Today in #electronics I built the world's worst Direct Conversion Receiver, for the AM broadcast band
It sounds very poor and low volume, but it definitely works, I can receive both of the two local stations at 630kHz and 800kHz
The LO is my signal generator
I tried adding a RF amp to fix the low volume but it resulted in breakthrough of the stronger station and heavy distortion
also tried amplifying the audio between LPF and LM386 without success

Having tried to build a generic ActivityPub server, I can confirm: this is very difficult, maybe impossible. The server needs to understand the payloads -- in order to generate collections, for example. And security implications of allowing arbitrary activities are not quite clear.
However, I think a modified version of ActivityPub protocol could support generic servers.

@xmppbrasil One thing that may be required is a removal of side effects.
For example, when a server processes Accept(Follow) activity, it is supposed to add the actor to the following collection. ActivityPub specification describes it as a "side effect". In order to do this, the server must understand the meaning of Accept(Follow) and how following collection works.
To avoid this, clients could generate Add(target: following) activity whenever they generate an Accept(Follow) activity. The implicit action becomes explicit, so a server would only need to know how to process generic activities like Add and Remove.

but you could still keep side effects if you somehow signaled which clients attached to which inboxes and what they do. a "default client" can manage AP side effects

Here in Texas, I went to an HEB pharmacy and got it. I didn't have to provide health insurance information: it was free. I'm unclear on if I would have gotten it without a qualifying condition. Your mileage may vary, and this is a situation that could change rapidly, but I recommend going to your local pharmacy and trying to get it while you can.

NEC V20: The Original PC Processor Upgrade
In the early 1980s, there was the IBM PC, with its 4.77 MHz Intel 8088 processor. It was an unexpected hit for the company, and within a few years there were a host of competitors. Every self-respecting technology corporation wanted a piece of the action including processor manufacturers, and among those was NEC with their V20 chip and its V30 sibling. From the outside they were faster pin-compatible 8088 and 8086 clones, but internally they could also run both 8080 and 80186 code. [The Silicon Underground] has a look back at the V20, with some technical details, history, and its place as a PC upgrade.
For such a capable part it’s always been a surprise here that it didn’t take the world by storm, and the article sheds some light on this in the form of an Intel lawsuit that denied it a critical early market access. By the time it was available in quantity the PC world had moved on from the 8088, so we saw it in relatively few machines. It was a popular upgrade for those in the know back in the day though as it remains in 2025, and aside from its immediate speed boost there are a few tricks it lends to a classic PC clone. The version of DOS that underpinned Windows 95 won’t run on an 8086 or 8088 because it contains 8016 instructions, but a V20 can run it resulting in a much faster DOS experience. One to remember, if an early PC or clone cones your way.
Hungry for the good old days of DOS? You don’t need to find 80s hardware for that.

Jeg opplever at samfunnet jeg lever i er urettferdig, splittet og vanskelig å trives i. Jeg ser hvordan arbeidslivet i Norge blir stadig mer styrt av kapitalkrefter, staten og store byråkratiske organisasjoner, samtidig som rommet for selvstendig kamp og solidaritet snevres inn. Likevel kjenner jeg at det finnes et driv i meg, en vilje til å stå imot og en tro på at vi kan bygge noe bedre dersom arbeiderne tar styringen selv.
Det er her jeg ser betydningen av syndikalismen. Norsk Syndikalistisk Forbund (NSF) er en del av Internasjonale Arbeiderassosiasjon (IAA), og står i en tradisjon som går tilbake til stiftelsen av Norsk Syndikalistisk Federation i 1916. Den gang oppsto bevegelsen i kjølvannet av svensk arbeideres syndikalistiske organisering, og selv om dette ble møtt med skepsis fra LO og Norsk Arbeidsmandsforbund, var det et viktig brudd: de valgte en kampform tuftet på direkte aksjon, føderative samorganisasjoner og arbeiderklassens selvstendige makt, i stedet for parlamentariske reformer og avhengighet av politikere.
Etter en periode med nedgang ble NSF-IAA reorganisert i 1977, og har siden fungert som et samlingspunkt for syndikalistiske arbeidere i Norge. De har ikke ønsket å bli et nytt parti eller en tradisjonell "venstreside‑gruppe", men å gjøre seg gjeldende gjennom praktisk arbeid i fagbevegelsen, på arbeidsplassene og i solidaritetsarbeid internasjonalt. De er en del av en anti-autoritær tradisjon som setter selvforvaltning og direkte demokrati i sentrum, og de bygger organisasjonen nedenfra og opp.

Alle avgjørelser som angår medlemmene skal tas av medlemmene selv, og kampmidlene må være direkte aksjoner, fra streik og blokader til kreative kollektivt organiserte tiltak, ikke juridiske prosesser og evige kompromisser.
Det som inspirerer meg mest er tanken om at vi som arbeidere kan skape et samfunn styrt av oss selv, hvor produksjon og arbeid skjer på grunnlag av solidaritet, vern om menneskelig verdighet og respekt for miljøet. Jeg ser ikke syndikalismen som en fjern utopi, men som et praktisk svar her og nå på et system som stadig fratar oss makt og spiller oss ut mot hverandre.
Når jeg deler lenker til Norsk Syndikalistisk Forbund og til historien om syndikalismen i Norge, så er det fordi jeg ser dette som et nødvendig alternativ. Jeg tror ikke at løsningen ligger hos LO‑toppen, hos Arbeiderpartiet eller i "venstresida" som krangler om analyser og deklarasjoner. Løsningen ligger hos oss selv, i vår evne til å organisere oss direkte, solidarisk og uten mellomledd. Det er i denne retningen jeg vil, og det er derfor jeg er syndikalist.

Jeg har ingenting imot min sjef, men når viktige beslutninger som former arbeidsdagen min tas uten at jeg har reell innflytelse, undergraver det min tillit til systemet som styrer arbeidsplassen. Å bli fratatt medbestemmelsesretten på egen arbeidsplass er en systemfeil som rammer mange arbeidere, og det er uholdbart at beslutningene tas over hodet på oss som utfører arbeidet.
Gjennom anarko-syndikalisme har jeg lært at arbeidslivet kan og må organiseres uten hierarkiske og autoritære strukturer. Arbeidsplassen skal være under direkte, demokratisk kontroll av de som arbeider der, organisert føderativt og desentralisert, slik at all makt og beslutningsrett ligger hos arbeiderne selv, gjennom direkte demokrati.
Denne organisasjonsformen bygger på fundamentale prinsipper som klassesolidaritet, kollektivt ansvar og direkte aksjon. Den arbeiderstyrte modellen gir oss kontroll over egne arbeidsvilkår og er integrert i kampen for å avskaffe kapitalistisk utbytting og statlig undertrykking, til fordel for et fritt, selvorganisert og solidarisk samfunn hvor arbeidsmakt og produksjon er forent i arbeiderklassens hender.

US revokes visa of Colombia’s Petro after he called on soldiers to disobey Trump
Petro, who has previously clashed with the Trump administration on migration and drug trafficking issues, repeated his call for an armed force to “free Palestine” while addressing a group of pro-Palestine supporters outside the United Nations headquarters on Friday.
“It (the global force) has to be bigger than that of the United States. That’s why from here, from New York, I ask all the soldiers of the army of the US not to point their rifles at humanity,” Petro is heard saying in a video posted to social media. “Disobey the orders of Trump. Obey the orders of humanity,” he added
In response, Petro said the United States’ decision “breaks all the norms of immunity on which the functioning of the United Nations and its General Assembly is based.”
“The fact that the Palestinian Authority was not allowed entry and that my visa was revoked for asking the US and Israeli armies not to support a genocide, which is a crime against all humanity, demonstrates that the US government no longer complies with international law,” he posted on X.

Today I went to the library (a different library than my previous thread) to watch a conference about the digital billboards in the city: their effects on human health and biodiversity, the existing laws regulating their use, whether those laws are being enforced, and the political challenges involved. It was organized by an NGO that has been keeping track of environmental hazards in the city for years.
