I'm old enough to remember when the Federal Government made huge cuts to a program which helped our local food banks stock their shelves. (way back in May of 2025).
"...In the first three months of the year, the federal government has canceled more than 400 truckloads of food deliveries to food banks across the state, according to the California Association of Food Banks.
Eight of those canceled loads were set to be delivered to Food Share of Ventura County.
Monica White, the nonprofit’s president and CEO, said the federal cut is the most severe she has witnessed in her decade in the industry, and it comes at a time when one in four Ventura County residents experiences food insecurity. "

Palestinian detainee Bahīj Mohammad Mahmoud Badr (50), from Beit Liqya west of Ramallah, is facing dire humanitarian and health conditions inside Israel’s “Ganot” prison, amid the ongoing policy of starvation, torture, and total isolation imposed on long-term prisoners.
Badr has lost a significant amount of weight due to deprivation of food and medical care and suffers from chronic pain under deliberate medical neglect. He has also been denied lawyer visits for months.
The detainee remains unaware that his brother, Baher Badr, was released in the latest prisoner exchange, as he has been completely cut off from his family since the genocide in Gaza began.
Israeli prison authorities have repeatedly assaulted him during transfers to visits, forcing him to request that visits be halted to avoid ongoing humiliation and abuse. His case represents the systematic suffering of long-term and life-sentenced Palestinian prisoners.
The Prisoners’ Media Office holds the Israeli occupation fully responsible for Bahīj Badr’s life and calls on international human rights institutions to urgently intervene to stop Israel’s systematic crimes against Palestinian detainees.

The need was so bad, however, the officer wives would get together monthly and make "baby baskets" for unit families who needed it.
