2020 spendete der Immobilienunternehmer Christoph Gröner 800.000 Euro an die Berliner CDU. Danach sagten sowohl er als auch der heutige Regierende Bürgermeister Kai Wegner in Interviews, die Spende sei mit politischen Erwartungen verknüpft gewesen. Damit wäre sie illegal.
Trotz dieser öffentlichen Aussagen erklärte die Bundestagsverwaltung die Spenden für unbedenklich. Ein von uns beauftragtes Rechtsgutachten kam jedoch zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Begründung, mit der die Verwaltung ihre Prüfung einstellte, rechtswidrig sei.

I'm reminded of an incident from Boxing Day a few years back. Mrs B and I were walking the dog in our village. As we walked up Chapel lane there was a man coming in the opposite direction carrying what looked like a festive wreath, very common front door Christmas decorations round here.
It being the day after Christmas, and the jovial atmosphere still in the air, Mrs B said to this guy "that didn't last long!" motioning to the wreath, assuming he had taken down his decorations already. He looked bemused.
Jesus, lighten up mate it's Christmas.
On the way back home down the same lane, we passed the old, now unused, graveyard, and sat on one of the old graves was the wreath 😱. Mrs B was mortified 😂.

I worked with somebody use a very muscular propeller head so to speak.
He thought taking up a managerial role would put him in the position of more decision-making power, but he quickly realized that that’s not really how things work and so left the company
I started as a young knobhead who wrote some trading software on spec, I lived with him while I wrote it - we made a ton of money.
So I got a Real Job to climb the corporate ladder, as one does. Long commute, pay was shit, but the Ladder was there. So I decided to buy a house near the job.
Two weeks from closing, they let me go. I closed anyway. Went back to consulting. I figure I made 3x more than my employee peers immediately.
Amazon will regret letting those managers go. The story ends with the first job begging me to come back in - which I did - as a consultant.
