolarmente è la prefazione della Dottoressa Rita Pagiotti docente di botanica della prestigiosa Università di Perugia. Ho trovato interessante l’apertura mentale della dottoressa che anzichè additare come “pazze” queste donne le ammirava. Non è facile trovare qualcuno che possa avere questa opinione dal mondo accademico e ne sono rimasta piacevolmente stupita!
Altro aspetto molto interessante, dal mio punto di vista, è la bibliografia particolareggiata e che permette al lettore di approfondire ogni aspetto del libro tramite altri saggi altrettanto accattivanti.
E’ visibile fin dalle prime pagine la profonda ricerca della Dottoressa Maderna e della sua passione per questi temi.
L’impalcatura e l’estetica del libro
Dal punto di vista della struttura del libro, troviamo sicuramente un font e interlinea agevole che permette al lettore di immergersi senza difficoltà nel testo.
Il libro è arricchito da elementi estetici come foto e tavole di botanica che rendono il testo ancora più interessante da osservare. Un elemento che apprezzo molto è quando il libro diventa oggetto estetico e in questo caso la casa editrice è riuscita a farlo nel modo migliore.
Tra queste foto troviamo anche ricette antiche di Metrodora e Trotula, due delle più importanti medichesse di qiesto saggio.
La copertina è notevolmente curata, di buona fattura e che vale tutti i soldi del testo.
Il dono della cura: dentro e fuori!
Affrontare questo libro è sicuramente un momento di cura, di accettazione e di riflessione. Già dalle mie parole iniziali avrete capito che in generale ho amato questo testo ma approfondiamo meglio il perchè.
La lettura è molto rapida ad avvincente nonostante si tratti di un saggio e a prima vista possa risultare “pesante” o un ostacolo per chi non è avvezzo a questo mondo.
Ad esempio nel primo capitolo si narra di come le dee guaritrici e taumaturghe sono state declassate a maghe, streghe e fattucchiere e nel migliore dei casi diventate erboriste. Viene raccontato di come la loro conoscenza antica sia stata portata avanti dalle donne per via oracolare e nascosta, tramandata di madre in figlia e di come la medicina degli uomini sia sempre stata vista come “migliore” a discapito di quella delle donne che erano relegate a professioni come ostetriche o cosmetologhe.
Nello stesso capitolo vengono citate a esempio Igiea e Panacea, figlie di Esculapio, che curavano e guarivano.
Riassumendo, ed andando alle conclusioni, ritengo che sia un testo che tutti gli appassionati delle erbe e della storia della medicina femminile e alternativa debbano leggerlo.
La scrittrice permette di rendere di facile lettura argomenti storici, magari anche ostici, ed innamorarsi di ogni singolo personaggio citato.
Non vedo l’ora di leggere altro di questa autrice, il mio voto complessivo del libro non può che essere di 5 stelle su 5!
