I'm reading Lisa Barrett's work on emotions, supposedly a critique of "the classical view" on emotions, which includes Silvan Tomkins seminal studies on affect. I was really excited about what the "new" paradigm could be. To my disappointment, she appears to miss the difference between what Tomkins called affect (which are universal and very few) and complex emotion (which are cultural, constructed by us and never exist alone, ie. without other emotions modulating, hence complex).

Dico a G. che la chiamerà A. dal numero 555-123456 per fissare un appuntamento e mi dice di dirgli di mandarle un messaggio via WA per preavvertire della telefonata, perché "non rispondo a numeri sconosciuti".
Mi chiedo perché non aggiungere subito il numero in rubrica e, al limite, cancellarlo tra un paio di mesi quando non servirà più.
Non è che uno possa sempre mandare un messaggio, che potresti anche non leggere, e poi chiamare.

I know it was 3000 years ago now, but I want everyone to remember that Portland beat Trump last time because normal people came out every night to resist.
Portland made Trump look weak once. He pulled out everything he had to terrorize and intimidate people, and federal agents got pushed out of the city anyway. He was embarrassed. Now he can do more and he probably thinks that he has more time, but Portland maybe able to prove him wrong.
Portland ended Trump's presidency once, and it can happen again... especially if Portland keeps doing a good job of reminding everyone that the whole invasion is an attempt to distract from #Epstein.

A call for the Palestinian people and its resistance to lay down arms is a stab in the struggle of our people and the blood of its martyrs, and contradicts the simplest principles of legitimate liberation struggle.
The call to drop the resistance rifle is also a rejection of the olive branch, as there is no value or meaning to any concept of peace or achieving any of our people’s goals with a settler enemy who believes that there is no such thing as the Palestinian people and that our people are merely human animals to be exterminated. The ongoing open massacre in Gaza speaks of something more dangerous and far-reaching than that.
We in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command affirm that no party has the right to override our people’s legitimate right to resistance, foremost of which is armed struggle. Our people, who have been struggling for a century and after all their great sacrifices, have not and will not surrender to the pressures of the times and the harshness of what they are going through due to an Arab and Islamic reality that is mostly defeated and lacking identity and will.
The historic challenges facing our Palestinian cause require reconsidering the reality of the Palestinian house and the institutions of the Palestine Liberation Organization to express the concept of the national liberation movement instead of seeking solutions and maps that contradict the pride, history, identity, and liberation struggle of our great people.
A revolution until the liberation of the land and the people.

The UN Security Council re-imposes sanctions once lifted under a 2015 nuclear deal, in a move triggered by European states unfoundedly maligning Iran’s nuclear program, while disregarding the West’s own role in undermining the accord.
The council restored the bans on Sunday at 0000 GMT. They will again freeze Iranian assets abroad, halt arms deals with the Islamic Republic and target the country’s defensive missile program.
The move came nearly two days after the United States and its allies predictably vetoed a draft resolution submitted by China and Russia on delaying the so-called “snapback” mechanism inside the deal that would return the bans.

Der Tag gestern war lang, anstrengend und schön.
Wir hatten tolles Wetter für den Herbst, nette Menschen aus Nah und Fern, die bei diesem Bogensportturnier.
üBer 90 Schützinnen waren dabei und hatten mal mehr mal weniger Spaß und auch ein paar Schrottpfeile hat der Parcours zurückgelassen.
Es waren absolute Neulinge dabei aber auch sehr erfahrene SchützInnen, die Punktenäßig so gut wie nichts liegengelassen haben.
Jetzt muss ich aber noch mal los, nach so einem Event heißt es auch immer wieder - Aufäumen

Well I have finally figured out what I‘be been doing wrong with this triangle shawl. I’ve not been increasing at the edges, only down the middle. So it’s going to be a weird derpy shape…I hate the yarn, not sure why…not fun to knit with.
In the meantime I just cast on a cowl about an hour ago, random sock yarn held double and it’s going very quickly.
These are both meant to be Christmas presents.

It all boils down ultimately to the fact that one side, the cruel, are prepared to deploy violence, often massive violence, in order to achieve their aims, whereas the merciful, by their very natures, have been historically highly reluctant to resort to violence.
Should your opponent be prepared to literally stave your head in with a rock, the strength and righteousness of your own argument becomes moot.
