Five-minute(ish) Beanie is the Fastest We’ve Seen Yet
Yes, you read that right– not benchy, but beanie, as in the hat. A toque, for those of us under the Maple Leaf. It’s not 3D printed, either, except perhaps by the loosest definition of the word: it is knit, by [Kevr102]’smotorized turbo knitter.
The turbo-knitter started life as an Addi Express King knitting machine. These circular knitting machines are typically crank-operated, functioning with a cam that turns around to raise and lower special hooked needles that grab and knit the yarn. This particular example was not in good working order when [Kevr102] got a hold of it. Rather than a simple repair, they opted to improve on it.
A 12 volt motor with a printed gear and mount served for motorizing the machine. The original stitch counter proved a problem, so was replaced with an Arduino Nano and a hall effect sensor driving a 7-digit display. In theory, the Arduino could be interfaced with the motor controller and set to run the motor for a specific number of stitches, but in practice there’s no point as the machine needs babysat to maintain tension and avoid dropping stitches and the like. Especially, we imagine, when it runs fast enough to crank out a hat in under six minutes. Watch it go in the oddly cropped demo video embedded below.
Five minutes would still be a very respectable time for benchy, but it’s not going to get you on the SpeedBoatRace leaderboards against something like the minuteman we covered earlier.
If you prefer to take your time, this knitting machine clock might be more your fancy. We don’t see as many fiber arts hacks as perhaps we should here, so if you’re tangled up in anything interesting in that scene, please drop us a line.

Is removing the right of (some) defendants to elect a jury trial the only way of speeding up the justice system or another attack on democratic rights?
Much depends on how much weight you put on the aphorism: 'justice delayed is justice denied', and how far you think that juries ameliorate the (potential) prejudices of judges operating without recourse to the defendant's 'peers'.
Of course, you might feel that the real issue is the justice budget!

Past few weeks, I've been trying to get into Kickstarter and failing--and with the help this past week I got from the Trust & Safety people, I was able to login.
Turns out someone hacked my account exactly after my birthday 🙃 (which was generally the time I started having troubles). Which is why KS acted fast and basically placed my account on the no-no list.
They even took off my avatar, man! Boooo!
Somebody out there is working double time with actual black magic or something on me (I have reasons for saying this not lightly lol), because jiminy christmas, this is like--the 3rd or 4th thing that's happened to me where one of my accounts has gotten hacked! In places where I thought I had 2FA on too, which, well, that forgetfulness is on me.
Still, I'm getting tired of this 
I will say, I only wish KS acted this fast when we ran the Aradia Beat KS because wowie zowie, was my inbox full of scams and spam for a week. Even with reporting them lol.
Anyway, the projects that had these spam messages, if anyone is curious (as was I), were a comic book, some watch thing and fandom bread shaker keychains.

Inspired by this post and the recent nazi Grok debacle I wanted to look a bit into how close are Flat Earth and antisemitism in the #LLMs latent space. So I got the embeddings of a bunch of positive, negative and neutral statements about Jewish people, as well as just neutral everyday statements and flat earther statements and did this hierarchical clustering using cosine similarity as distance metric.
Statements do cluster together quite well.

Waving a placard or getting an abortion don't need prosecutions. Stealing food should never be necessary. PIP "fraud" doesn't need made an example of. Drug use needs treatment and support, not criminalisation.
You cut out all those cases that really aren't in the public interest, the workload across the whole system drops.

But the answers always seems to be sacrificing more services (or rights) and *never* about more funding.
Of course, most people don't have more money to spend for taxes. But it is so very obvious who *does* have the money.

Why is that? The police & CPS do need more budget, but more importantly, time and money needs to be spent on those serious crimes where they can make a difference, not on whatever political priorities come down from the Home Office or the NPCC (ACPO as was).
‘Serious’ being against the person, less against property, not at all about political expression.
