I'm interested in the project but it looks like your site and all the documentation is fixed in a very dark theme that's impossible to read for some of us.

Someone boosted this, and it was the first time I heard about Bonfire. The site looks really great. Great tagline: customisable, etc. What more to wish for.

But I had hard time finding out what it can do for me. Is it microblogging? Think so, but it is not made explicit.

I jumped over the FAQ, but the question about how bonfire compares to other apps like has a large table but no row for Bonfire itself. I guess it is assumed to be known.
And this is just an example of what I ran into

My conclusion for now is: great website, nice vibe. But no idea what it can do for me or others

@bringolo thanks for the feedback! We added the features list in the homepage to give a glimpse on how bonfire can be used, but more solid examples may be needed! you can head over bonfirenetworks.org/case_studi… to read about how some communities plan to use bonfire eventually ? good suggestion about adding the bonfire row in the comparison list

@bringolo this blog post may help as well: bonfirenetworks.org/posts/not_…

Is it possible to use bonfire for a subset of its features? For example if the community I focus on would only use something to organize and list events, can I disable most of the other functionality. Or is it meant as a more holistic, all features work in tandem, platform.

yes being able to finetune your instance according to your needs is exactly the goal!

From settings -> extensions you can (both as an instance admin or an individual user) enable or disable extensions to customise the instance features πŸ”₯

so federated google+?? Kidding aside this looks very fun. Will have to read more.

Looks good visually, but having never heard of bonfire, I have no idea what it is. Looking at the website doesn't tell me either. Just a bunch of features without the overall context. Wearing my day job web consultancy hat, I'd say that's a pretty big fail.

Is this just Mastodon with a fancy UI theme? I didn't really understand what's unique about it.
in reply to Dzso

@Jo @Bonfire Bonfire is to Mastodon, exactly the same way a CRM is to Linkedin. In practice, Bonfire is a publishing platform, a task manager, a marketplace, an event manager, but equipped with all the social features allowed by Activitypub and typical of a social network based on Activitypub

Excited to switch from my boring masto-compatible home to Bonfire. How ready is the declared feature "You can move your identity and import your data from another instance, whether that instance is running Bonfire, Mastodon, or another"? Got a guide how I'd get my existing posts out of Pleroma and import them and switch over, keeping my identity?
in reply to Julian Foad

@julian it is implemented and will undergo testing and improvement as part of our current milestone πŸ˜€
