Ugh! i hate masking, but i feel like i have to in order to get along in society. i just made myself not reply to someone's comment. They were happy about something and it reminded me of how happy i was when the literal opposite thing happened to me (trans male versus trans female experiences) and i thought the contrast was really funny and that was a happy thought to me all on it's own, so i wanted to share that. But then the masking kicked in and a rule of conversation that took me decades to learn kicked in: don't comment about your own personal experiences when someone else shares their experience, because if you do you are "making it about yourself". Anyone who follows me has probably seen that i don't follow this rule all the time, but i'd say about half the time i will censor myself because of it.
