GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA MISSION DEPARTURE DELAYED TO PRIORITIZE SAFETY AMID STRONG MEDITERRANEAN WINDS

September 1st, 2025
Due to unsafe weather conditions, we conducted a sea trial and then returned to port to allow the storm to pass. This meant delaying our departure to avoid risking complications with the smaller boats. Facing over 30 knot winds and the unpredictable nature of the Mediterranean, we made this decision to prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants and to safeguard the success of our mission.

They titled the article "Ten Finns join Greta Thunberg's aid flotilla to Gaza", but it is not Greta's flotilla, it's its own organization out of which Greta is one of the Steering Committee members (globalsumudflotilla.org/about/).

Due to extreme weather conditions last night, five of our smaller vessels turned back for
safety reasons. We are relieved to confirm that everyone is safe and accounted for, and
the mission continues.

When small civilian vessels must do the work that governments have failed to do,
sailing to break the siege and end the genocide, challenges like these are common. If
even one of the complicit governments sent their far more capable ships to Gaza, these
obstacles would not fall on ordinary people.
