In the US, police can collect "evidence" in the course of investigating crimes. In a way a heap of cash could be evidence of a crime. However they simply get to keep this cash (it goes to the police station that takes it and perhaps some disappears along the way some of the time) this creates a perverse incentive to just take any cash from anyone they think they can get away with snatching it from.

This isn't a one off. If you look at the comments you can find similar stories of people who had sums like this taken by the police, but were never charged with a crime. As the news story shows it cost about 15k for him to get the cash back, so only people with some means can bother and lawyers won't do it probono.
Really there should be a default that if cash is seized without evidence you get it back ten fold plus legal fees.

The problem started with the courts accepting the lie that this is not a Fifth Amendment taking without due process but instead an action against the money. This is bullshit. But since the courts have endorsed this lie, it is up to state legislatures and Congress to fix it.
@fuchsi It’s scary. I first heard of this some years back when cops pulled a car over for some ridiculous reason, then searched it. A kid was driving across the country for university and had cash for tuition. Cops said they were keeping it because of “suspected drug money.” Apparently this is how some departments fund themselves. Which sounds like banana republic crap.

L’indagine è stata avviata in seguito alle segnalazioni di utenti che, dopo l’installazione della patch KB5063878, hanno affermato che i loro SSD e HDD hanno iniziato a guastarsi o a danneggiare i dati.
L’azienda ha ammesso di essere a conoscenza di tali incidenti e di aver raccolto informazioni dai clienti interessati. They're absolutely trying to filter out foreigners by assuming that native speakers attain C2 automatically and don't need to go through the tests. But C2 includes so many skills that most native speakers don't fully attain. Most native speakers end up in B2 to C1 depending on education level (and yes that's a lil fucked up too)

The dog has a proper name but I almost never use it. The dog was already 8 years old when it came to live with us. I have a "no pets allowed in my house" policy. But this isn't my house. I don't know that I can ever afford a house again, but I digress.
The dog had been rescued, put on the mend. It was skittish of us, wouldn't eat, still sometimes doesn't. Afraid of doors, of feet, of the brooms.
It was touch and go for days. It seemed the dog was very ill those first few days. I told my wife, "this is your dog, you rescued it, but I can't bear to see it suffering, take it to the vet, but if there's no way to help it..."
I pleaded, "Please, don't make it suffer more than it has to."
Spoilers the dog is still here. Thunderstorms, firecrackers (a thing here during holidays), would send the dog scurrying and running and trying to hide under furniture.
At first the dog would sleep close enough that it could hear us. But not close enough that we could touch it. We got it a dogbox to hide in but would not go inside. We got it a bed, but wouldn't use it.
I started making up songs. And sung to the doggo so it wouldn't be startled by my sudden presence. So it would know where I was.
It started sleeping in the kennel. But sometimes it sleeps next to the side of my bed. Now the doggo follows me around everywhere.
But the dog doesn't like it that much when I'm working. I think maybe I speak to loudly when I'm in a conference call. Maybe the mechanical keyboard is annoying. Plus it likes going out into the little yard. I just leave the back door open, someday I serial killer will get us both, me and the dog.
Then yesterthursday there was a severe thunderstorm. I was working and of course the power went out briefly. I got up stretched.
"Oh shit doggo must be going crazy trying to hide!"
I opened the office door, and shouted, "BRO! COME HERE!"
"BRO! DUDE! bro!?"
I had that sinking feeling in my stomach, what if somehow the dog had gotten so scared of the thunder that it had escaped the house somehow. Anxiously, I went looking for the dog.
Doggo was fucking sleeping through a thunderstorm!
