no, there is no standard way to know if an email has been read, or even just received. It may have been filtered and discarded by an intermediate server without notice at all.

I'm about to start a new novel draft tomorrow. It's a bit hard to count, as there's no universally accepted word count length for a novel, and I've got at least two trunked novels, and a bunch of novel length fanfics. But using say the Hugo award word count length for a novel (over 40k) and going just with non-fanfic ones that are fully completed, published, or contracted, I think this new one will be my 25th novel since 2006. 😱

@antanicus There is a certain self-belief, one might say, arrogance, a writer needs. You've got to believe you can write, that you've got something to say, and that it might even be worth other people's time to read it. It's not easy and it's why I started with fanfic. There's an audience who want to read it, but also, if I'd put something up and it had been universally hated, well I could just disappear from those internet spaces. None of those people knew me. It was a safe way to start out.
