I just hope my user.js file still holds up with each new Mozilla AI feature .

This must be how Windows 11 users feel like.

in reply to jbz

I sure hope this can bring #librewolf to new and sustainable heights, while removing/disabling these pointless new features.

Had Vivaldi been built on a competing open source browser engine than Chromium, I might have gone that way already. We need more sustainable browser engines than just Chrome/Chromium, especially now with the direction Mozilla is taking Firefox. And Chrome/Chromium deserves a solid competition to avoid crashing into the IE browser mess 20+ years ago.

So for now, I hope Librewolf can fill the gap, at least in the short-/midterms perspective.

The image shows a square marble plaque affixed to a weathered stone wall. The plaque is light gray with four rusted bolts securing it to the wall, one at each corner. The surface of the plaque is slightly worn, with some discoloration and minor scratches. The text on the plaque is in Latin, reading: "QUID SUPERTIT HOMO CUIUS CONCEPTIO CUPRA NASCI POENA ULIA DEABO NECESSITAT MON A D 1793." Below the text, there is a small white label with the text "Info Lapidem Marmorea" and a QR code. The wall behind the plaque is beige with patches of discoloration and some areas where the plaster has chipped away, revealing the underlying stone.

Upcoming arms fair shows UK’s ‘peak complicity in genocide’

by Willem Moore

On 9 September, the arms industry will gather in the UK for the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) arms fair. DSEI generates controversy and protest every year; this year that controversy is focussed on links to Israel and its genocide of the Palestinian people. While the UK government has barred an official delegation from Israel, Israeli weapons companies will still attend. Now, Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) has argued this exception represents “peak complicity in genocide”, with 51 Israeli companies set to attend the event.

Contentious attendance at DSEI

CAAT note that the 51 Israeli companies set to attend the event include “Elbit Systems, Rafael and Israel Aerospace”. These companies are based in Israel, but they also maintain UK sites in some instances, particularly Elbit Systems. Before our current Labour government proscribed it as a terrorist organisation, Palestine Action conducted a protracted campaign of direct action against Elbit Systems, and several companies cut ties with the arms manufacturer during this period (including a landlord of one of its UK sites). Some speculated that Palestine Action may also have influenced the Ministry of Defence (MoD) overlooking Elbit for a £2.1bn contract.

This Company Turns Dashcams into ‘Virtual CCTV Cameras.’ Then Hackers Got In

A hacker has broken into Nexar, a popular dashcam company that pitches its users’ dashcams as “virtual CCTV cameras” around the world that other people can buy images from, and accessed a database of terabytes of video recordings taken from cameras in drivers’ cars. The videos obtained by the hacker and shared with 404 Media capture people clearly unaware that a third party may be watching or listening in. A parent in a car soothing a baby. A man whistling along to the radio. Another person on a Facetime call. One appears to show a driver heading towards the entrance of the CIA’s headquarters. Other images, which are publicly available in a map that Nexar publishes online, show drivers around sensitive Department of Defense locations.

The hacker also found a list of companies and agencies that may have interacted with Nexar’s data business, which sells access to blurred images captured by the cameras and other related data. This can include monitoring the same location captured by Nexar’s cameras over time, and lets clients “explore the physical world and gain insights like never before,” and use its virtual CCTV cameras “to monitor specific points of interest,” according to Nexar’s website.

#DonaldTrump has repeatedly asserted that crime in #WashingtonDC is "out of control," using this claim to justify deploying the National Guard and federal intervention. He pointed to 2023 as a year of record homicides and carjackings, framing the city as unsafe.

However, official data from DC’s Metropolitan Police and the FBI tell a different story. Violent crime in 2024 reached its lowest level in 30 years, with homicides dropping 32% from 2023.

bbc.com/news/articles/c8600x7d…

in reply to R. Scott Pert

Preliminary 2025 data shows further declines: homicides are down 12% year-over-year, and carjackings—once a major concern—have fallen 37% compared to 2023. The DOJ confirmed in January 2025 that violent crime in DC is down 35% from 2023, marking the lowest rate in over three decades.

Trump’s rhetoric focuses on the 2023 spike, which was the highest in 20 years but has since reversed sharply.

Critics argue that exaggerating crime statistics undermines public trust and local governance. The push for federal control has sparked debate over the use of crime data in political narratives, especially when trends show significant improvement.

For context, DC’s homicide rate in 2023 was high but not unprecedented—it was lower than rates in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Trump's clueless use of tariffs is building up to be a catastrophe. He has driven India right into the hands of China. Presumably because of the sycophantic nature of Trumps cabinets no one has ever warned the President of these dangers. Trump himself is so unfitted for this job, he lacks concentration and knowledge, and his whole style is to serve his own narcissism. shorturl.at/wmMjS #RejoinEU #ClimateCrisis
