🇬🇧 Von der Leyen‘s EU Commission sues the European Data Protection Supervisor to keep using Microsoft Office and Cloud Suite which violate EU privacy rules.

Did anyone hope this Commission would crack down on Microsoft for the violations?

This is completely unacceptable behaviour by @EUCommission .

@EUCommission : you are *violating* the basic principles of the EU. Please immediately withdraw Case T-262/24 (C/2024/3925) and *stop* using Microsoft. You are wasting EU funds with this action. We are not the Russian Federation, we are the EU. We are supposed to accept facts about the real world. Microsoft has an atrocious track record of privacy. Withdraw Case T-262/24 now!

Not surprising. Microsoft has had carte blanche from the EU to do what they want for a while, that’s why Microsoft thinks it’s okay to blackmail governments like they did with the UK during the CMA block of the Activision Acquisition.

my reading of the summary of the EDPS decision edps.europa.eu/system/files/20… is that the Commission has five months left to fix the license agreement to make sure they comply with the GDPR (or stop using Microsoft 365, but apparently big tech can be convinced to use more favourable terms with enough pressure). IANAL though.
