Ok, but what if something is right at the very edge of that radius, and something else just the other side of the radius comes along and gives the first a nudge or a pull over the radius limit? Maybe I’m just talking about a single particle of some kind, not a whole star. Seems like you’re saying that’s the moral equivalent of dividing by zero.
Stars and whatnot can enter the radius, but they can never leave - nothing can move faster than light, and the equations of the Theory of Relativity describe why.
Basically, the closer a particle gets to the speed of light, the more energy you have to use to make it go even faster.

17 C° out there, Picù seems convinced that Autumn is here (maybe it is? The seasons are a bit...unpredictable...lately) and she acts accordingly. That means cuddles on the sofa, extra meowing for food (but no extra food! Tragedy!), no hunting in the garden until the temperature is deemed acceptable again, probably next spring.

I’m Poking Around The ATmosphere
For those confused about when I say I’m in the “ATmosphere”:
Bluesky is built on top of the AT Protocol so that your public content and identity can be distributed across apps. Bluesky is just one app built on this, but anyone can build their own web app. Your identity is pretty much an open source asset, albeit often misconstrued as “ownership.” You are the product on social media, essentially. In this sense, you are the product in an open source type of paradigm.
Other web apps in the ATmosphere, built on the AT Protocol, include:
SkyMuseum
PinkSea
Flashes
Accounts suspended on Bluesky are not suspended across the network. They are not actually suspended.
Bluesky actually points this out in their TOS.
“8. Third-Party Services
Summary: Bluesky might link to other apps or websites that we don’t control. If you use them, that’s your choice and your responsibility. We’re not responsible for what happens there.
Bluesky may provide access to third-party websites, services, or resources—including Developer Applications operating on the AT Protocol. Any third-party links or mention of third-party names, trademarks, products, or services is not an endorsement, sponsorship, or recommendation by Bluesky.
We do not control, verify, or assume responsibility for the content, policies, or practices of third-party sites or services. You are solely responsible for reviewing and complying with the terms and privacy policies of any third-party resource you choose to access.
Your use of third-party services is at your own risk, and Bluesky is not liable for any content, functionality, or harm arising from such use.”
Your content and identity live in the AT Protocol on PDS repos, not just Bluesky. So if banned on Bluesky, your posts still appear on apps like Spark or PinkSea.
Because of its decentralized structure, a Bluesky suspension does not affect other ATmosphere apps. Whether or not the ATmosphere is truly decentralized is up for debate. Some people are using Bluesky banning Mississippi as an example of it not being decentralized; however, Bluesky isn’t the ATmosphere. People on the fediverse are bending the truth a bit.
They argue that it is not decentralized because on Mastodon, you can move to another instance if banned, whereas with Bluesky, there are no other instances to go to since authority is centralized. It is true there are no other microblogging apps using the AT protocol yet, but you can move to a different app. It is all very messy. I like ActivityPub better.
Its structure is decentralized, but whether it actually functions that way is another matter entirely. That is an ongoing debate within the Fediverse right now, especially in light of the age verification laws sweeping across the Internet.
AT Protocol (ATproto) feels very similar to blockchains, to be frank. DIDs feel very cryptocoin esque. A PDS feels like running your own node in a blockchain network. You can technically take your PDS elsewhere, just like switching crypto wallets or blockchain explorers, because your identity and data are not locked to a single service provider. It creates this illusion of “self ownership,” similar to how the crypto space talks about “owning your digital assets.” And that makes perfect sense when you realize that Bluesky was venture capital funded by Blockchain Capital. So of course, the protocol would operate similarly to block chains.
I recently did a memetic analysis tracing the phylogenetics of the memetics of Bluesky, where I found evolutionary markers of meme propagation originating from progenitor image board cultures.
From Chan Spaces and Toxic Image Boards to Bluesky
PinkSea is an AT Protocol web app that is a modern revival of the classic “oekaki BBS” (bulletin board system) art boards. That this canvas exists pretty much confirms the connection to image boards. I have been comparing BlueSky to Twitter, but I think the idioms, culture, and conventions lean closer to Tumblr.

The video features a person in an indoor setting with a modern, industrial-style ceiling, visible pipes, and a green pendant light. Initially, the person is wearing a blue, red, and white hoodie with a lace-up front, and the text overlay reads, "Hey bro, wanna boil a giant a spider alive, break his legs, and suck whatever comes out??" The person gestures with their hands, including a thumbs-up and a fist, while the text remains on the screen.
The scene transitions to the same individual now wearing a brown t-shirt with a checkered pattern and the text "YOU AREN'T INVITED" across the chest. They are seen gesturing with their hands, possibly explaining something, and the background remains consistent with the previous scene.
The video then returns to the person in the blue, red, and white hoodie, with the text overlay changing to, "Wanna eat some crab legs?" The person continues to gesture, including a fist gesture, while the text remains on the screen.
In the final scene, the person is back in the brown t-shirt, holding a knife and fork, with a paper towel tucked into their shirt. They appear to be preparing to eat, with the background remaining consistent with the previous scenes. The video concludes with the person holding the utensils and paper towel, ready to eat.

'No, Mastodon is not decentralized'
I have seen so much discourse the last week or two poking at Bluesky for falsely claiming to be decentralized, and pointing to Mastodon (rather than *the fediverse*) as being an example of true decentralized social networking. Spoiler alert: it isn’t.

Your narrative only works as long as you remain within the Mastodon ecosystem.
But the Fediverse is not Mastodon and leaves out 50% of all servers that use different software.
Yes, Mastodon remains dominant, and centralisation on just one or two instances is a fundamental mistake.
And if you switch Fediverse software, you can also take your post history with you and import it, just as an aside.

I always cite my sources (my books have a massive bibliography), and I release my translations under a #CreativeCommons Zero licence, so there has been no cause for plagiarism in my recent work.
That being said, I did learn that #Meta used some very old snippets I wrote for "Teralogos News" - that is, in-setting news for the #GURPS #TranshumanSpace line - to train their #AI , which counts.
If you want to check if your own work was used to train Meta's AI without permission, and want to know how to check the class action lawsuit, check this post by @Richard_Littler :
Surprised to find a journal article I wrote and submitted the details.
