We've been seeking out milkweed, and finding female Thisbe's tarantula-hawk wasps (Pepsis thisbe) at every cluster. In these photographs they are nectaring on narrowleaf milkweed (Asclepias fascicularis), but we also came across an occupied kotolo (Asclepias eriocarpa).
No sign of monarchs (Danaus plexippus).
Dragonfly is a female western pondhawk (Erythemis collocata).
Butterfly... seek by iNaturalist is being insistent that this is a mylitta crescent (Phyciodes mylitta). Yet, "Mylitta lacks black bar at trailing edge of forewing" has me considering the typically darker marked field crescent (Phyciodes pulchella). Thoughts? Tips?
