MetaAI is currently the only game in town for WhatsApp users.
We've notified Meta of possible interim measures to reverse exclusion of third-party AI assistants from WhatsApp.
In Europe, dominant tech companies cannot be allowed to abuse their market power for unfair advantage.

However, under our Digital Services Act (DSA), companies like META are also obliged to offer users an opt-out from addictive algorithms, to address disinformation, and keep users safe. You can see which companies we are supervising under the DSA here: link.europa.eu/ngkJPH

“Opt out” is not a solution when defaults dominate the user experience, and therefore shape our society most.
The social web is still a highly toxic, abusive and manipulative place. The EU isn’t ignoring the problems, but this has been festering for decades now and solutions don’t seem to be as proportionate or targetted as the problem.

The problem is not that they are preventing european firms from selling crappy AI on whatsapp. The problem is that AI is crap OVERALL and that there is no way I can prevent Facebook from force-updating my application to make me install a product that I do not want to use.
Chatbots should be like cookies in that "bundling" of chatbot products unnecessary for core functionality should be disallowed

But more fool the people using WhatsApp when secure alternatives are available which don't collect and utilise users' data.

As I said, first step is getting rid of it.
There's no second step.
