It could still be worth it though. Burning 2 tons of coal would produce 5.7 tons of CO2. An average combustion car produces 3.3 tons of CO2 in Europe, vs 0.7 tons for an electric car. So if you drive your car for more than 2 years, wouldn't it still be better? 🤔

in reply to Erwin Rossen 🔸 • • •@erwinrossen Not worth it. We have vastly overburdened earth's systems. It simply can't cope with 1.4 billion cars, electric or not. And the plan is to add another billion cars.
The problem is not energy production. It is energy and materials consumption.
We are approaching a point where we will be mining a Mount Everest every year to get the materials for our lifestyles. It's just not sustainable.

But I am not convinced that all other improvements are useless. I don't think the world will become a better place by shooting down better-than-current but still not-good-enough solutions.

But its the opposite. These "improvements" are used to keep on consuming, keep on growing. They call for massive acceleration.

A small, acceptable "improvement" that does not threaten existing economic order and its power structures.
