Certainly some people privacy-minded to the point of compulsion. But I can't say that anyone is wrong to seek extreme levels of privacy based on trends and capabilities.

in reply to Emeritus Prof Christopher May • • •They're also a very good example of how there are many MPs who - when not cowed by the party whip or overly concerned with ambition - are actually reasonable people who want to do what they believe to be the right thing for their constituents.
Unfortunately, they're also a very good example of how Parliamentary schedules need to be reformed, and how 'but we've always done it this way' really isn't an appropriate reason for giving such limited time to incredibly important and complex decisions.
(Having an already very limited time for abortion debate reduced further in order to hold a vote on penalties for fly tipping - a vote that was certain to end in defeat for the amendment - is clearly not serving the country's interests. And that's not to say fly tipping is unimportant. Of course fly tipping matters. But, you know, bit of common sense, bit of proportion wouldn't go amiss.)

It is a very good thing that we have this convention of ethical decisions being removed from the party whips. Many countries do not have that. Many countries make such issues explicitly a matter of party policy.
We should recognise that this is a rare and noble thing, and should fight to retain it.
