Had a really lovely dream about finding a new library. It had tall beautiful antique bookshelves, with an attached moveable ladder, and 3 stories with a see-through central space in the middle, which had a Victorian sky light at the top. It also connected to a building next door which was a natural history museum and art gallery. I had a lovely time wandering round then settled down with a book in a quiet reading nook.

Back in 2012 I was working for one of the darlings of the Spanish startup scene, and they hired one of these wonderboy programmers that were in fashion back then (you know the pattern: 17-19 y.o. kid who made an app or a framework and the press interviewed them as the new Bill Gates). In his first day, this dude went desk by desk, looking at our code, and pointing out at everything he thought it was clumsy or inelegant, to the point of laughing from time to time. I've never seen someone so close to get punched in an office environment. (Three months after that he deleted half of the production database after running an untested script against it. DevOps managed to restore a backup the was barely an hour old, and he was not fired, but everyone, including the managers that hired him and were treating him as a computer genius, started treating him as the baby developer he was, at last)
Good morning. I had a long sleep but woke up many times throughout the night. At least however I was able to drift off again each time. I got up late after lying in bed listening to the rain for a while.
I’m honestly not sure what to do with myself for the next few days. I have very little to do for my PhD until Friday. I emailed my boss for my previous job, which I continue to do 7 hours a week, saying I have lots of free time and it would be great to crack on with her project… I’ve been waiting weeks for her to aggregate two datasets so I can analyse the qual stuff, but nothing. I do actually want to work!

I think this is the first time ever a train on regular passenger service traveled from Ljubljana on 3kV DC, switched to 25kV AC power in Dobova and continued on to Zagreb!!
Okay, so what's going on and why is this important?
Up until today, to travel between Zagreb and Ljubljana you had to book a seat on one of the 3 daily pairs of trains on long distance services (to Villach, Stuttgart, Zürich etc.. These trains are fine, but Ljubljana is just a stop on them.
Meanwhile, the two cities are very close and there's no good reason why there shouldn't be extra service here. Slovenian railways run a ton of trains to Dobova, 20 minutes away from Zagreb main station. Why not continue them on Zagreb then??
Up until recently, there was a relatively good reason - electric trains couldn't run between Slovenia and Croatia without changing locomotives because of voltage difference. But nowadays there are multi phase trains that can run on both! More about this here: blog.vladovince.com/the-histor…

So starting today, Slovenske železnice are extending two daily local trains that used to go from Ljubljana to Dobova all the way to Zagreb, giving passengers more options! That's two more pairs of trains between two cities!

Am I missing something fundamental? If a #refugee is seeking asylum in the UK for their own safety (which is the concept of being a refugee), why would their immediate family members (partners and children) not also be at risk? Why should refugee status deny them a right to family life?
This rightwing bile from #Cooper and #Labour is a mistake that will cost them votes.

It’s a racist announcement, designed purely to appeal to racists…with no consideration given to the women and children who will suffer and may die as a result of it.

The deliberate decision to target the most vulnerable and their even more vulnerable children in the name of trying to get a few positive headlines in the Daily Mail and Express before MPs go back to Parliament, is absolutely shameful.
