Yes, bit it's a little unfair to colorblind people.
What if the amount of visibility was also correlated to the amount of length of the dashes on the bottom colored line? Like public is unbroken line, unlisted is line with wide dashes, private is line with minus-length dashes, direct is dotted line
Yes, that will be improved. The second one is the default visibility for the quote policy. This version is not yet released.
I hope you have implemented this design feature with accessibility in mind.

@mayintoronto I'm using firefox sob

Not gonna lie, Firefox Sob™ sounds like a promising new product line.
All our web syndication feeds will be lost in time… like tears… in the rain.
@pmonks The last time I checked out Chrome it still had compatibility issues with Wayland so I assume a Chrome derivative like Vivaldi will have those issues also. I can't tell 🙁 🙁
My preferred alternative is "Servo, when it is finished"
as a heavy Vivaldi user I can't confirm those Wayland compatibility issues
can't share the whole screen, but can share window, which is what videocalling people should be doing anyway
@funnymonkey People ask me what the good web browser is now and the only thing I can think to say is "set up a recurring donation to the Servo project and maybe someday you will have one" but that seems like a deeply unsatisfying reply

just need to stay on top of updates manually though, since there is no way for the browser to ping the mothership for updates.
@Darkasvim That could happen, another two possibilities without google money are
- Firefox will drop the browser and go exclusively AI because their ideologically-captured board believes that's the thing that makes money in 2025
- Firefox goes out of business completely.
I've seen their weird new behavior (working with ad companies, working with AI) widely surmised to be them trying to find something they can spin into a post-Google revenue stream.

As long they DON'T become too dependent on that support, risking another Mozilla-Google situation, specially if the bubble bursts.
I'm fine with AI parasites giving something back without asking much in return.
Literally Copilot. Not even AI in general, but the single *last* AI product I would ever be OK with seeing in Firefox.
God, I wish there was a second browser.
Is Mullvad browser a viable option?
It is the Tor browser minus the Tor network, intended to be used with a "normal" VPN instead.
So something Firefox based, privacy minded, and supported.
?
You know that Internet will die and Webpages because only Chat Bots are there in future.
You are right its not. Like books. But if we can not carry our infra of computing digital with us to the next level. It will be hard to bootstrap in future.
Yes but we can only occupied streets back if cars will be disruped by self drive or individual fly mobility gear. Cars are horses with more wast of space and energy.
Edit, but about Firefox. Yes but it was the same with internet, video, text sound html... and now A.I. Chatbots become computers, books, brain interfaces and shit - it went to fast. It will replace our evolution self and thoughts like privecy and interact with the world. An why? Because WE are only layer 2 and above..

Decentralization, Bluesky, Blah Blah Blah...
So plenty of pieces this week pushing back on Fedi criticism of #Bluesky's centralization. 'Who cares? People on Bluesky like it. Booooring. Typical Mastodon scold culture. Why does it matter?'
So, why does it matter? Let's get into it.
Last night Computer Scientist Kirus @BlueCircuitDragon posted a fascinating thread:
mas.to/@BlueCircuitDragon/1151…
"They are essentially setting up a massive cognitohazard zone to push propaganda."
Huh? 🤔
reshared this
Social Media Channel, [AF]2050, JonChevreau, Mastodon Migration e Jure Repinc reshared this.
OK, that's a lot. Let's back up a bit.
Social media platforms are influence engines. All of them are. The state of media today is that most communication is not simply to inform, but to influence others to behave and take desired actions. The deal with social media platforms is that they provide technology to enable these communications, but most are not neutral.
And, this is important, the monetary valuation of a platform is directly related to the degree of outsized influence it wields.
2/
JonChevreau reshared this.
So, back to Kirus' thread. It's pretty technical, but the criticism basically boils down to his analysis that they are herding users into "clusters" where they are "close" to each other, and in particular, to specific users (influencers) promoted by their algorithm. This methodology is superchanged by Bluesky Starter Packs which provide ready made clusters.
This network topology is ripe for wielding influence because the network operator has control over what is algorithmically promoted.
3/
The critical thing here is that platform architecture itself is the problem. It doesn't particularly matter whether the influence being asserted by the operator is good, evil or benign. This can change, as we saw when Musk bought Twitter. What matters is that the platform is designed to enable the operator to assert maximal influence, and it does so by clustering users and fostering algorithmic "virality".
4/
Quoting Kirus: "They're creating a system where everyone orbits nodes with a high amount of influence."
Contrast this with Mastodon. "Bad ideas spread like viruses. It's called memetics. #Mastodon is too open, and the people aren't clustered. Bluesky is making sure you're clustered together." And again, once clustered, vulnerable to algorithmic manipulation.
5/
So, now back to why decentralization matters. Bluesky CEO Jay Graber expressed it well in her "No Caesars" charm offensive. If #Bluesky were to become evil, you can fork off. That is, go to another node in the network. Well, you can't because there is no place to go. But, more importantly, as a Bluesky user you are ensconced in a sophisticated influence engine. You are along for the ride, and have no perspective on your experience versus that of other users of the network on other nodes.
6/
In closing, it should be said that Bluesky is not AT Protocol. Clustering and algorithmic virality are characteristics of platforms not protocols. There are other fledgling platforms on AT Protocol, most notably Blacksky, which do not employ the same influence concentrating techniques, but they are miniscule by comparison to the Bluesky corporate platform.
7/

## Deep Search
By activating Fetch also n+1, the plugin will fetch the selected handles network and also the network of the handles found.
/!\ Keep in mind that this can be very long as some users has a long list of followers or follows. /!\
What do you mean exactly when you write algorithm?
I'm not aware of an algorithm on Bluesky that makes posts go viral due to the software by itself promoting particular posts.
It works much like in the Fediverse: I only get to see posts and boosts by those I follow – and only if I happen to come across it in the time window I am browsing my feed, say, posts from the last 2 hours. If they posted or boosted 3 hours ago, I won't see it.
And the software will not recommend the post to me out of its own accord.
Their post is a dead fish if they posted outside my scrolling window.
Starter packs have been around on Bluesky forever. It's a list of users curated by another user. You can serial-follow all listed entries by a single click.
I made use of several Starter Packs curated by climate scientists.
A remarkable circumstance on Bluesky that prevents virility: the users there do not boost what they find interesting. They also don't do top level posts but reduce their activity to writing replies.
I think, that's in part because the Twix algorithm had taught them that top level postings are for nought anyway – due to the Twix algorithm that hides no-name posts from others based on whatever behavioural statistics.
On Bluesky, the not-boosting "culture" creates the feedback loop: it discourages users from doing a top level post because once outside the scrolling time window of their followers, top level posts are dead fish and the software won't ever revive them – because there is no recommendation algorithm as in "based on your interaction with post x, I offer you post y because it has some of the same keywords" or somesuch.
All this works against posts going viral. Which is good.
Users drive the clustering around big accounts because they reduce themselves to replies-only – if they interact at all.
But the software doesn't show me a post by an influencer account like Stefan Rahmstorf just because it has 20 replies or 40 likes, like it was on Twix.
I get to see Rahmstorfs posting because he wrote it in my scrolling time window – or because someone I follow boosted (fat chance..) or replied to it in my scrolling time window.
I would say, clustering is driven by users who were educated on Twix algorithms and see no further use in Bluesky other than passively leafing through a glossy paper magazine. The Bluesky users don't use Bluesky as their own social networking platform.
The passivity of users make Bluesky a platform for influencers.
Sorry for the long replies. I was developing my thoughts during writing. 🖖🏽
Nach welchen Gesichtspunkten werden in den Starter Kits fertige Cluster von BlueSky zusammengestellt?
Und mit welchen anderen Methoden werden BlueSky User in Cluster "getrieben"?
.
According to which criteria are BlueSky's ready-to-use clusters put together in the starter kits?
And what other methods are used to "drive" BlueSky users into clusters?
What is really interesting about Kirus' post is a window into the structural techniques these platforms use to construct sophisticated influence operations, and the application of graph theory to analyze it. They have certainly come a long way from the early days of Facebook and Cambridge Analytical, but the propaganda objectives are the same.
Here is what Bluesky says about their "Discover" feed:
"Discover is customized for what you like to see, while still giving you a view into what’s trending in the network. The initial version of Discover mixes in a global view of what’s trending in the network with posts from accounts you follow and posts from accounts near your social graph... Our approach to making an algorithmic feed isn’t new..."
bsky.social/about/blog/7-27-20…
Algorithmic Choice with Custom Feeds - Bluesky
Our implementation of algorithmic choice lets users customize one of the most important parts of their social media experience: their feed.Bluesky
Seems like even from what they admit about Discover it is both selecting posts "trending: across the network and picking things "near your social graph" and the methodology is opaque. Might be misunderstanding something here, but isn't this basically what you were discussing? Yes, they give lip service to "customization" aka tweaking the model, but it is still a mysterious algorithm making selections for you.
Note that this may mean that all Bluesky user personal data that has been given Statsig to perform their analytics service has now been transferred to OpenAI
"Business Transfers – We may share certain information in connection with or during negotiations or closing of any merger, sale of company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company."
Seems like you are missing the point anlomedad. The discussion is not about how you use Bluesky. It is about how Bluesky users end up clustered and subject to influence. The determination is based not on your feelings, but on analysis of actual user distribution.
Not saying whether your responses are deliberate astroturf, or reflexive off topic arguementative cherry picking. Either way they distract from the subject.
That does not seem to be an accurate characterization of the critique.
@BlueCircuitDragon
Ah, so now it's only about the Bluesky Feed named "Discover"?
Aside from Bluesky-system feeds, I have pinned 25 feeds curated by other users, you know, archaeology, marine science, astronomy, stuff that interests me and where I can interact with likeminded users. No need to click on "Discover". When I did click Discover once or twice, it was filled with US accounts I had never heard of, blubbering on about US stuff. I'm from Europe myself and see nothing desirable about US culture, so wasn't keen on clicking Discover more often.
That has changed indeed: Now, Discover shows posts from accounts I follow plus some which might originate from Feeds I have pinned, plus foreign posts with an emphasis on photos, it seems, of which only about half have ALTtexts – which makes me smile... imagining the stubborn dudes who programmed the Discover feed, not being aware of the company's Inclusion Awareness at all.
Ah well.
All of Twix was like the Discover feed, and much worse. But 99.9999% of Bluesky is not like the Discover feed.
Can you please publish your work?
Its mainly tools as far as I can see, but your expertise is essential.
