The International Criminal Court (ICC) will switch its internal work environment away from Microsoft Office to Open Desk, a European open source alternative, the institution confirmed to Euractiv.German newspaper Handelsblatt first reported on the plans. The switch comes amid rising concerns about public bodies being reliant on US tech companies to run their services, which have stepped up sharply since the start of US President Donald Trump’s second administration.
For the ICC, such concerns are not abstract: Trump has repeatedly lashed out at the court and slapped sanctions on its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan.

I’ve not kept up with the latest Mastodon developments, but does anyone know if this sort of feature is planned?
I get that it’s extra complicated with the federated nature, but it feels like something that the major fediverse platforms could agree on a technical implementation of even if yes, technically clients could just choose to show “unapproved” or “hidden” replies.

There has been talk of tackling it after quote posts.
The quote post implementation included a way for a post to include proof that it has permission to include a quote, and for other servers to check if that permission is still valid.
Implementing reply restrictions is fairly similar: you want a way to advertise a reply policy for other servers to enforce, and to determine if reply messages federated from other servers comply with that policy.

That Hardin popularised the term doesn't mean he invented the concept. The discussion of commons' overuse for lack of society dates back to Aristotle, and history is full of practical examples (such as Steller's sea cows).
Academic research, such as Ostrom's, handle how a society administers a resource: it doesn't refute the tragedy when society fails to establish itself, or destructs.
Hardin's contribution was neoliberal/authoritarian, and a poor one.
Doesn't mean the term isn't apt.
