StPauli.social – eine Mastodon Instanz für St. Paulianer_innen
Ich betreibe seit einiger Zeit eine eigene Instanz des beliebten Twitter-Ersatzes Mastodon. Derzeit haben wir 45 Mitglieder.
Einstieg ins Fediverse: wem folge ich, wie funktioniert Mastodon?
Im Grunde funktioniert Mastodon (und jede andere Software im Fediverse) wie Twitter, Instagram oder Facebook – nur ohne Algorithmus, der Inhalte filtert oder dir Inhalte vorschlägt. Der Algorithmus bist Du – und das kann den Anfang ein wenig schwierig machen.
Ich habe dir ein Starter Pack für das Thema FCSP erstellt (ohne Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit) – diesen Accounts kannst du sofort folgen – und in deiner Timeline ist schonmal was los.
Hashtags: Themen im Fediverse organisieren sich wie im guten alten Twitter über Hashtags. Einem Hashtag kannst du bei Mastodon ganz einfach folgen und so Accounts finden, die zu deinen Interessen passen:

Followgraph: Hast du erste Accounts gefunden, die dich interessieren, dann kannst du hier nachschauen, wem diese Accounts noch so folgen – eine weitere Inspiration.

A multicultural child in an English speaking country would be said to be a native speaker of English regardless of what their parents’ native languages are. “Mother tongue” does exist as a phrase, but people don’t seem to use it this way. After a child has lived in Norway for seven years, the right to educational support in their first language falls away, which suggests that, at least from a resources point of view, they are considered as proficient as any other kid in school by then. (Often they are not.)

People normally think “if pupils are given space to speak another language in the classroom, that would harm their Dutch”. But research shows that is not the case, as long as it is done cleverly. And teachers do not need to master these languages themselves in order to support pupils effectively.
Practical examples include giving pupils a book to read at home in their family language after it has been studied in Dutch at school. Reading it with their parents helps children understand the text better and make the translation into Dutch more explicit.
Multilingualism can also be encouraged through classroom attitudes.
There is no special lesson or method. It is a mindset. You can show that new languages are not scary and that no language is better than another. Ask pupils to teach you a few words in their language.
Such an approach helps create an atmosphere where children are not laughed at for unfamiliar sounds or worried that classmates are gossiping in other languages.
The council also includes regional languages such as Frisian and Limburgish in its definition of multilingualism.
For now, schools decide for themselves whether to allow pupils to use other languages in class, which can lead to different rules between teachers.
Children should not be held back from speaking their home language as long as they also have opportunities to learn Dutch. The earlier children encounter other cultures and languages, the more normal it becomes. That is an added value.
