After a long delay, people in a small part of France received an official order for certain vulnerable people should avoid drinking tap water, due to presence of PFAS in the water supply. The warning focused on babies, pregnant women and the immunocompromised. That decision is based on caution, which has some rational basis. But actually, no one knows how much harm

in reply to Richard Stallman

[2/2] various PFAS are likely to do to those people, or to other people. We have reasons to think they might do harm, but we don't know. There are hundreds of different PFAS, and no one knows what effects each one might have. Collecting statistics on exposure to each one, and on the medical problems that develop at various exposure levels, is likely to take decades.

I am absolutely gobsmacked by how amazing this is—a new kind of storytelling?

and unlike those historians actually support the narrative of being indigenous, maybe with some Egyptian admixture but hardly much. shockingly, the book that claims the earth is 5,785 years old is sometimes wrong.
(sorry I can't get it to thread)

@FishNamedDog
There's no generally-accepted definition of "indigenous peoples". Therefore, no credible historian or scientist will use the term. Because it's vague and readily misrepresented, it's a staple of Zionist hasbara.

Professor Shlomo Sand of Tel Aviv University researched the Jewish People. He didn't find one. He found many people who call themselves Jewish. Few have any connection with the Middle East, except for their chosen religion.

Palestine has been shared for centuries. Majority Jewish. Majority Christian. Majority Muslim. Shared.

Christianity originated in Palestine (Roman Judea). By your logic, that makes all Christians "indigenous". Should Jewish Israelis therefore be dispossessed in favour of Christians?

Calling themselves Jewish does not give people an extraordinary claim to the land. It certainly does not entitle them to dispossess existing inhabitants.

"no credible historian or scientist will use the term" sure see a lot of it then
>by your logic
misrepresentation. Jews have maintained a strict ethnic identity (given historical facts & the location -- Italian, i.e. Roman--the reason we're often white passing is PROBABLY due to rape), while Christians share no real ethnic identity globally. Ethnoreligion != religion
cont later, with more details on Sand
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

Ok. >shared
Under dhimmi laws or Roman/Byzantine laws, yes, although with semifrequent expulsions. But by that logic because there are still Arabs in the region it still counts as "shared" -- why object?
> shlomo sand
who subscribes to the khazar hypothesis. FWIW, there is an academic paper called "No evidence from genome-wide data of a Khazar origin for the Ashkenazi Jews" pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/250791…
more to come
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

Many preeminent historians and authors, writing in Haaretz (web.archive.org/web/2009030315…), the liberal and anti-Israel New Republic (newrepublic.com/article/72363/…), and others (lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v35/n12/da…) have called it basically wrong. but there is a deeper genetic/cultural argument against it.
(don't worry I'm not even CLOSE to done, I haven't even done the linkdump on Jewish genetics)
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

OK linkdump time
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/205602… "shared middle eastern ancestry"
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/205314… "remarkably tight subcluster" (regarding different Jewish ethnic groups)
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/108019… Jewish and MENA non-Jews share a common pool of...something on the Y-chromosome
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/883891… "more evidence for a Middle Eastern origin of the Jews" (1996)
Palestinians are genetically closer to Ashkenazim than Bedouin: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/…
(more to come)
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

there are a LOT of genetic studies on Jews
scientist-speak understatement: "the great majority of present-day Jewish groups and Levantine Arabic-speaking groups, are consistent with having 50% or more of their ancestry from people related to groups who lived in the Bronze Age Levant and the Chalcolithic Zagros" (fwiw Saudis came out as highest in this study so something might be wrong with it) pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/…
palestinian "substantial overlap": pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/111539…
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

But there's another argument against this, which is that we should consider this as not just genetic but cultural; any system that cannot determine if, say, Wilma Mankiller or Zitkala-Sa were white or Native American might need some fine-tuning. Similarly, while Sally Hemings may have been genetically three-quarters white, I'd say it's a bit of a stretch to claim she was.

in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

culturally Israeli Jews, and Diaspora Jews to a lesser extent, speak the same language, practice the same religion, and are genetically similar as the inhabitants of the region 2,000 years ago. (They might've spoken Aramaic. But that's a lot closer to Hebrew than Arabic socially/linguistically)
Palestinians are also genetically similar. But they don't speak the same language or practice the same religion.
At best, both are about equally removed from hunter-gatherers.
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

Your resort to Gish-gallop tactics does you no credit @FishNamedDog
It serves only to demonstrate that, when it can't convince, hasbara seeks to overwhelm.

Though the book triggered an avalanche of hasbara, the fact that an Israeli academic couldn't find a Jewish people strongly implies that there isn't one.

A Jewish perspective on the ideology that spawned Israel:
"Zionism is a false idol that has taken the idea of the promised land and turned it into a deed of sale for a militaristic ethnostate".

1) There are gish gallops and there are citations to peer-reviewed academic papers. Tell me, if I'd cited only one -- would you have found fault with that and asked why I couldn't find more? I could see that response.
2) hasbara literally means explanation. you know that, right?
3) Nu, it goes both ways; In 1946 Palestinian (PLO definition) historian Philip Hitti said that there was "actually no such entity as Palestine -- never had been" (quote from arabamerica.com)
in reply to a fish named dog 🎗️✡️♾️

The hasbara about hasbara is as you say @FishNamedDog
The reality is something else:
criticalresist.substack.com/p/…

The first known written references to Palestinians are Egyptian inscriptions dating from ~1150 BCE. The boundaries of their homelands vary over time.

The fact that the "chosen people" of Israeli National Zionism are no more valid than the "master race" of German National Socialism strikes at the foundations of the ideology. The artificial structure named "Israel" collapses.

Even if it were otherwise, Zionists' displacement of the existing population would still be criminal. Israel is proceeds of those crimes. To benefit from proceeds of crime is also criminal.
