If Keir Starmer thinks (as being reported) that the real political opponent is ReformUK, then his brazen attempts to move Labour nearer them makes no sense - they already occupy that political ground convincingly, and their voters will not vote for an ersatz version.
At the vey same time there is a centre & centre-left segment of the public, outnumbering Reform voters who Starmer seems to think he can just rely on, even while alternatives (including refusing to vote) are burgeoning!
yes the centre left & left finds itself in a difficult position, but Starmer is spending what diminished credit he had very fast & with no attempt to store up credit - however equally as you say there are other MPs in the cabinet whose views, if heard, would promise some sensible policies
