Nah, this makes sense. Asian sizes are small - even when I was underweight I was an L in Asian clothing because I'm 5'9" so my frame is different. Small, Medium, Large are relative. What gets me in women's sizing is I can be a "28" when no part of me measures 28". Or an 8, what even is that?

This one Florida crew I was on had a rotating cast of 19yo weed & Xbox kids who'd been caught on minor drug charges.
They were harmless. And also, clumsy af. Big kids who had no idea where their feet were. They kept stepping on the blueberry transplants we'd just planted.
Another crew was a bunch of minors who were working as "community service" for juvie.

I think EVERYONE should have to detassel corn for a DAY. As farm work goes, its probably the easiest, and to learn, but its still hard work - the (seed) corn is only 1-2 ft tall so bending; your hands get shredded; you're in the middle of a massive flat corn field in 30C+ weather in the sun.
I did corn for six summers; its seasonal, pays pretty good but I could not imagine doing tobacco, any field produce, berries - absolute nightmare food. Back hurts just thinking.
I'd rather be executed than do detasseling again. Not only did it suck with the sweltering heat and humidity that makes you feel like you can't breathe (corn sweat!), but the constant cuts from corn leaves.... and I was highly allergic and my face swelled up like a balloon and I could barely see
As a kid that grew up on a farm this needs to be said louder. AG labor not only takes real skills and knowledge but also a dedication to work long hours when the weather is right for planting/harvesting and the endurance to do it. It also can be a job with zero days off. Ask the average dairy farmer what the weekend or a vacation is and they'll look at you cross-eyed.
If we want a 100% US AG Workforce than let's create a path to citizenship for the people that want to do the work. The immigrant harvesting the fields or working a meat packing plant is not a threat to our nation but not having them is.
And while we're at it let's break up the big AG monopolies so that small family farms and small AG businesses can compete.
A few years ago there was a story about vineyard owners who couldn't find workers, because there was no affordable housing near the fields and people in nearby cities couldn't afford cars to commute to the vinyards on the wages offered. But yeah, people just don't want to work these days 🤦🏽♀️
@JosephMeyer Unfortunately I think there are plenty of people who will see footage of food rotting in the fields and say it's because the poors are lazy & only want handouts.
@rejinl This week I heard a piece on our local NPR station where a potato farmer was interviewed; he said he can't get local workers at $17/hr.
Of course, that's just a seasonal job doing heavy physical labor outdoors in the heat, and the housing and transportation issues are real barriers. And I think his is a small farm, so not necessarily representative of the big ag operations.
Indeed, "people don't want to work" doesn't seem like a satisfactory explanation.
@rejinl We turned a bunch of the best near-urban farmland in the world into suburbs, kicked the farms out so far that few people can commute there, and now complain that there aren’t enough farmworkers.
A planned economy would have easily avoided this. The free market has now rendered a lot of the best farmland in the world unusable for growing crops, to build housing, and also nobody likes living in suburbs and we still have a housing crisis.

That's federal law, since the Clinton Administration, over 30 years ago. ABAWDs (able-bodied adults aged 18-64 without dependents) do *not* qualify for Medicaid, at all, unless they are employed, period.
Only children, disabled people, people with dependents who are full-time caregivers, and the elderly get a free pass.

@Star12Mt @alienghic @ufwupdates I know all this, because I have been an ABAWD on Medicaid, and the restrictions only get lifted under particular economic downturn conditions, and even then, only when the Governor of a state requests the waiver, which they don't always do.
ABAWDs do not get public assistance without employment. Period.
Most recently, waivers were granted during the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic, but all those have since expired.
@gcvsa I remember being in my teens and learning someone I knew was on Medicaid, disability, and also worked odd jobs (which they very bluntly told me was less pay than a normal job, but a normal job would report their pay and then they would lose their benefits, and they needed medicaid). I was amazed, because I didn't realize how little disability paid - that people are basically forced to game the system just to make rent, basically. Even back then, $300/mo total wasn't enough.
@alienghic This doesn't even begin to address the fact that even if these putative 34 million people existed, most of them almost certainly do not exist in places where they can be employed as farm labor, because they are mostly not in locations that are suitable for modern agriculture.

@gcvsa @alienghic to me this clearly states that the administration wants to gather up people on Medicaid into on-site forced work camps (not that would be able to do this physically taxing and skilled work). Sounds familiar somehow...
Plus, that work is hugely physically demanding. (Duh, right?) Sometimes meaning plain strength, always meaning enormous levels of stamina and endurance. Without practice, you're toast. It's like going up against a rowing athlete when all you've done is puddle about on the lake a few Sundays.
Just one example, watching the cabbage harvest. Heft an ordinary white cabbage. About 3-4 lbs? The pickers would run, _run_, with carefully packed flats holding 12 heads, drop that off at the central collection tractor, and run back to continue picking.
They'd do that, starting at 5 or 6 in the morning, one early 15 min break, lunch 30 min or an hour, one later 15 min break, and then home after 8 solid hours of work around 3pm. (And then my neighbor would get the kids sorted out, cook dinner, and deal with errands. She was probably typical in having two actual jobs.)
And politicians think they can get disabled Medicaid people or prison labor to work to that level?
riiight - let's take arguably the hardest manual-labour jobs there are and push the most fragile members of the population into those roles. Many of whom have already been excluded from even sedate air-conditioned office jobs due to health problems. Implausible and potential performative cruelty.

Soldering can create fumes, mostly from flux. Work in a well-ventilated area and use a fume extractor. If you don't have a fume extractor, you can make your own!
Always wear safety glasses when soldering. You don't want a hot glob of solder in your eyes! Also tie back long hair and make sure loose clothing is out of the way.
Reminds me that I still don't know what I messed up that caused the last soldering iron I touched to stop working completely. When I turned it on it would get hot, but could not melt solder anymore. My best guess: I forgot to clean the tip?

@thor Yes. While I don't think the actual solder is gonna splatter, the flux definitely will.. It happens to me from time to time. I guess normal glasses make you 99% safe. I also wear them so i've never had any issue. @iFixit
@nekayee nooo... I've not have flux splattering or spluttering in that manner either. Neither the flux infused solder nor the massive amounts of flux I use when using the hot air or the tweezer soldering iron. 🤷♂️
Could it be dirt reacting with the flux? I tend to clean the circuits before working on them..
@thor It only happens when i feed large amounts of my leaded solder into my iron. So it all depends. But i definitely recommend wearing any glasses. Eyes are not as easily fixed as electronic circuits 😀 @iFixit
@nekayee @thor Flux splatters more violently when the iron is too hot, which might be why it only happens to you when using leaded solder. When you solder next, see if you notice splatters of flux on your work surface. It tends to happen normally, though to a lesser extent.

Note: If the option isn't there, your instance has not updated to the version including it yet. Be patient, it will likely be added in the weeks to come.
3. From the "Who can quote" drop-menu, you can choose either "Everyone", "Followers and mentioned users", or "Only mentioned users"
4. Once the next version is released, you will be ready for Quote Posts! No matter your choices 💪
