Da gibt es ja das Problem, dass Atomkraft- und Kohlekraftwerke die Flüsse unzulässig erwärmen und über Kühltürme Prozesswärme abführen....
Ich verstehe ja schon seit Kindheitstagen nicht, warum diese Wärmeenergie einfach ungenützt rausgeblasen wird und nicht eingefangen und in Fernwärmenetzen an Haushalte verteilt wird.
Warmwasser im Sommer wird zwar weniger benötigt... aber doch Duschen/Baden Menschen auch im Sommer. Bäder, Keller usw. wollen auch im Sommer beheizt werden, oder man speichert die Wärme mit div. Speichermethoden um sie im Winter mittels Wärmepumpen zur Heizung von Gebäuden nutzen zu können...
Die Technik dazu ist auch schon seit über 100 Jahren bekannt und ausgereift.

Die Wiener Wasserversorgung findet über 2 Hochquell-Wasserleitungen statt, die frischestes Quellwasser aus den Alpen für 2 Millionen Menschen direkt in die Stadt fließen lassen.
Und weil der Höhenunterschied in diesen Leitungen doch ziemlich groß ist, haben die Erbauer schon vor über 100 Jahren Turbinen in die Leitungen eingebaut um mit dem Trinkwasser Strom zu erzeugen...
Ich könnt mir vorstellen, dass auch beim Abwasser durch den Höhenunterschied gutes Potential für Stromerzeugung vorhanden ist...

Der Rhein befördert im Mittel 2300 m^3 pro Sekunde, also 2300 Tonnen Wasser pro Sekunde.
2300 Tonnen Wasser auf 10 Meter Höhenunterschied ist eine potentielle Energie von 225,63MW (1 Meter: 22.563 MW).
Eine Wasserturbine hat einen Wirkingsgrad von 90-95%, wir nehmen 92%. Das sind also 20,758MW Leistung für 2300 Tonnen Wasser (also, wenn man den ganzen Rhein nähme).
Selbst wenn man nur einen Bruchteil des Rheinwassers nimmt und der Höhenunterschied klein ist, kommt man auf beträchtliche Energiemengen.
Der mittlere Strombedarf eines Haushalts, bei der Anschlußplanung von Wohnvierteln, wird mit 600 W angesetzt (das wird sich mit Wärmepumpen und elektrischen Fahrzeugen verdoppeln, man muß also mit 1200 W/Haushalt planen).

Dieser Fluss ist wohl in der Größenordnung eines Kläranlagen-Abflusses einer größeren Stadt.
