Remember the 3-in-1 project of post, saw, and split-nut driver? Well, I've not done the final post cutting yet. But there's a reason, a much bigger end goal. I thought I'd lay it out for reflection.
First, here's the post in question, resting in a temporary spot. It needs to get out of that spot because it's where the much needed entry 'mudroom' cubby for coats and shoes will be. But that's another project, not the reason here.

Folks, just a heads up, I’ve closed new verification sign ups on Gaza Verified for about two weeks.
We will restart scheduling folks for calls on November 14th with calls to resume on November 17th.
We’ve taken this decision to allow @joynewacc (who, as you know, is herself being forced to endure Israel’s genocide in Gaza) and me time to tend to the people and things we’ve both been neglecting in the past three months as we’ve rushed from one thing to another with Gaza Verified (setting up the site, the emergency campaign, the site redesign/automatic scheduling system, and verifying and interacting on a daily basis with 60 families to help boost their voices and protect their accounts on the Fediverse as well as provide them with technical support, etc., when we can).
We’re both on the verge of burnout and need this time to recharge so we can keep on helping.
We are also very lucky to have @casey and @aseelfromgz joining our team to help us out going forward. (Welcome to the team, both!)
I will personally be taking this time both to return to working on Kitten (which powers Gaza Verified) and the Small Web (which I need to launch next year) as well as improving the Gaza Verified web site to enable you to donate to their fundraisers without drowning in a sea of endless almost-identical aid request messages, enable us to work better as a team, and to reduce the load on any one person going forward.
We’ve rescheduled all existing calls that we were not able to take for technical or other reasons (sometimes people just can’t make it/their Internet goes down/there is an emergency, etc.) for today and tomorrow and, once these seven calls are done, there will be no more for two weeks.
I also want to take this chance to reiterate that just because we have not talked to someone from Gaza at Gaza Verified, it does not mean that they are a scammer. It just means we haven’t had a chance to talk to them yet. Please remember that Gaza Verified exists to protect our friends in Gaza from scammers on Mastodon and that we’ve not had one person who has shown up for an interview not turn out to be a Palestinian from Gaza.
If you want to help, please take a moment to follow the accounts of our existing members and contribute to their fundraisers if you can. Or just send them a few words of support. And share their posts.
And please let our friends and families in Gaza know that Mastodon and the fediverse is a welcoming and safe space for them.

The staircase bannister, at head of stairs, was bolted through a thick bracket to that narrow bit of floor edge at the top step by two M12 bolts. When those bolts were removed the cement between the holes fell apart (refilled in the previous photo). I don't trust that spot anymore.

An adjustable-height post bracket. Can be used vertically or laterally. Has 4 cm of adjusting room.
I could mount this on top of big post, and to ceiling, with room to play. Four screw holes is better than a big plaster hole mess. I could then hide the bracket with a decorative cover or moulding. That would then be 6 points of fixation on 4 faces. Solid.

in reply to wedge • • •Went down and made the Ø 12mm floor pin and insert sleeve. Had to rethread the end and filed a 1 cm square on the other to turn it into the floor. My aim here is to do a mock up of the floor join with a smaller block.
But I'm looking online for a plastic anchor for a Ø 12 mm bolt/screw and I can't find anything.
Do they not exist?
Hope I don't have to make this pin again, smaller.

in reply to wedge • • •The pipe insert, as you probably guess, is to ensure the hole in post doesn’t wear out. The exposed rod is hidden and only extends above floor by not more than 25mm.
Since the top is cut shorter and fitted with the 2-way adjustable support, the support can be unscrewed from post, shortened, and the post lifted off the bottom rod.
Everything easy to mount and dismount. Solid securing. No wall damage (just one hidden hole in the tile floor).

Yes, a decorative moulding box kind of thing. I've been thinking about it.
The post is not exactly rectangular its entire length; gets kind of triangular at the top due to the decorative worm rot and loss of wood. 😂
But if/when I make the tenon (still need to sell this idea), I'll have shoulders at the top to build something on. One corner might be hinged vertically; so I just open the box like a door and lift it off the shoulders.
We'll see. Not there yet.
