Hello Fedi friends,

I'm thinking of making / ordering a custom sweatshirt for #FOSDEM. Graphic design has always been a passion of mine and I used to design t-shirts and sweatshirts back in the day (to promote the visibility of women in film).

Anyway, my top candidate for FOSDEM is a sweatshirt that reads:

liberté
égalité
souveraineté
(numérique)

numérique in small size, making the 3 preceding words really stand out. What do you think?

  • Yes go for it (71%, 92 votes)
  • I don't like it (3%, 4 votes)
  • I don't know what it means (25%, 33 votes)
129 voters. Poll end: in 16 ore

well, from my point of view, the word "souveraineté" carries a lot of things that I don't want to see in the libre software movement...

@neox

To counter balance that, I have been recently suggested to replace souveraineté by indépendance.

Liberté
Égalité
Fraternité
Indépendance (numérique)

🤔

Or LIFE if you re order the words.

@fresseng @neox I also like fraternité, it is the scope... And I like more independence than sovereignty as concept.
My 2 cents...
in reply to Rickyx

@rickyx I actually already have a beautiful DIY sweatshirt that reads liberté égalité sororité - so maybe I’ll go in a different direction with the new sweatshirt for FOSDEM. Thank you for all the great feedback 🙏

I really like your profile picture t shirt.

I also have a good claim for opensource software. It’s called #thefutureisopen

With a blue/yellow color palette. Showing both subtle support for Ukraine and the EU as DigSov is a transnational movement. And while the discussion is mostly in the EU right now, DigSov should be a global thing 😀

Hi @_elena,
not knowing your expectations, I would put a web address on it (or make the slogan a web address) and mention the #fediverse somehow.

@mro oh no expectations whatsoever, just a cool slogan to display 🤗 but thank you for the suggestion

You’re certainly someone with good ideas. Your daughter has an excellent role model readily to hand.

@JamesAshburnerCBR you're very kind James. I'm not sure if she appreciates that at 4, but I'm definitely planting some seeds...

I gained a great deal of similar inspiration from my father—across various fields. He was appreciated by others for his guidance, problem-solving, and—rare then—risk awareness and management. I recall our skilled tradesmen saying “I’ll ask Francis”, and in yacht club works, “Ask the Ashburners” meaning either Francis or young teenage me.

@JDGooiker thanks!

and it's so funny when I read #Féderer my first thought was Roger (the tennis champ). Even for me, someone so deeply invested in the Fediverse. So while I like it, I prefer not to cause confusion 😅

in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Oh okay I know what it says now just translated it. Definitely go for it.

Autres suggestions, pas pour remplacer ton idée, mais pour d'autres t-shirts :

«Ni Algorithme, Ni Maître» (Je vais m'en faire un avec celui-là, je pense.)

«The Revolution Will Not Be Centralized.» (Clin d'oeil à The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.)

«Faites chier l'oligarchie, joignez le FOSDEM.» (Bon, je m'emporte.)

in reply to Michel Patrice

@MichelPatrice super, merci Michel ! I was thinking “the rebellion will be federated” or “the rebellion will be self-hosted” 🤗
in reply to Elena Rossini ⁂

Actually, it is your «the future is federated» that made me initially think about «The revolution will not be televised.»

Du choc des idées naissent d'autres idées.
