Seguendo il filo del ragionamento di Jager si ottiene, come sottolinei, anche una spiegazione di un certo sentimento di frustrazione delle gente verso la politica. E forse dunque anche di un certo astensionismo (tanto a che serve....)
Non basta essere migliaia a mettere like ad una tendenza perchè questa si traduca in legge, o diventi argomento di dibattito politico "non populista", ma volto a modificare qualcosa seriamente. Anche la politica ha una sua agenda , che non segue per forza l'ultima moda sui social (salvo i populisti, che spesso infatti ottengono larghi consensi rapidamente).
In più la rete è velocissima, le istituzioni, giustamente verrebbe da dire, sono più lente e metodiche. Hanno anche altre cose di cui tener conto. La democrazia è per sua natura complicata, diplomatica, lenta. Cosa che Trump odia ovviamente.
Se ci mettiamo che ci sono stati decenni ('90 e primi '00) in cui la politica veniva totalmente vituperata in ogni sua forma...

so when states and organizations speak about "#housing the #homeless", no one seems to care that this most often means forcing us into preselected buildings or shelters, without being given a choice other than "accept where we are willing to dump/hide you or its nothing"...it is also overlooked that many of these places are poorly run or overcrowded sh¡tholes managed by uncompassionate slum lords, frequently with such issues as mold, faulty or missing equipment/wiring, water leaks and damage, even broken stairs and doors.
...additionally, theres rarely any provision of common comforts, like a bed or place to sit, or even window coverings for privacy. these items are overlooked for us, and we are expected to keep silent and "grateful its not the streets."
...but if we do complain, or leave because its cramped, noisey, has no disability access, or any of the above or different issues, we are looked down upon even further as being "resistant to help, ungrateful..."etc.
...but...helping people doesnt mean choosing the solution for them and forcing them to accept it no matter what...it means personally asking about their needs and working with them to create a solution that works best for them...

(but also jobs that do not require a degree) If you have questions about what it’s like, I can ask people who work there. I think it is a pretty good place to work. Not perfect, of course, but you can be proud of your job; pay and benefits are “fine” as such things go.
A good friend of ours recently left his 30-year career in programming for the MTA and he is having a really great time. The work is always different and exciting, and he is making great new friends. It seems like a very decent life!

Out of sheer nerdiness, I've lately considered coding a metro train simulation to optimize shorter trip times. (That will go on my stack of neglected hobbies.)
I would genuinely love to work for the MTA in IT (it is an interesting system after all!) but unfortunately I'm disadvantaged by my work authorization situation (OPT) and also I don't have prior experience beyond degrees...
