Ah, Perl & CGI, now that brings back memories! It's fantastic that some of my apps I wrote using Perl are still running strong on RHEL 8/9 even though I no longer work there. The fact that an Nginx-CGI plugin exists is a perfect example of how classic, reliable standards can be paired with modern stuff. It’s a great blend of old school tech and new school. nginx-cgi plugin is all about that. The question is would you use it today given CGI is bad for High QPS/traffic/concurrency apps? (1/2)

I'd probably use it. CGI seems like the simplest thing to set up and deploy for nginx and apache2 versus other options which are full blown web frameworks (like Mojolicious, Dancer2, Catalyst, etc.) or require a bit more involved setup as a less tread path (like PSGI/Plack). I'd probably consider CGI::Tiny since it doesn't try to convince anyone not to use it.
I've been fairly unconvinced by CGI.pm's own documentation that it's so bad and I shouldn't use it. 🤷

Heute kommt endlich das neue Folienkabel in die Kamera. Habe gelesen, dass einer bei diesem Einbau seine Kamera geschrottet hat. Möge Hatgeklapptjuchhetl, der Gott der Reparaturen, mir holder sein.
Die Kamera ist nicht geschrottet. Das Ablöten des Annäherungssensors (vermute ich) vom alten und Anlöten an das neue Folienkabel war $§"&%§$/($§&$%&$§"%$"!§$%"WASEINSCHEISSJOB. Das neue Folienkabel zerstörungsfrei durch die diversen Bauteile zu flechten, falten und kneten war … s. Löten. Folienkabelstecker auf kleinstem, nein, ohne Raum mit einem kunterbunten ZIF-Buchsenmix zu verbinden, macht auch so richtig Laune. Schlechte.
Ergebnis: Die Sollbruchstelle Annäherungssensor funktioniert nach wie vor und der Bildschirm ist nun wieder in jeder Klappposition in Betrieb. Allerdings zeigt er durchgängig: nix außer seiner Hintergrundbeleuchtung. 🥳 Also morgen nochmal zerlegen und alle Verbindungen checken. *seufz*
Manchmal ist Gewalt halt doch eine Lösung: Kaum rammt man das vom Bildschirm kommende Folienkabel mit einer gestern nicht gewagten Brutalität in die Buchse auf dem Mainboard, funktioniert alles.
Reparatur somit doch noch erfolgreich. Ick freu mir. 🤩💪
Heute findet bei uns in Dortmund, auf dem Phoenixsee das Drachenboot Festival 2025 statt. Und wie schon in den letzten Jahren paddeln wir, mit den Holy Phoenix aus unserer Pfarrei, kräftig mit. Just gerade ist unser Team in das 1. Rennen gestartet. Mal sehen, ob heute Abend ein kleiner Pokal in einer unserer Kirchen stehen wird! 😉

I broadly agree but most of our family's NHS experience is a lot better than that reported for Scotland. Things I think (subjective biased sampling?) are much better in continental Europe: Driver behaviour. Standards of courtesy among strangers. Quality of the public realm (pavements, urban green spaces). Support for small businesses. Coffee. Public transport, generally. In Northern Europe and a number of other places, cycle provision. Linguistic capabilities.
