As the last quarter of 2026 approaches, here is a recap of what has been accomplished over the last year in the Raccoon app, alongside a look ahead at what's coming next. The project started in 2024 as a spin-off of the Lemmy client, and many early technical decisions reflected the state of KMP at a time when it was still in its infancy. As the ecosystem matured over the last couple of years, an effort was made to keep Raccoon aligned with cutting-edge technologies: Kotlin, AGP, Gradle, Compose Multiplatform, Navigation 3, Metro DI, networking, and more. This enabled a gradual cleanup of the codebase, transitioning Raccoon from a "quick and dirty" experiment to create a client for Mastodon and Friendica into a solid and healthy project, built to scale in the coming years.
