#Introduccion #Reinicio #Mastodon

Hola!
Integremos causas

W5: Pillars of Star Formation

Images of the star forming region W5 like those in the infrared by NASA's Wide Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE, later NEOWISE) satellite provide clear clues with indications that massive stars near the center of empty cavities are older than stars near the edges. A likely reason for this is that the older stars in the center are actually triggering the formation of the younger edge stars. The triggered star formation occurs when hot outflowing gas compresses cooler gas into knots dense enough to gravitationally contract into stars. In the featured scientifically colored infrared image, spectacular pillars left slowly evaporating from the hot outflowing gas provide further visual clues. W5 is also known as Westerhout 5 (W5) and IC 1848.

The image depicts a stunning view of a nebula in space, captured by NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). The nebula is a vast cloud of gas and dust, illuminated by the light from young, hot stars. The central region of the nebula is dominated by a bright red glow, indicating the presence of ionized hydrogen gas. Surrounding this central area are intricate patterns of gas and dust, with colors ranging from deep reds to bright oranges and whites, suggesting different chemical compositions and temperatures.

The nebula is set against a backdrop of countless stars, some appearing as bright points of light, while others are fainter. The image also shows wispy structures and filaments, which are likely the result of stellar winds and radiation from nearby stars sculpting the nebula's shape. The nebula's complex structure and vibrant colors highlight the dynamic processes occurring within it, such as star formation and the dispersal of material.

The image is credited to NASA's WISE mission and has been processed by Francesco Antonucci, showcasing the beauty and complexity of the universe.

The image depicts a winding river meandering through a dense forested landscape. The river, with its light brownish hue, is flanked by numerous small islands covered in greenery. The water reflects a reddish tint, possibly due to the lighting conditions, which could be either sunrise or sunset. The surrounding forest is thick and uninterrupted, with no visible signs of human development. The river's path is sinuous, creating a series of curves and bends, with the water appearing calm and reflecting the surrounding environment. The overall scene is tranquil and showcases the natural beauty of the area.

A Harvard Commencement Speaker Mentioned Gaza. The School Refused to Publish her Speech. (The Intercept, 2025-06-20)

theintercept.com/2025/06/20/ha…
———

>> Divinity School insiders said Harvard’s practices are at odds with the public perception that the university is fighting Trump.

>> “There are no safe zones left in Gaza after 600 days and 77 years of genocide,” said Zehra Imam, who graduated from the Harvard Divinity School and participated in the embattled Religion and Public Life program. Imam, who is Muslim, was speaking with two other students from Christian and Jewish faiths who had cleared a draft of their planned remarks with the school — and agreed that Imam should go off-script to address the ongoing genocide.

>> #Harvard did not publish a video of the speech on its website or YouTube page, as it did with commencement speeches in past years. When Imam and her co-speakers asked why, the school told them the decision was made due to “security concerns.”

No safe zones left in Gaza after 600 days and 77 years of genocide. I center these students with urgent desperation because time is running out. No meaningful aid has entered Gaza since March 2nd, and this is on our account.

I center Palestine today not just because of its scale of atrocity, but because of our complicity in it.

Class of 2025, Palestine is waiting for us to arrive, and you must be courageous enough to rise to the call because Palestine will keep showing up in our living rooms until we are ready to meet its gaze.

Here I must acknowledge that together in the wilderness we have witnessed the risks that have come with speaking up for this very genocide to be far-reaching. Yet no matter how charged with punishments the scroll, again and again we witness to the enormous hearts, unwavering courage, and profound wisdom of students like Romea Osterk, Mahmud Khalil, Mosen Methawi, and countless others who are in this very audience with us today, such as LM Tatik Tamalo.

[Applause]Our friends and classmates who continue to show up not just for Palestine but for each of us by extending to us the water we need in our most vulnerable moments. Together we must refuse to be ruled by the tyrants of our time because our liberations are intertwined.

We gather now to take our second census. The three of us stand before you not because it was easy to do this together—trust me—but because it was absolutely vital. In a world that has given us chasms so wide no bridge seems to want to meet us along the path, we chose to do this anyway and carve our own path by not lying to each other.

Officials Concede They Don’t Know the Fate of #Iran’s #Uranium

A day after #LiarInChief #Trump declared that Iran’s #nuclear program had been “completely & totally obliterated” by American bunker-busting bombs & a barrage of missiles, …senior officials conceded they did not know…[jack].

Both #JDVance & Rafael Grossi, the head of the #IAEA, acknowledged there were questions about the whereabouts of Iran’s stockpile of near-bomb-grade nuclear material.

#MiddleEast #war
nytimes.com/2025/06/22/us/poli…

JonChevreau reshared this.

in reply to Nonilex

“We are going to work in the coming weeks to ensure that we do something with that fuel & that’s one of the things that we’re going to have conversations with the Iranians about,” #JDVance told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, referring to a batch of #uranium sufficient to make 9 or 10 atomic weapons. Nonetheless, he contended that #Iran’s potential to weaponize that fuel had been set back substantially because it no longer had the equipment to turn that fuel into operative weapons.
#MiddleEast #war
in reply to Nonilex

#Iran has made it clear they are not interested in having conversations with the #UnitedStates, accusing Washington of deceiving Tehran during the last set of negotiations while planning the air attack. Moreover, that stockpile of fuel is now one of the few #nuclear bargaining chips in Iranian hands.

In a briefing for reporters on Sunday, #Defense Secy #PeteHegseth & the new chair of the #JointChiefs of Staff, Dan Caine, avoided #Trump’s maximalist claims of success.

in reply to Nonilex

…Satellite photographs of the primary target, the #Fordow #uranium enrichment plant that #Iran built under a mountain, showed several holes where a dozen 30k-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrators—one of the largest conventional bombs in the #US arsenal—punched deep holes in the rock. The Israeli military’s initial analysis concluded that the site, the target of American & Israeli military planners for >6 years, sustained serious damage from the strike but had not been completely destroyed.

#war

in reply to Nonilex

But there was also evidence, acc/to 2 Israeli officials with knowledge of the intelligence, that #Iran had moved equipment & #uranium from the site in recent days. And there was growing evidence that the Iranians, attuned to #Trump’s repeated threats to take #military action, had removed 400 kilograms, or roughly 880 pounds, of uranium enriched to 60% purity. That is just below the 90% that is usually used in #nuclear weapons.

#MiddleEast #war

in reply to Nonilex

The 60% enriched fuel had been stored deep inside another #nuclear complex, near the ancient capital of Isfahan. Rafael Mariano Grossi, the director general of the #IAEA, said by text that the fuel had last been seen by his teams of United Nations inspectors about a week before #Israel began its attacks on #Iran. In an interview on CNN on Sunday he added that “Iran has made no secret that they have protected this material.”

#MiddleEast #war #Trump

in reply to Nonilex

Asked by text later in the day whether he meant that the fuel stockpile—which is stored in special casks small enough to fit in the trunks of about 10 cars—had been moved, Grossi replied, “I do.” That appeared to be the mystery about the fuel’s fate that #JDVance was discussing.

If so, Isfahan would not be the only place where the custodians of #Iran’s #nuclear program…were trying to move equipment & material out of sight, & harden the Fordow plant to protect what had to stay…

#war #Trump

in reply to Nonilex

Satellite images released by Maxar Technologies at the tunnels leading into the #Fordow mountain, taken in the days before the American strike, show 16 cargo trucks positioned near an entrance. An analysis by the Open Source Centre in London suggested that #Iran may have been preparing the site for a strike.

It is unclear exactly what, if anything, was removed from the facility.

#MiddleEast #war #Trump

in reply to Nonilex

…History…suggests that #diplomacy has usually been more effective than sabotage or #military attacks in providing assurances that a country does not pursue atomic weapons. >15 years ago, the joint #US - #Israel attack on #Natanz, using a sophisticated cyber weapon, caused about ⅕ of the country’s 5k or so centrifuges to blow up.

But #Iran not only rebuilt, they installed more sophisticated equipment. Before Israel’s attack this month, they had ~19k centrifuges in operation.

#MiddleEast #Trump

in reply to Nonilex

It was only when the #Obama admin struck the 2015 #nuclear deal with #Iran that the #UnitedStates got a fuller picture of its capabilities, thanks to the work of inspectors. And those inspections were choked off — & many security cameras disabled — after #Trump declared the nuclear accord a “disaster” & withdrew from it.

Tehran’s reaction was to scale up centrifuge production, enrich #uranium at levels only #weapons states need, & stonewall the #IAEA.

#MiddleEast #war

in reply to Nonilex

Apparently it all kind of depends on what your definition of 'obliterated' is.

Way too many people are happy to believe comfortable lies as long as it suits them

If it allows them to avoid taking responsibility, adapting behaviour or caring about other people?

They will happily gobble anti-vaxx rhetoric

They want to believe sickness and disability can’t happy to them

They need to believe it’s a moral failing

They won’t “get it” until it happens to them. Some remain in denial even after falling ill

#China #SelteneErden #Rohstoffe

in reply to tagesschau

Deepseek sagt:
