Been away from a while but maybe gonna try to give mastodon a fair shake again. So uh... here's some recent illustration work as an ice re-breaker....

@floreana thanks so much, yes I'm planning to keep posting more art. this has been a very warm welcome back
in reply to Isaac LeFever

I saw your art on r/malaga! It is pretty wonderful. Love your style. Great eye for capturing the spirit of the places.

Say... Why not go full Fedi and open an account on Pixelfed too?:

in reply to *The* Paul Brown

@Bro666 Thanks man, really appreciate it.

I actually did (probably still do?) have Pixelfed account kicking around, I just remember that the site ran really badly a couple years ago and it was pretty dead for content. Has it improved much since then?

in reply to Isaac LeFever

It works fine: solid and stable. As for content, it is no Instagram! But that is up to us the users to correct, right?

Also: perfect integration Pixelfed <-> Mastodon.

Speaking selfishly, I don't use Instagram (or FB, or Threads, or X, or... You get the idea: I am one of _those_ people), but would definitely like to see your new projects in my feed.

in reply to *The* Paul Brown

@Bro666 cool I'll have to dust off that pixelfed account and give it another spin some time soon. Instagram has not been so great for me for the last year, I miss what it used to be a lot

@treelzebub aw thanks, I hope you'll love it!
in reply to Isaac LeFever

They have such a strong European vibe! Do you accept commissions? I'm running a newsletter on European topics and this style would strongly fit, I think.
in reply to Rafa Font 🌻 🇪🇺 🏀

@rafa_font Thank you! Indeed this stuff is Euro inspired. I'm from the states but I live in Amsterdam and these are based on photos I took in Portugal, Italy, and Spain.

And yes I do take commission work, but I'm booked up or traveling for the rest of the year so I won't have any openings until about mid January.

in reply to Isaac LeFever

Lucky you 😀 I'll send you a message through your website to let you know more and to ask you about a price range to see if it fits my budget.
in reply to Isaac LeFever

@rafa_font Funny, I literally couldn’t decide wether your images were from Italy, Spain or Portugal. I love the summer feelings I get from your art. Next southern Europe stop: Greece? 🙂
in reply to Metafrastis

@dgavin thanks! yeah I really like those areas of Europe as a drawing subject. They have great colors and this sort of perfect imperfection to the buildings that I find so charming. It also gives you a lot of leeway to riff and be expressive and still have whatever you come up with usually feel at home in the composition.

We almost went to Greece earlier this year but ended up going to Sicily instead which was incredible. Greece is for sure high on the list. I love the Mediterranean.

@snarl really appreciate that, thank you

Hot dang!!👀✨

AMAZING architecture paintings - I really love the perspective & color tones in each piece! 😘👌

Also: welcome back! 🥳 I hope you're able to find/help build a supportive community of excellent people, & an appreciative audience to boot! 🙌🎉

in reply to Isaac LeFever

Hey Isaac,
In case the user interface for Mastodon is part of why you stepped away from it, keep in mind that there are LOTS of interfaces that you can use for Mastodon.

I use Elk.zone, for instance, which I find to be more like old school Twitter than X, without the cursed algorithm.

in reply to Mark Kraft

@KraftTea ah yeah I've tried Elk in the past, it's not bad. I don't much have an issue with the mastodon interface, I was mainly just struggling to find "my people" last time around. Seems like the ex twitter art community is fractured across several platforms now. I guess we'll see how it goes 🤞
in reply to Isaac LeFever

These are lovely! I get a real Studio Ghibli feel from them.
in reply to Ginnikin

wow thanks, that's a huge compliment. Ghibli is amazing.

@sidawson Thanks man! Yeah I think atmosphere or feeling works to describe illustrations.
in reply to Isaac LeFever

you might want to try one of the fediverse instances that cater to creatives like @mastodon.art. You might get more reach there.
in reply to Stage name Jay Peach

@jaypeach53 I was on that server for about a year and it unfortunately just wasn't for me, but I appreciate the suggestion all the same.
in reply to Isaac LeFever

these are pretty cool! To me they also look like an antidote to the overwhelming wave of art imitation by AI.
in reply to Ivan Sagalaev

@isagalaev thanks! I’m really shooting for my stuff to have that imperfect human touch. Little sloppy and expressive but in a way that feels inviting
in reply to Isaac LeFever

it's not even about being imperfect. It just looks totally different from the "plastic" AI look.
in reply to Isaac LeFever

These are wonderful. Do you have an online store link or instagram link?
in reply to wendinoakland

@wendinoakland Thanks Wendy!

Yeah I'm on instagram at instagram.com/nicetriangles and I have a web shop with some prints at nicetriangle.com/shop

in reply to Isaac LeFever

I love how your palette choices make me feel the atmosphere and the light as if I was there!
in reply to lertsenem

@lertsenem thanks really appreciate that, I've been trying to work on my lighting more on this series, so that's great to hear
in reply to Jaroslav Svoboda

@multi_flexi thanks! I'm using Procreate on an iPad pro 12.9 (I think it's a 2021 model). At the tail end I bounce the file over to my laptop and do some color/texture tweaks in Photoshop.

That's just a fun little thing I do to keep my website more exciting for you. Gives it that kinda wild west anything goes vibe.

In all seriousness I'm not sure what you're talking about I have an SSL cert and it's working fine over here. The payment processor for my web shop wouldn't operate if it wasn't working properly.

@gfkdsgn thanks! I use Procreat on an iPad and then do some color tweaks in Photoshop at the end
in reply to Isaac LeFever

Then I guess your artworks are entirely pixel based. If so, have you tested @Krita already?
in reply to Vector Hugo

@gfkdsgn Yeah mostly raster/pixel. I do vector stuff occasionally when a client project calls for it.

Haven't tried Krita but I'm quite pleased with Procreate and have a workflow I like a lot and a lot of brushes I really adore, so no reason to hop to something new really.

in reply to Isaac LeFever

One of the most beautiful things in the #FOSS movement is that it encourages all #YOUsers to participate. The Rakurri Brushes been created so #AdobePhotoshop #Art and #Artists can adopt #Krita easy.
This might be FYI...

in reply to Vector Hugo

@gfkdsgn Cool to know. Like I said though I'm pretty happy with my setup and Photoshop aside, there is really no viable replacement for some of the Adobe tools I use in my professional client work. There is no solid replacement for Illustrator and InDesign period.

The alternatives available are not FOSS and/or are very much not up to snuff and would not allow me to properly work with files I get handed by the companies I work with. It's just not at all an option for what I do unfortunately.

in reply to Isaac LeFever

@gfkdsgn And as far as Procreate is concerned, it's not FOSS but the $10 license I got for it originally all the way back in 2012 is still valid. I think the company making the app are some great people that really care about the creative community and aren't just trying to milk everyone for all the money they have. I'm happy to continue supporting them until that changes.
in reply to Vector Hugo

@gfkdsgn For what I do I assure you that inkscape is not a viable replacement. I do a lot of work with very technical packaging print files with dielines and cad drawings and that sort of thing and I use a plugin suite on top of it that adds a ton of other functionality on top of just the base Illustrator toolset. Inkscape is 100% not up to snuff. I've tried it. Please just take my word for that.
in reply to Isaac LeFever

Of course I take your @nicetriangle word that it's true for your workflow. Just saying that #Inkscape is perfectly equipped to create #gCODE for our #CNC machine #FreeCAD and #plotter needs.

@publixpace I appreciate the heads up all the same. if that was broken that would not be ideal!
in reply to Isaac LeFever

Don't know what experience you had here, but this is a nice illustration you did.

in reply to Isaac LeFever

hmmm too lovely, the pencil has so much presence and I love the paint-rolled façades
in reply to Isaac LeFever

such incredible work, so glad someone I follow boosted your post:)

I'm glad you're giving Mastodon another shot.... it will likely be the last one standing in the years to come when everything else takes the predictable quick rise (corp/VC) followed by enshitification.

in reply to lps

@lps thanks so much, glad you enjoyed my doodles.

And yeah I think I might agree about mastodon. I just read a really good article by Cory Doctorow on just this topic pluralistic.net/2024/11/02/uly…

@lps
in reply to Isaac LeFever

It's such a great read, I agree:)

I know there are many that aren't crazy about cross posting with other protocols, namely Bsky here, but when it comes to artists/artisans it makes total sense for their livelihoods.

If you could maintain your presence here and push to the other platforms, that seems like the smartest idea. If/when the other VC backed, profit seeking places crash .. as they surely will, you're home safe.

in reply to wendinoakland

@wendinoakland Thanks! The one showing some blue sky showing and the yellow building on the right is Lisbon. The one with teal on some of the buildings is Vietri sul Mare, Italy, and the third is Málaga, Spain.

Haven't been to Bologna yet but it's on the bucket list for sure. It looks lovely from some photos I've seen.

in reply to Isaac LeFever

Lovely architectural drawings! Another thing I never developed. xD
