We used and sometimes still use instagram and other social networks. Purity is not the point. The point is recognising traps and regain agency. step by step, each one at its own pace.
yesterday on instagram i saw a band self-identified with DIY punk etc. advertising some left-over merch: 'buy it so we can go on tour'. classic, I have seen it so many times it's almost normal
supporting a band through merch has always been part of punk.
but is it possible that in 2026 buying merch has become basically THE MAIN way to show support in the punk scene?
buy this t-shirt for gaza, buy this record for that cause...
It's always about consuming things. Things 99% of the time we don't need.
