We've built intellectual engines of extraordinary capability, but in our rush to make them accessible, we've wrapped them in the fiction of personhood, creating a new kind of technological risk: not that AI will become conscious and turn against us but that we'll treat unconscious systems as if they were people, surrendering our judgment to voices that emanate from a roll of loaded dice."

Well I hope freedumb Libertarians are happy now. They were celebrating eliminating inspections so they don’t have to spend $35 every year on a sticker, so now they’re free to drive around with bald tires and no brakes. Yay freedumb!!
Maybe if they weren’t such children they would have been able to anticipate some of these consequences. I can’t speak for all poor people, but I would rather spend money on an inspection sticker and necessary safety equipment for my car than have it impounded by the police and have to pay a tow yard daily storage fees if I don’t have the $ to tow it home.
I’m almost positive we still have a law here that says if you abandon a vehicle to a tow yard because you can’t afford to get it out they can suspend your drivers license.
If the police get their way they’ll be able to impound your car on the side of the road based on their judgment. But hey at least you won’t have to get it inspected every year!
