I highly, HIGHLY disagree with the use of the word "demon" in any context of Japanese folklore. "Demon" carries very specific cultural information and nuance that is simply not there in the Japanese. But... "Demon Slayer" makes big money, and capitalism always wins.
in reply to Zack Davisson

Yeah, gotta watch out for cultures specific terms.

I try to avoid the term "faeries" when talking about spirits from German folklore for similar reasons.

The image shows a screenshot of a GitHub repository page for "The Algorithms - Python." The page is set against a dark background with text in white and blue. At the top, the repository name "TheAlgorithms" and the language "Python" are displayed. Below, the title "The Algorithms - Python" is prominently featured. Key information includes a Gitpod link for "Ready-to-Code," a repository size of 15.1 MiB, and 211 online users in the chat. The CI status is "passing," and pre-commit is enabled with the code style being "ruff." The page states that all algorithms are implemented in Python for educational purposes, noting that they may be less efficient than the Python standard library. A section titled "Getting Started" suggests reading the contribution guidelines before contributing. The "Community Channels" section mentions Discord and Gitter for community interaction.

The image displays a mobile device screen with a dark background and a list of items under the title "DIRECTORY.md." The screen is divided into two main sections: "Audio Filters" and "Backtracking." The "Audio Filters" section includes three items: "Butterworth Filter," "Iir Filter," and "Show Response," with the first two items highlighted in blue. The "Backtracking" section lists various algorithms and problems, such as "All Combinations," "All Permutations," "All Subsequences," "Coloring," "Combination Sum," "Crossword Puzzle Solver," "Generate Parentheses," "Generate Parentheses Iterative," "Hamiltonian Cycle," "Knight Tour," "Match Word Pattern," "Minimax," "N Queens," "N Queens Math," "Power Sum," and "Rat In Maze," with all items highlighted in blue. The top of the screen shows the time as 01:09, a battery level of 76%, and a 4G signal. The bottom of the screen features navigation buttons.

Asking for the sense of the fediverse:

I'm in a very sparsely populated area, for local news we're (sort of) served by an on-line news site with posts by mostly volunteer reporters.

Today one of the reporters posted news on wastewater issues in the county seat. She cited, and quoted extensively from, a Google AI overview, and included an AI generated illustration. Do I:

1) contact her by email (which she provided) noting that Google AI is not a reputable, verifiable source of information? And that AI-generated illustrations are environmentally disastrous and a bad idea in journalism?

2) reply in the public comment section for that article that Google AI is not a reputable, verifiable source of information? And that AI-generated illustrations are environmentally disastrous and a bad idea in journalism?

3) ignore it, because it's not my job to try to educate those who don't really want to be educated?

What do you think? And, what would you do?

Can some #Linux nerd or dev help me understand why every time I open Kontact, all the colors I picked for my contacts are all fucked up? How do I fix this?
Hell, I'd settle with knowing where that is stored an kludging a fix with a damn cron script to copy a correct config file back where it belong or something!

If you are interested I can add you into the Seattle Matrix Linux channel. Lots of fellow Linux enthusiasts. In the General as well.

It was the West Seattle LUG channel but we disbanded the club. 🙁

in reply to Miakoda

We now have humans from all over the world in it. I'll add you tomorrow.
in reply to Miakoda

OK Sooo I had assumed you had a Matrix account as I saw you in the Furi Labs channel but it appears you were coming in via Telegram bridge.

Do you have a matrix handle yet?

in reply to Justin

@justin I'll have to check when I'm on my laptop. I don't see it in Chatty, but I blame Chatty
in reply to Miakoda

ye it might be that app. Ive never heard of it. I use FluffyChat on mobile and element on desktop.

I also invited you to the SeattleMatrix Space 😁

in reply to Justin

@justin Chatty is the sms app on Linux Mobile, and it also does XMPP and Matrix... but it does not seem to be reliable for Matrix.

Does it Make Sense to Upgrade a Prusa MK4S to a Core One?

One of the interesting things about Prusa’s FDM 3D printers is the availability of official upgrade kits, which allow you to combine bits off an older machine with those of the target machine to ideally save some money and not have an old machine gathering dust after the upgrade. While for a bedslinger-to-bedslinger upgrade this can make a lot of sense, the bedslinger to CoreXY Core One upgrade path is a bit more drastic. Recently the [Aurora Tech] channel had a look at which upgrade path makes the most sense, and in which scenario.

A big part of the comparison is the time and money spent compared to the print result, as you have effectively four options. Either you stick with the MK4S, get the DIY Core One (~8 hours of assembly time), get the pre-assembled Core One (more $$), or get the upgrade kit (also ~8 hours). There’s also the fifth option of getting the enclosure for the MK4S, but it costs about as much as the upgrade kit, so that doesn’t make a lot of logical sense.

In terms of print quality, it’s undeniable that the CoreXY motion system provides better results, with less ringing and better quality with tall prints, but unless you’re printing more than basic PLA and PETG, or care a lot about the faster print speeds of the CoreXY machine with large prints, the fully enclosed Core One is a bit overkill and sticking with the bedslinger may be the better choice.

The long and short of it is that you have look at each option and consider what works best for your needs and your wallet.

Finished a run of turned taqueté hand towels on 8 shafts. The warp is 8/4 cotton with some doubled 8/2. (This was a stash project). Weft is 5/2 in a few different colors, but since turned taqueté is warp dominant, the color differences are subtle. The orignal drafts were in Handwoven a few years ago. I am now trying to teach myself how to design turned taqueté myself. We'll see how that goes...🤞 😂

I don't know what it is about the Cardinal babies but I am just enchanted by them every year. I love the adventurous mottled feathers, their attitude and how adorable they are. They are one of the big reasons reason I have cameras positioned on the ground because they tend to find feeders only when they are older. A good ID marker is the color of the beak - only the adults have a red one. #birds

The image depicts a suburban scene under a clear blue sky with scattered white clouds. In the foreground, there is a dirt path with a small puddle of water, bordered by a paved area with hexagonal tiles. The path leads to a grassy area with several palm trees, adding a tropical feel to the scene. In the background, residential buildings with red and white roofs are visible, along with parked cars and utility poles with wires. The overall atmosphere is bright and sunny, with a mix of natural and man-made elements.

“Break Out” (1984) by The Pointer Sisters – 12” 33 RPM LP.

This is the definitive edition—the one loaded with the mega-hit “I’m So Excited”. Wild fact: that song was originally meant for Michael Jackson. Hard to picture it now, because it’s impossible to imagine the 80s without the Pointer Sisters owning it.

But this album isn’t just riding one hit. It’s stacked, front to back, with cuts that hit hard. No filler. No duds. Just peak Pointer Sisters.

What often goes unsaid: Break Out is one of the most forward-looking electro-dance records of the decade. The very thing that makes it futuristic—the layers of synths and electronic production—is also what makes it sound warm, rich, and full of life.

This is 80s pop at its sharpest edge, and it hasn’t lost an ounce of heat.

@recordpics

I've knitted an #EmotionalSupportChicken just for a laugh. I've slightly weighted her which I think feels really nice.

I've seen various stories for how these came about and got their name, from toys for kids after bush fires to pillows for use by patients after chest surgery. She's definitely a huggable shape and size, so I can understand why it feels comforting.

There are many free versions of the pattern online and YouTube tutorials as well. You can buy the original pattern from Ravelry.

in reply to Karen Strickholm

@KarenStrickholm I tried to get glass bead stuffing initially, but it's not easy to get here. In the end I went to my local $2 shop and bought a palm sized bag of "decorative pebbles" - I would estimate about 400g in weight. I sewed a flat pouch out of felt fabric and tightly packed the stones into it, so they don't make a clinking sound. I put the pouch about ¼ of the way up from the bottom, with poly fill underneath and around it.

I hope that helps! Wonderful that you're onto number 4 🐔 Are they a personal project or do you have people in mind for them?

SO cute! Fun and easy to knock out, too. I make them with yarn scraps. A great way to try out new skills like embroidery. And, the childlike delight on people's faces when they receive one is priceless. Here's the pattern... 🥰

in reply to Clianthus 🏴‍☠️

It was actually 1st one I made, it was very plain and stitch size too big, so stuffing was peeking through. Settled on US3 needles, three strands of fingering held together, for main body parts, on later chickies. Anything is fine for the embroidery, which I just did.

You can check out my #Ravelry Project pages for these if you want to see my notes. @KarenSantaFe
