If I ever create another character in #FFXIV, I will not make the mistake of not levelling all the crafting and gathering classes at once, so gear is shared.
I think that having four retainers is probably ideal, for an extra $4/mo subscription fee: 2 Miners to eventually mine topsoils simultaneously (you can otherwise only get a single topsoil at a time, when you need 8 to fill a garden), one Botanist, and one Fisher. That also gives you 700 extra inventory slots, 175 per retainer.
and actually, the Rarefied Grilled Rail requires two different ingredients from another universe, because it also requires Abalathian Rock Salt, from one specific place in The Sea of Clouds.
Like, WTF were they thinking? At least travel between the worlds, once you get to that part, is relatively cheap, but from a worldbuilding perspective, it's nonsensical.

Thinking today about the fact that here we are in 2025, three decades after #groupware was invented, and we still don’t have good, easy to use, inexpensive/free groupware.
Lack of good communications system is causing critical failures in the operation of public entities.
The problems I see in the operations of my town government and politics could be easily addressed with a good groupware system that accommodates both public and private asynchronous discussion with archivability.
Yesterday, @neo and me went to #BeitJala for a joint Palestinian / Jewish vigil for the #forcibly_involved children who keep getting killed in #gaza for reasons no one can explain (although many keep trying to invent reasons and believe in them).
It was refreshing to do this among people who know the truth and share our grief.
Thanks to #Combatantsforpeace for organizing this, and to all the people who joined us 💗

"Throughout the book, Doctorow uses an extended medical metaphor, naming his sections things like “The Pathology,” “The Epidemiology,” and finally “The Cure.” But remember, he identified the root cause of enshittification as the profit-seeking nature of corporations themselves, as corporations. By nature, they “would like to charge as much as possible for goods and services while spending as little as possible on… anything.” And as good as they are in a vacuum, none of the proposals in Enshittification would remove that root problem. Instead of a cure, what we get is a series of palliatives.
In the book’s conclusion, Doctorow writes that he’s “no true believer in markets as the best arbiter of how our society should work,” and that “like other leftists, I am deeply suspicious of capitalism.” Elsewhere, he’s written favorably about China Miéville’s commentary on the Communist Manifesto. But with that in mind, it’s strange that the solution he arrives at isn’t particularly anti-capitalist or anti-market. In a memorable metaphor, he describes tech CEOs as showing up to work every morning, “going directly to the giant ENSHITTIFICATION lever installed in the C-suite and yanking on it as hard as they can.” But, he says, “the difference is that the lever used to be stuck. It was gummed up by competition, by regulation, by interoperability [users’ ability to easily switch software], and by tech workers’ power and conscience.” By restoring all of those things, he hopes to re-gum the lever.
But this is a limited horizon to aim for. It promises restrained and regulated tech companies, perhaps chastened and better-behaved, but it does not challenge the idea that for-profit companies should be the ones making and maintaining the technology we all rely on. The question remains: why should we accept the existence of a malevolent CEO with an enshittification lever at all?"

in reply to Eduardo Ochs • • •I only have the idea right now, and it is something very vaguely inspired by the traceback buffers in Slime/Sly that would be hard to summarize in a few sentences... my plan was to ask you how you would translate this to two SBCLs running in parallel, with Slime controlling both - just forget the 3-window setting and use a 2-window setting, it would be easier for you - and then I'll start by your translation and build the interface the selects the right Slime target...

Debugging my example, whatever I typed didn't seem to get sending redraw to the gnuplot to redraw yet though so I will still be a few minutes.

in reply to screwlisp • • •Oh right I looked at your picture, something like using named pipes? As you saw in my gif, I gravitated towards emacs server-start and then using an emacsclient process to evaluate in emacs, possibly evaluating eepitch-send.
I forget exactly what, but asyncronously starting an external process inside common lisp slime was necessary to avoid what were tricky hook issues I think.
I really want the eepitch buffer I just pitched to to be able to use eepitch itself on another buffer.

in reply to screwlisp • • •I didn't quite get to it but in my example today, you can see I have a three buffer configuration, where my control buffer is alternating commands between an SBCL image to numerically compute values, and an ECL image running a graphical app.
1. I pitch to sbcl, performs the first step
2. Then I pitch to ecl, performs the second step
Instead I want to watch:
1. I pitch to sbcl, performs the first step
2. sbcl asyncronously pitches to ecl to begin the next step.

in reply to screwlisp • • •here's a working #commonLisp multislime #eev #eepitch, going via emacsclient --eval and #emacs server.
It's (partially) async and works for slime1 ! slime2 ! slime1 and so forth I think.
screwlisp.small-web.org/eev/em…
But it does require M-x server-start. And it's a common lisp object system class (port to emacs lisp? ;p) I dunno. What do you think?
Emacsclient common lisp slime eepitch: the reckoning. Three-way-conversations.

I appreciate how much effort you put into conveying how easy eev is to use.
