this past weekend I was in Luxembourg and it positively blew my mind that all public transportation is freeโฆ the trains and buses are gorgeous, modern and super clean. Returning to Paris was a bit of a culture shock ๐
I work in the ticketing system field, I know some cities decided to have a free public transport.
Nevertheless, they still need a ticketing system as it's not only about selling and verifying tickets and avoid frauds, a ticketing system is also needed to monitor how people move (what station they start, where they go, etc.), to be able to adapt the service offer to people needs.
