Non pensavo sarebbe servito (o sarebbe stato possibile?) fare questo post, perché banalmente le mie previsioni prevedevano uno scenario previsto molto più prevedibilmente banale e/o avvilente… e invece la sessione di esami di questa estate alla mia assurdiversità è finita nel modo che nell’universo intero francamente meno pareva possibile. E quindi boh, bona, il bilancio per una singola buona volta è positivo… ma, prima, un attimo di ordine. 😼Il morale era partito ben rasoterra, perché questo semestre era segnato da ben 4 esami anziché i soliti 3 — di cui 2 più matematici che informatici; e io mi chiedo quando cazzo finiscono, che io sono una ragazza magica, non una matematica — e, visto che fin’ora l’andazzo è stato che ad ogni semestre riuscivo a completare 2/3 degli esami (non in media eh, ma proprio esattamente questa quantità ogni volta), ma il 2/3 di 4 esami non si può fare, allora già mi disperavo, sapendo che ne sarei riuscita a fare solo 2/4, che è peggio, in quanto la mia speedrun si rallenta inevitabilmente. E ok, a regola non c’è motivo di disperarsi sapendo già perfettamente che 2 esami non li avrei potuti fare assolutamente (e infatti così è andata), ma c’è sempre sotto sotto la paurina di non riuscire a fare nemmeno gli altri 2, e quindi sprecare un’intera sessione… 😱
Vabbè, insomma: escluse a priori le 2 materie per me veramente difficili (perché guardavo in faccia gli esercizi a tempo perso e non capivo neanche dove iniziare a mettere le mani, maremma scuoiata), rimanevano soltanto da un lato quella di cui lo scritto era una barzelletta, e dall’altro quella che io svolgo praticamente pisciando, entrambe di cui ho fatto e superato le prove intercorso pure da mezza addormentata… Quindi, più precisamente, rimanevano gli orali, e proprio lì si celava il brutto che mi ha portata assolutamente (le mie cronache scritte, ahimè, lo testimoniano, e di ciò ne verranno a conoscenza pure i posteri!) a rottare per tutto il mese di giugno e metà di luglio, portandomi a trascinarmi davvero fino all’ultimo il completamento di questi esami lasciati aperti: per l’uno la prospettata estrema difficoltà (che quindi minacciava il dover studiare per davvero, un vero incubo), e per l’altro il dover completare il progetto web per cui mi rompevo stranamente le scatoline… ops. 😩
Per la prima materia, Reti, i prof. in realtà dissero che il risultato delle prove scritte si poteva conservare per un (1) anno; cosa letteralmente straordinaria, mai vista da nessuna parte, fatta per evitare che la gente si precipiti all’orale senza sapere niente, facendo soltanto perdere tempo e fatica ai professori che ehh lavorano… ma io sapevo che dovevo farlo subito, perché a settembre non ho neanche idea di dove stia l’Università, mentre nel 2026 avrei ovviamente gli altri esami tra le scatole, quindi questo lo avrei in buona sostanza perso. E quindi boh, ho avuto intere settimane per studiare, che ovviamente non ho usato per studiare, però 1-2 giorni prima ho avuto almeno la decenza di leggere degli appunti con una grossa collezione di domande… e ok, più che studio è stata ripetizione, perché, pur non aprendo letteralmente mai un libro, almeno a lezione seguivo, e quindi le cose non erano troppo pazze assurde mai viste per me. 👍
La fine della fiera è che la mattina maledetta vado lì, sono tra le prime 5-10 persone ad entrare visto che gli altri si cagavano in mano e, follemente, il prof. mi ha riconfermato il 25 della seconda prova scritta, in 5-10 minuti di orale… zamni! Però in minima parte ho avuto anche un bel po’ di culo dalla mia, secondo me, perché dei due professori che c’erano lì mi è capitato quello che credo sia meno intransigente… mentre l’altro, già a prima mattina è riuscito a bocciare uno con appena un paio di domande, yikes. 🤯
Ma, attenzione, perché la cosa veramente impossibile è avvenuta la settimana dopo, con l’altro orale… Con Tecnologie Web, se già era di base tutto un po’ fumoso, perché con le date c’era una mezza confusione — almeno, fino a quando il giorno prima dell’inizio il prof. ha rivelato gli orari precisi per tutti gli orali (per cui attenzione, almeno ha fatto scegliere la preferenza di giorno e momento della giornata, quindi topkekprof) — il giorno stesso sembrava ancora peggio, perché sono arrivata lì la mattina (presto, perché altrimenti gli autobus ops), ho dovuto farmi i fatti miei fino alle 10, e poi aspettare praticamente una intera altra ora chiedendomi che cazzo stesse succedendo, perché chi c’era prima di me ci è rimasto un botto col professore… e, a quanto ho capito, è stato pure rimandato (ma non bocciato, che pazza concessione!) mentre il suo compagno aveva preso un buon voto; vabbè, ci frega poco. 🤫
Beh, la cosa pure per me si è protratta così tanto per le lunghe, ma così tanto, che io non immaginavo mai fosse possibile. In circa 10 minuti ho presentato tutto il sito di e-commerce, e quindi tutto il resto del tempo è stato modifiche miste che il prof. chiedeva al momento, tra backend e frontend… e, a quanto pare, il professore di questa volta era quello più tosto dei due, perché l’altro (che interrogava in un’aula diversa) pare che abbia fatto fare a tutti solo modifiche sceme, mentre questo qui ha tenuto sia me che gli altri per un botto. Il resto della giornata, quindi, oltre a chiedermi per chissà che ora avranno finito quelli che c’erano ancora dopo di me per la mattina, ero in assoluta ansia che il prof. verbalizzasse come promesso… e, quando è arrivata la notifica in serata, sono semplicemente zompata per aria… perché chi cazzo lo ha mai visto un fottuto trenta e lode (30L). (E quindi ok, il prof. mi ha tenuto sotto torchio ma, forse, ne è valsa la pena!!!) 🎇
Scherzando, mi sono preoccupata che questo ora mi rovinasse tremendamente la mia media così perfettamente definita da voti di poco superiori al 18… ma, per fortuna, sembra non aver praticamente neanche un po’ intaccato il numerino, che ancora si attesta attorno ad un 23; che, per sua natura, non da troppo nell’occhio. (Non mi sembra possibile, ma così dice il calcolo automatico della piattaforma, e mi secca calcolare a mano solo per un meme.) Invece, non scherzando, ho dovuto ovviamente aspettare una settimana buona per poter anche solo immaginare di parlare a riguardo di ciò, perché ormai, con la mia sfiga, visti i tanti precedenti, ho preferito aspettare che si chiudesse definitivamente la sessione, e quindi che il voto passasse permanentemente a libretto. Vabbè, ora si gode pesantemente, perché ad agosto posso marcire per benino, senza addosso la pressione del (non) studio!!! 🧟♀️
Comunque, il progetto web, appunto, non era niente di che — e, se vogliamo dirla tutta, Pignio per dei novizi sarebbe sicuramente più difficile da programmare di questa roba qua — pur avendo rispettato tutti i requisiti preposti, perché ovviamente non è che si doveva creare questa grande cosa. Visto che fa ridere, essendo che c’è il README (che ho iniziato e finito la sera prima andando a dormire alle 3 di notte, ovviamente, nonostante poi ai professori non sia servito come invece temevo) con le varie schermate di desain che si vedono, oltre alle cose formali spiegate per chi ha voglia di un gran zzz, ho impostato come pubblica la repo, e allora gnam: gitlab.com/octospacc/ProgettoE…. Chiaramente, l’usare un framework mai visto prima (Jakarta con i suoi merdini), e per cui sul web quasi non si trovano informazioni (ODIO il software di grado enterprise), un po’ mi ha rallentata… ma la cosa che veramente mi ci ha fatto non lavorare è che mi servivano varie immagini, ma mi seccavo ampiamente a procurarmele. I generatori IA lasciamo perdere, i siti di immagini stock fanno tutti schifo a modo loro, e ovviamente le mie manie di perfezionismo mi impedivano di usare banali motori di ricerca, visto che la roba che esce da lì è sempre di qualità molto variabile… quindi alla fine ho usato i siti stock, a suon di tasto destro e salva con nome, ma non con piacere: scaricavo una ventina di immagini un giorno (cioè, buone per circa 5 articoli, e il database ne aveva in totale 40), poi quello dopo mi dimenticavo, e quello dopo ancora, poi mi ricordavo e ne facevo altre 5… un inferno. Superata questa fase, che mi bloccava dall’andare avanti col codice, ovviamente, sono relativamente volata… ma, se non avessi avuto ChatGPT per generare i nomi e le descrizioni degli articoli bizzarri sarei semplicemente deceduta!!! ☠️

UK’s Online Safety Push Shows What Happens When Oversight Becomes OverreachThe UK’s Online Safety Act began rolling out early 2025, introducing several new mandates, some of which are aimed at protecting children from harmful online content. Included in the Act’s mandates, however, are measures that prevent adults from encountering “illegal” content and steps to ensure age verification that limit adults’ anonymity online.
As a result, the Act’s laudable intentions are at risk of being overshadowed by the breadth of its regulatory reach. Without a more balanced, collaborative approach, free speech will suffer.
To date, regulators have taken a heavy-handed approach by rapidly increasing enforcement resources, adding layers of bureaucratic oversight and signaling an aggressive approach to ensuring compliance. Instead of specifically and collaboratively addressing a problem everyone agrees needs to be solved, many are now concerned that a plan ostensibly intended to keep children safe is at risk of seriously infringing on the public’s right to free expression.
This risk is not a surprise to the UK government. When lawmakers approved these measures, they made a conscientious decision to increase censorship in the name of “online safety.” It is fair to ask if UK citizens were equally aware of the trade-off being made.
Recent events indicate the public is not comfortable with this level of intervention. For instance, a petition to repeal the Act is gaining momentum, collecting over 450,000 signatures in just the first few days after it was created.
X is among the companies to have worked hard to be in compliance. However, the timetable for meeting mandatory measures has been unnecessarily tight. And, despite being in compliance, X and its counterparts still face threats of enforcement, fines and rigid oversight, encouraging over-censorship.
Consider as well the emergence of a new "Voluntary” Code of Conduct recently enacted by the UK Home Office and the Violence Prevention Network (VPN) purportedly to address harmful online behaviors before they escalate. Supported by Ofcom, this parallel and duplicative effort was introduced at a time when companies were already pushing hard to meet the requirements in the Online Safety Act.
Government officials responded to questions about additional oversight by saying that the Online Safety Act isn’t “adequate enough to address harmful online behaviors.” This new code of conduct is specifically targeted at social media, gaming, and other interactive platforms to “encourage” proactive enforcement efforts, such as training staff and campaigns to curb “harmful content.”
Because the Voluntary Code of Conduct comes so quickly on the heels of the Act’s enforcement, it inevitably creates a “double compliance” burden. Facing pressure to adopt additional measures on top of the already demanding legal obligations set forth in the Act will only lead to additional curbs to freedom of expression.The UK government doesn't stop there. In addition to increased regulations, a new National Internet Intelligence Investigations team within the British Police will further intensify scrutiny. The team’s sole focus is monitoring social media for signs of unrest, such as anti-immigrant sentiment, to prevent real-world violence. While positioned as a safety measure, it clearly goes far beyond that intent. This move has set off alarm bells for free speech advocates who characterize it as excessive and potentially restrictive.
While everyone agrees protecting children is a critical responsibility, it is also clear that an overly rigorous statutory framework layered with a “voluntary” code and heightened police monitoring, oversteps the intended mission.
To be clear, X is in the business of solutions and we have been vigorously committed to providing a safe and constructive experience for users in the UK and worldwide. A balanced approach is the only way to protect individual liberties, encourage innovation and safeguard children. It’s safe to say that significant changes must take place to achieve these objectives in the UK.

Hello! My name is Thomas P. Conway. Im an independent researcher and systems engineer. I discovered a mathematically complete theoretical framework that I believe could be pretty important for many areas of math and science. However, I am a completely unknown outsider to academia, so I can't just publish my work on ArXiv and call it a day to satisfy Clay Institutes requirements. While I am currently in touch with some academics to help get my work cleaned into sections for ArXiV and journal publication, I wanted to make sure I established public priority for solving the millennium prize problems even if the published journal articles need to come out in pieces over months.
Besides proving priority, I would greatly appreciate your help spreading the word to get this in the face of people with the proper credentials to either verify or disprove my claims. I have found the academic gatekeeping moat to be incredibly difficult to navigate as an outsider especially with the framework I have proposed.
If you do have the credentials as a mathematician or a theoretical physicist but you're skeptical that im yet another typical crackpot trying to sell you a perpetual motion machine or a time cube, thats understandable and your weariness is valid. All I ask is you take a quick browse through the condensed technical guide to check the numbers and see if you think the key conceptual foundations are worth your time to go further with exploring the full paper.

About the Semantic Manifold:
The Semantic Manifold Theory represents a complete theoretical mathematical framework for describing high dimensional semantic topologies. It was originally derived to formalize semantic compression for Large Language Model systems. However once the mathematical framework was complete it showed huge implications for various areas of math, science, computing, and engineering. The framework integrates principles from symmetry, set theory, holomorphic dynamics, theoretical physics, undecidability, and morphic computation to achieve a complete and well-defined description of the Semantic Manifold.
The paper is split into a main body explaining the theory and an appendix full of proofs. The final appendix culminates solutions and proofs to all remaining Millennium Prize Problems from the Clay Mathematics Institute. Additional feats include mathematical predictions for the nature and distribution of Dark Matter as well as Dark Energy based on first principles. Also a mathematically well-defined definition for Observer-Class information processing systems.
An accompanying Technical Guide attempts to condense all key information from the main theory paper while cutting out the narrative chaff for quick access to calculations, key principles, and fundamental proofs. Its suggested the skeptical or those with limited time take a quick look at the Technical Guide first.

Dal 13 al 17 agosto il borgo di Corciano, tra i più belli d’Italia, ospita la 61ª edizione dell’Agosto Corcianese, organizzata dalla Pro Loco con Comune e Regione. Un’edizione più concentrata ma ricca di eventi che uniscono arte, storia e musica.
Ad anticipare la rassegna, dal 6 al 10 agosto, torna il ciclo dedicato alla musica per banda con masterclass e incontri internazionali. “La Bottega del Direttore”, corso tenuto da Catherine Rand (USA) con Anbima Umbria e University of Southern Mississippi, coinvolgerà giovani musicisti in prove, concerti e lezioni aperte. Dal 9 al 10 agosto il Teatro della Filarmonica ospiterà “La Bottega del Compositore” con i vincitori del 33° Concorso di composizione originale per banda: tra loro Salinas Robles, De Meij, Giordani, Sgargi e Omachi. Le opere saranno eseguite nei concerti conclusivi, tra cui quello del 10 agosto con premiazione ufficiale.
Dal 13 agosto il centro storico si anima con rievocazioni, cortei, spettacoli teatrali e musicali. ‘Report Update’ notification that gives an error when clicked
These don’t have a sender, just a notification that says Report Update. When I click on it I’m taken to a completely blank page that just says ‘not found’.
Am I supposed to be getting these? I’ve never got a notification like this before so I’m not sure what it’s supposed to look like if it loads.

Is this the end of Bootloader Unlocking in the EU?
Samsung has decided to proceed with the Bootloader blocking also in Europe, a move that has caused a lot of discussion. Behind this choice is a European regulation that will come into force in August 2025 and which risks changing smartphone usage in Europe forever. This is why other manufacturers may soon follow suit.
From 1 August 2025, new provisions will come into force RED Directive (Radio Equipment Directive), which redefines the compliance requirements for all radio devices sold in Europe. This is a significant change, not so much for the amount of regulations introduced, but for the effect they will have on the entire Android ecosystem. The issue revolves around three articles that impose specific protections: against network interference, personal data compromise, and digital fraud. These are, in themselves, sacrosanct rules.
But the crux comes with the interpretation prevailingEach device must ensure full compliance not only with the hardware, but also with the software that controls the radio modules. This is where the bootloader comes in. Unlocking it essentially allows you to replace the original operating system with an alternative one, such as LineageOS or GrapheneOS.
But these systems, if they modify the radio drivers even minimally, invalidate the CE certification. An uncertified device can no longer be legally marketed or used, at least according to the most stringent reading of the law.
This scenario has therefore led Samsung to protect its devices. Not on a whim, but to avoid any software modifications falling under your legal liability. If a user installs a ROM that interferes with radio frequencies or compromises communications security, the manufacturer (and in some cases the importer) may be held directly liable.
RED does not explicitly talk about unlocking the Bootloader or custom ROM, but it opens one regulatory space in which the margins for maneuver are they narrow. And in doing so, it provides a solid argument for those who have been trying for years to close the loop between hardware, software, and services. After all, customizing the operating system also means breaking away from proprietary services and, therefore, from the model that ties the user to the brand.
Samsung is just the first to move, but it's hard to imagine it will be the only one. Starting in August 2025, it's very likely that other manufacturers will follow suit, at least for the European market.

Project Dystopia: How a Little-Known Non-Profit Has New Orleans Considering Mass, Real-Time Facial Recognition Surveillance
The New Orleans City Council is considering Ordinance 35,137 that would authorize the continued use of the live facial recognition system implemented by Project NOLA. Project NOLA, a non-profit organization, runs a centralized surveillance system that has equipped New Orleans with more than 200 facial recognition cameras at various establishments and residential locations. The program, run by a former officer, was until recently, sending law enforcement live, real time alerts of people identified by facial recognition from predetermined lists. The use of Project NOLA’s live facial recognition system by the New Orleans police was a clear violation of a preexisting 2022 city council ordinance that limited the use of facial recognition technology to searches involving specific cases with violent crime. The 2022 ordinance did not allow for the use of live facial recognition or the mass deployment of the technology. Despite the police’s clear violation of the ordinance, the New Orleans City Council is considering a new ordinance to sanction the mass deployment of live facial recognition.
The possibility that New Orleans will officially implement mass surveillance via facial recognition would be an about-face that would see New Orleans go from a 2020 ordinance that rightly banned facial recognition because of the heightened risk of false positives for Black people to embracing a dystopian future of a dragnet facial recognition surveillance that treats everyone as a suspect. This opens the door to a level of intrusion that we’ve only seen in authoritarian governments. The intrusion will not stop at our faces, Project NOLA can not only track faces, but also clothing, cars, and bikes. The kind of surveillance presents a real threat to our privacy, civil liberties, and undermines our democratic values.
