That is way worse than just getting single use if you are just collecting them and not actually using them. Reusable are a net positive only if you actually reuse them hundreds of times.

No. I still bring my reusable bag to the store. I never had a car, use a bike or public transit. I 've always been very careful. But it's just very disappointing to see some moderately rich asshole ruin all of my lifetime efforts in a day. Also, the pandemic showed me that most people don't give a fuck and just wanted to go back to "normal" polluting.
In fact, the whole plastic industry convinced people over the years into cleaning and recycling it instead of reducing its use. Also, I'm sure some of you know that lots of reusable bags are just thicker plastic, that they need to be reused a whole lots of times before being "ecological", that some people like to collect them, and that it can ends up being worse than using disposable ones.
We just can't stop the consumption, but somehow, bringing a reusable bag will remove the guilt.
I still feel very guilty and like it's a failure every time I have to use a car, but that's just me because everyone is encouraging me to get one and use them. Just get an electric one. They are heavier and require like tones of batteries to move 1.5 person around, and their reusable bags, but they are "ecological"!
Google's emissions have risen by 50% in a few years, mostly because of AI. So I try to avoid using "AI". But apparently, most people don't have those concerns.
When I see all the ways the people around me pollute, consume and dispose, the reusable bag is low on the list of things I feel guilty about.
Fear not for there is still enough room in my backpack for some essentials. I may have to carry my water bottle in hand, but this is a sacrifice I am willing to make for the greater good.

Last I remember, a cloth bag needs to be used for a minimum of 1000 grocery trips for it to even begin to offset the environmental cost of making it.
Now, I've had mine for 5 years. So I'm making good progress.
But I do miss the plastic ones just because I always used them as garbage bags. The tax on plastic grocery bags are nuts. They cost a buck each. Unless you buy 50 of them for garbage use... then they're all of a sudden dirt cheap and so thin it feels like breathing on them will poke a hole.
So one cloth bag is equal to 1,000 plastic bags? That doesn't seem right. Certainly it can't be taken into effect that garbage created by the 1,000 plastic bags.
Yes I understand the cotton bag will take a lot more than a plastic bag to create. I'm just doubting the Thousand to one number. But again what I'm really really doubting is that they've taken into account the effect of a thousand bags have after they're made. Which is rather the point of switching to the cotton bags in the first place. Or other types of bags by the way they don't all have to be cotton. I've never owned a cotton one. Not sure why that has to be our only example here.
Here is some info from the UN. They take into account a lot of factors beyond carbon output, including acidification of oceans and land use changes. So the 1000 uses is how many uses to be better in all categories. For carbon output, it is around 150 uses.
I guess it depends which categories are more important to you. Plastic is obviously going to be superior in agricultural run-off issues. Cloth is obviously superior in micro plastic emissions. They don't evaluate microplastics though, so it might be skewed in favour of plastic.
More reusable and personal than a factory bag, and you already know how to mend it to keep it going. Uses less raw resources than a plastic bag, as it was going to the trash anyways. It's a great beginner sewing project.
I have this folding/ collapsible crate I keep in my trunk of my car. ( yeah I know car) I love it it holds like 6 bags worth of stuff. Makes 2 trips bringing things in and out of the car into one( no need to do the Heman 10 bags in one hand thing). I always forget bring in the bags I keep in my car but I enjoy using the crate so there is that.
Also I know the crate probably uses same amount of plastic as like a million bags or something. But I have had the crate before the bag thing became an issue and use it for things like camping and day trips. Also I now buy small plastic bags to pick up my dogs shit instead of using the bags I got from the store. Also buy bags for my bathroom now. I wonder how much plastic I have saved by not using plastic bags at the store...

I only have the idea right now, and it is something very vaguely inspired by the traceback buffers in Slime/Sly that would be hard to summarize in a few sentences... my plan was to ask you how you would translate this to two SBCLs running in parallel, with Slime controlling both - just forget the 3-window setting and use a 2-window setting, it would be easier for you - and then I'll start by your translation and build the interface the selects the right Slime target...
generating ee find functions for the different repls? For my high level example I have written just now, I have one slime repl in charge of redrawing a gnuplot, and I have a second slime repl in charge of making the data for the gnuplot.
Debugging my example, whatever I typed didn't seem to get sending redraw to the gnuplot to redraw yet though so I will still be a few minutes.
Oh right I looked at your picture, something like using named pipes? As you saw in my gif, I gravitated towards emacs server-start and then using an emacsclient process to evaluate in emacs, possibly evaluating eepitch-send.
I forget exactly what, but asyncronously starting an external process inside common lisp slime was necessary to avoid what were tricky hook issues I think.
I really want the eepitch buffer I just pitched to to be able to use eepitch itself on another buffer.
I didn't quite get to it but in my example today, you can see I have a three buffer configuration, where my control buffer is alternating commands between an SBCL image to numerically compute values, and an ECL image running a graphical app.

I kill and restart my eepitch sessions all the time, and I don't even know if you do that too or not...
At some point I would be able to test your prototypes in 30 minutes each, instead of taking two evenings for each one - and with little chance of success in each case... and at that point testing your things will become a priority in my spare-ish time.
That is an important goal for me to work towards as well- I guess the "it works on my computer" problem. I'm just in a different city to normal right now, so it's a bad time for me to communicate this couple of days particularly.

I really like your temporary file/directory, git stuff, the thing with the customized code-c-d with regex, though well-integrating it and also sharing with others are two big challenges.

If I ever create another character in #FFXIV, I will not make the mistake of not levelling all the crafting and gathering classes at once, so gear is shared.
I think that having four retainers is probably ideal, for an extra $4/mo subscription fee: 2 Miners to eventually mine topsoils simultaneously (you can otherwise only get a single topsoil at a time, when you need 8 to fill a garden), one Botanist, and one Fisher. That also gives you 700 extra inventory slots, 175 per retainer.
The 8 crafting classes can all share armor and accessories, the 3 gathering classes can share armor and accessories. As your retainers level up, you can hand the gear down to them.
Culinarian especially takes up a ridiculous amount of inventory space, but this is only slightly less true of all the other crafting classes. And Fisher is a little silly with how you are pretty much required to metagame it, and how many inv. slots you need to keep open just for fish and bait, esp. while fishing.
And the fact that there's really no good way to automate crafting other than macros for specific recipes (which still have to be activated manually), no way to guarantee 100% high quality results when Quick Crafting, even at high levels, is truly frustrating, one of the things for which I think Square Enix deserves harsh criticism.
There's also the issue where the Role Quests in #FFXIV #Shadowbringers, #Endwalker, and #Dawntrail cover multiple jobs, and if you aren't levelling them all up at the same time, you can't split the EXP between them.
Since I didn't unlock Culinarian and Fisher before I levelled up all the others to 100, I can't go back and re-do those quests for the EXP for CUL or FSH.
And, just from the perspective of worldbuilding as a game designer, there are so many things abou #FFXIV that make no sense, like we're supposed to believe that there's no such thing as trade with the areas we haven't unlocked yet, until we unlock them.
Or, right now, I'm crafting Rarefied Griller Rail, and it requires Garlean Garlic, an ingredient from literally a different *dimension*, a different *universe*.
and you can only buy the Garlean Garlic in one place, the Culinarian's Guild in Limsa Lominsa (plus a few speciality suppliers you dont' normally have access to), or harvest it in one specific place in Thanalan, despite the fact that garlic, as we all know, is one of humanity's most beloved ingredients, worldwide, and is grown and sold literally everywhere on Earth, except maybe the polar regions.
and actually, the Rarefied Grilled Rail requires two different ingredients from another universe, because it also requires Abalathian Rock Salt, from one specific place in The Sea of Clouds.
Like, WTF were they thinking? At least travel between the worlds, once you get to that part, is relatively cheap, but from a worldbuilding perspective, it's nonsensical.

#BikeNite A5. I tend to use "conventional bicycle", when a distinction needs to be made, or simply just "bicycle", when a distinction is superfluous.
As a musician, I don't think "acoustic" is the proper term for a bicycle, and my ebike isn't automatic in any way, so "manual" isnt' right, either. My ebike also requires me to use my human muscle power just as much, it just goes faster than my conventional bicycle.

I have been using analogue instead tho' even though that makes even less sense. nothing about my Class 1 eBike is digital other than the controller/display, and any bike can have a digital display on it.

I was actually already aware of the Enviolo with the automatic shifting, but I neither have one nor want one. I wouldn’t mind an Enviolo manual, though. One of our library bikes has it.
Also, calling the Enviolo “internally geared” is misleading, as it doesn’t use gears, at all. It uses a variable camber friction roller system. It’s quite ingenious, although a bit inefficient and cannot handle very high torque.
