On one level Robert Shrimsley (FT) is right the UK is living beyond its means, we are not as rich as we think we are (mid-20s in GDP per capita terms), and as such we have a crisis in the public sector because we cannot (in the current political environment) find an acceptable way to fund the public services we want.
But, Shrimsley blames 'tax-resistant' voters, even while recognising many people are struggling.
Rather the problem is a skewed system that distributes money upwards!

every time i see someone talking about raising taxes they always ask "would you want to see taxes increaded on people like you" and then when most people point out they can't afford higher taxes because they are already struggling, it is declared that most people oppose raising taxes!
