Sada Social Center expresses its deep concern and strong condemnation regarding TikTok’s appointment of Erica Mindel—a former instructor in the Israeli army’s Armored Corps—as the platform’s new Manager of Hate Speech Policy.According to reports reviewed by Sada Social, Mindel previously worked with the U.S. State Department under Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt, the Biden Administration’s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. This included the deletion of videos with clear journalistic value, and the targeting of accounts belonging to journalists, media outlets, activists, and supporters of the Palestinian cause.
Sada Social also underscores that TikTok has failed to undertake any meaningful internal review of its policies, even after the South African government submitted video evidence to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)—footage that was published on TikTok and depicted Israeli soldiers celebrating the destruction of Palestinian homes, mocking victims, and writing messages on bombs before they were dropped on Gaza. Instead of responding to these disturbing violations, TikTok has continued its partnerships with a political and military regime currently under international investigation.

Not much new here, but we're looking at serving our static sites out of our S3 compatible storage which should free up a bunch of resources in our Kubernetes cluster.

Not a whole lot happened with Pidgin 3 this month as we had our focus on other projects.

- Added a test to make sure the Flatpak dependencies have been updated
- Added support to automatically restore conversations when the application is started
- Replaced the Purple.Plugin data type with GPlugin.Plugin

- Removed a bunch of unused and unnecessary preferences code
- Delete conversations from the database when the user leaves them
- Implement the
/mecommand in IRCv3 - Move the input widget from Gtk.TextView to GtkSource.View
- Added Purple.ScheduledTask and Purple.Scheduler
- Told g-ir-scanner to skip some symbols that need to be replaced
- Deleted the Purple.GdkPixbuf APi

- Use the presence message of a contact as the subtitle for direct messages

- Add persistence to the scheduler.

- Gary has started an out of tree protocol plugin to help figure out how the voice and video API will work.

Pidgin 2
We're still planning on doing a 2.15.0 release, but we haven't moved forward on this at all this month.

We need to finish up the build environment packages so we can upgrade GTK on windows and get that all into the installer. We also need to remember to update the spell checking dictionaries as we haven't done that in awhile.

GPlugin
GPlugin is our GObject based plugin library that is used in Pidgin 3.

Hiya
Hiya is a new client abstraction library for mDNS. It was created to help make implementation of the Link Local Messaging protocol easier as we would have to abstract out the different platform implementations and by putting it in a library that abstraction can be used by other projects.
Hiya has not yet had a release.
Myna
Myna is a new integration library for Matrix. It is still extremely early in development.
Seagull
Seagull is a new library we created to make working with SQLite feel more like a GLIB/GNOME library and force usage of prepared statements with named parameters and other similar things.

Traversity
Traversity is a new library for traversing NATs. There are many different ways to traverse a NAT and the goal of Traversity is to hide that from developers who just need to traverse a NAT.
It is still early in development and has not yet had an official release.
retro-prpl
retro-prpl is a new repository we've created on GitHub. This repository contains all of the abandoned protocols that have ever lived in our code base and is meant to make them easier to study and for people to use with services like Retro AIM Server and NINA.

Beh, comunque stiano davvero le cose, mentre io ormai non ho più il tempo di fare niente… specialmente il gaming… è interessante venire a sapere che GOG sta regalando, da oggi (2 agosto) fino a domani (3 agosto) incluso, una dozzina di giochini della sempreverde categoria de “qualcuno pensi ai bambiiini!!!“… 🤯Ovviamente, la cosa non è senza motivo… Non è perché qualcuno si è svegliato la mattina e ha deciso di regalare giochi… bensì è perché, forse chiunque a questo punto lo avrà almeno sentito, i processori di pagamenti (la MasterVISA Mafia, insomma) si sono svegliati la mattina e — a dire il vero, sotto pressione del tipo di gente tanto ben delineata da quella citazione ormai idiomatica di cui sopra — hanno deciso di iniziare a rifiutare tutti i pagamenti per videogiochi espliciti, da tutte le varie piattaforme per PC… da Steam, fino addirittura ad Itch. I gooner, mi duole ammetterlo, ne sanno forse più di me sulla questione, che io attualmente non ci sto capendo una mezza mazza, perché è successa assieme ad altre schifezze mondiali dello stesso calibro, che però sono tipo scollegate… ma in ogni caso, apriti cielo. 👅
Non è il caso di parlare della questione in sé al momento, perché è un fatto lungo — se non per ricordarvi che ve l’avevo detto più e più volte che è il caso di mandare a quel paese una volta e per tutte queste corporazioni della smerdaglia, ennesimi gatekeeper digitali, e di adottare una buona volta le criptovalute; poiché, pur essendo a mia volta una puritana che odia qualsiasi cosa abbia vagamente a che fare col sesso, sono comunque assolutamente per la libertà, di mercato e non — ma ecco, il bundle al prezzo di soli zero euro mi interessa, perché sono comunque giochi gratis senza DRM e…
Vabbè, mi sono già scocciata di far finta: riscatto comunque tutti i giochi, perché sono pur sempre un’accumulatrice seriale, ma l’unico di cui mi frega qualcosa a primo impatto è Postal 2, essendo tutti gli altri solo palesemente porno; più un paio di cui invece non si capisce nulla senza cercare informazioni altrove (“indie slop”, li chiamerei io per far arrabbiare molta gente)… Si, la pornografia mi fa venire il disgusto, ma il gore simulato (di livello postale e non) me lo guardo tranquillamente pure mentre mangio; ahivoi, sono fatta così. (E chissà se, in queste quasi 24 altre ore rimanenti, si aggiungeranno altri giochi, come il footer della pagina invita… in caso, spero siano riscattabili pure quelli.) 😤
E quindi, quasi stava per sfuggirmi… GOG che c’entra? Banalmente, vista tutta la situazione, GOG ha deciso nel suo piccolo di fare, con il supporto volontario di vari publisher di giochi presenti sulla piattaforma, questa protesta simbolica, sperando di spargere ulteriormente la voce sulla questione, con questa trovata di marketing simpatica. E cazzarola se ci sono riusciti, visto che persino io, che odio malamente i gooner, sto ricondividendo l’iniziativa… FreedomToBuy.Games! 🔥

L’estate di Snow.
L’estate, per Snow, non è mai solo una stagione. È un momento sospeso, fatto di sole che filtra dalla finestra, di voci lontane che parlano di mare e di sabbia, di un silenzio interrotto dal ronzio dei computer. Da tempo Snow vive la vita in carrozzina, dopo l’asportazione di un tumore al cervelletto. Un cambiamento radicale, di quelli che ribaltano tutto, lasciando cicatrici non solo nel corpo ma anche nei pensieri.
Muoversi, viaggiare, fare le cose “semplici” non è più come prima. Ma Snow ha trovato un modo per restare in movimento, per sentirsi vivo e utile: Linux e il Fediverso. Non sono solo passioni, sono una valvola di sfogo, un terreno dove le limitazioni fisiche non contano, dove la mente può correre veloce e le mani, anche se più lente, sanno ancora creare, curare, aggiustare.
C’è Snowfan, la sua comunità, i suoi amici digitali. Prendersene cura significa sentirsi necessario, dare qualcosa a qualcuno, costruire relazioni e offrire supporto. Perché nella vita reale, con una carrozzina che pesa e giorni in cui ogni gesto richiede fatica, sentirsi utile non è semplice. Ma dietro lo schermo, Snow non è un peso per nessuno: è un punto di riferimento.
La famiglia è la sua priorità. Snow vuole che vadano al mare, che escano, che vivano. Non vuole trattenerli, non vuole che la sua presenza diventi un freno. Vuole solo essere lì, nel modo in cui può esserlo meglio: facendo quello che sa fare, dedicandosi al Fediverso, a Linux, alle piccole e grandi cose che scorrono nei suoi server.
E così, l’estate di Snow non è mai vuota. È un’estate di bit e di connessioni, di amicizie digitali che sanno essere vere, di onde che forse non tocca con mano ma che sente comunque vicine.

Is making hard to get files more accessible always good practice (example in post body)?
Piracy in Germany often uses direct downloads via one click hosters(you get an url and download from there, people use services like rapidgator.net). These often get hit with copy right strikes and are slow to unusable for free users. Would downloading for example a TV show via this route and then creating a public torrent "good piracy"? (If anyone has a guide on how to create a torrent, pls share)
Reasons why I think it might be not so good:
- the groups/people need a motivation to provide the content. Distributing it without their consent might reduce their motivation. They also probably paid for some subscription to get the content
- in german context direct download links are often considered safer for people who just want to download, torrenting done wrong can get you pretty high legal fees (500+ €)
- it feels like stealing somebody elses effort
Why I think about doing it:
- this gives people another way to get the content
- torrents are free to use and way faster than those one click hosters (which often give you less than 100kB/s)
- the uploader usually profits via affiliate programs, so when someone buys a premium subscription of a one click hoster, they get a share. I think piracy shouldnt be done for profit
- people (especially outside germany) might have it easier to access torrents instead oneclick hoster solutions
- torrents have no captchas lol

Archive everything. A torrent isn’t perfect but it is far more resilient than a shitty site like rapidgator or mega. If all the seeds drop off they may hop back on someday, if the link is dmcad or otherwise deleted it’s gone forever.
Fuck their e-cred. It’s all stolen. The only time you don’t spread something around is when someone posts something special to a private community to only be shared within that community because leaking it outside of that community could cause them grief or even serious consequences (eg someone leaking content to a private tracker community that they fear could be traced back to them so they specifically ask to keep it within x community). Though tbh I’ve seen this happen at least 4-5x over the years and it always leaks out to the wider internet, people will always share (as they should)

Even then. My general experience is that all of those "please don't share this outside of our private tracker" style stuff is the same crap as everywhere else: They just want to feel special or encourage people to pay for ultra premium and so forth.
As for the actual truly sensitive stuff: If you are posting that to a "community" you are already the equivalent of a War Thunder player. And, quite frankly, there is zero reason that stuff like that should only be shared with a select few randos. Either it is evil shit (at which point I hope they DO get caught) or it is something that should be given to responsible journalists to share to the world at large.

Just in case someone doesn't know why that's the case: Torrenting is still used less then in the rest of the world, because of the unique legal situation. There are big law firms specializing in tracking IP addresses and real identities of torrent users and sending very costly cease and desist letters, even for just torrenting a single movie. I'm sure, people who know what they are doing can find ways to torrent safely. But for everyone who's just come to Germany, it's important to check their online habits and make sure you're still safe.
Concerning morality: What's the worst case? Imagine file sharing actually completely kills the movie, music, gaming and software industry (it won't). All that'd be left would be paying creators in advance to make content people actually want to see and use. As well as collaborative open source projects. All the best stuff comes from those anyway.

Ecco qui il Vuna ormai presente in quasi tutti i supermercati d'Italia:
Fatto con pochissimi ingredienti tra cui i piselli per dargli la stessa consistenza del pesce e insaporitori naturali per riprodurre il sapore. A me piace più del tonno ahah anche perché è assente da antibiotici e sfruttamento come i tonni di allevamento che si comprano in scatoletta o "freschi" al banco (poverini)...
Lato negativo è il prezzo che per me è esagerato ma sono uscite altre 2-3 marche con prezzi paragonabili al tonno di qualità e poi che è un prodotto Nestlé e cioè di un'azienda fortesemente discutibile e che l'etica non sa' neanche come si scrive...
Per il resto è un prodotto assai innovativo e che se non si sa' che non è vegan l'unica cosa di cui ci si accorge è che è buono ahah :grinning:

I was sick of always fighting with WordPress to get a local set up to develop a plug-in or update the theme for a client, so I made a dev container.As per the README, this supports:
* Automatic database dump import and site URL rename
* Automatic WordPress theme and plug-in loading from .zip, wpackagist or directory
* Mounting of a user-provided uploads directoryIt also means your IDE automatically gets access to a WordPress installation for easy auto complete of WordPress functions and features when writing PHP code.
Theoretically, it can also easily be converted into a normal container if you don't use VSCode by setting up /workspace as a mount. Dev containers are unfortunately a bit broken with JetBrains products, and this container will not launch.

Non pensavo sarebbe servito (o sarebbe stato possibile?) fare questo post, perché banalmente le mie previsioni prevedevano uno scenario previsto molto più prevedibilmente banale e/o avvilente… e invece la sessione di esami di questa estate alla mia assurdiversità è finita nel modo che nell’universo intero francamente meno pareva possibile. E quindi boh, bona, il bilancio per una singola buona volta è positivo… ma, prima, un attimo di ordine. 😼Il morale era partito ben rasoterra, perché questo semestre era segnato da ben 4 esami anziché i soliti 3 — di cui 2 più matematici che informatici; e io mi chiedo quando cazzo finiscono, che io sono una ragazza magica, non una matematica — e, visto che fin’ora l’andazzo è stato che ad ogni semestre riuscivo a completare 2/3 degli esami (non in media eh, ma proprio esattamente questa quantità ogni volta), ma il 2/3 di 4 esami non si può fare, allora già mi disperavo, sapendo che ne sarei riuscita a fare solo 2/4, che è peggio, in quanto la mia speedrun si rallenta inevitabilmente. E ok, a regola non c’è motivo di disperarsi sapendo già perfettamente che 2 esami non li avrei potuti fare assolutamente (e infatti così è andata), ma c’è sempre sotto sotto la paurina di non riuscire a fare nemmeno gli altri 2, e quindi sprecare un’intera sessione… 😱
Vabbè, insomma: escluse a priori le 2 materie per me veramente difficili (perché guardavo in faccia gli esercizi a tempo perso e non capivo neanche dove iniziare a mettere le mani, maremma scuoiata), rimanevano soltanto da un lato quella di cui lo scritto era una barzelletta, e dall’altro quella che io svolgo praticamente pisciando, entrambe di cui ho fatto e superato le prove intercorso pure da mezza addormentata… Quindi, più precisamente, rimanevano gli orali, e proprio lì si celava il brutto che mi ha portata assolutamente (le mie cronache scritte, ahimè, lo testimoniano, e di ciò ne verranno a conoscenza pure i posteri!) a rottare per tutto il mese di giugno e metà di luglio, portandomi a trascinarmi davvero fino all’ultimo il completamento di questi esami lasciati aperti: per l’uno la prospettata estrema difficoltà (che quindi minacciava il dover studiare per davvero, un vero incubo), e per l’altro il dover completare il progetto web per cui mi rompevo stranamente le scatoline… ops. 😩
Per la prima materia, Reti, i prof. in realtà dissero che il risultato delle prove scritte si poteva conservare per un (1) anno; cosa letteralmente straordinaria, mai vista da nessuna parte, fatta per evitare che la gente si precipiti all’orale senza sapere niente, facendo soltanto perdere tempo e fatica ai professori che ehh lavorano… ma io sapevo che dovevo farlo subito, perché a settembre non ho neanche idea di dove stia l’Università, mentre nel 2026 avrei ovviamente gli altri esami tra le scatole, quindi questo lo avrei in buona sostanza perso. E quindi boh, ho avuto intere settimane per studiare, che ovviamente non ho usato per studiare, però 1-2 giorni prima ho avuto almeno la decenza di leggere degli appunti con una grossa collezione di domande… e ok, più che studio è stata ripetizione, perché, pur non aprendo letteralmente mai un libro, almeno a lezione seguivo, e quindi le cose non erano troppo pazze assurde mai viste per me. 👍
La fine della fiera è che la mattina maledetta vado lì, sono tra le prime 5-10 persone ad entrare visto che gli altri si cagavano in mano e, follemente, il prof. mi ha riconfermato il 25 della seconda prova scritta, in 5-10 minuti di orale… zamni! Però in minima parte ho avuto anche un bel po’ di culo dalla mia, secondo me, perché dei due professori che c’erano lì mi è capitato quello che credo sia meno intransigente… mentre l’altro, già a prima mattina è riuscito a bocciare uno con appena un paio di domande, yikes. 🤯
Ma, attenzione, perché la cosa veramente impossibile è avvenuta la settimana dopo, con l’altro orale… Con Tecnologie Web, se già era di base tutto un po’ fumoso, perché con le date c’era una mezza confusione — almeno, fino a quando il giorno prima dell’inizio il prof. ha rivelato gli orari precisi per tutti gli orali (per cui attenzione, almeno ha fatto scegliere la preferenza di giorno e momento della giornata, quindi topkekprof) — il giorno stesso sembrava ancora peggio, perché sono arrivata lì la mattina (presto, perché altrimenti gli autobus ops), ho dovuto farmi i fatti miei fino alle 10, e poi aspettare praticamente una intera altra ora chiedendomi che cazzo stesse succedendo, perché chi c’era prima di me ci è rimasto un botto col professore… e, a quanto ho capito, è stato pure rimandato (ma non bocciato, che pazza concessione!) mentre il suo compagno aveva preso un buon voto; vabbè, ci frega poco. 🤫
Beh, la cosa pure per me si è protratta così tanto per le lunghe, ma così tanto, che io non immaginavo mai fosse possibile. In circa 10 minuti ho presentato tutto il sito di e-commerce, e quindi tutto il resto del tempo è stato modifiche miste che il prof. chiedeva al momento, tra backend e frontend… e, a quanto pare, il professore di questa volta era quello più tosto dei due, perché l’altro (che interrogava in un’aula diversa) pare che abbia fatto fare a tutti solo modifiche sceme, mentre questo qui ha tenuto sia me che gli altri per un botto. Il resto della giornata, quindi, oltre a chiedermi per chissà che ora avranno finito quelli che c’erano ancora dopo di me per la mattina, ero in assoluta ansia che il prof. verbalizzasse come promesso… e, quando è arrivata la notifica in serata, sono semplicemente zompata per aria… perché chi cazzo lo ha mai visto un fottuto trenta e lode (30L). (E quindi ok, il prof. mi ha tenuto sotto torchio ma, forse, ne è valsa la pena!!!) 🎇
Scherzando, mi sono preoccupata che questo ora mi rovinasse tremendamente la mia media così perfettamente definita da voti di poco superiori al 18… ma, per fortuna, sembra non aver praticamente neanche un po’ intaccato il numerino, che ancora si attesta attorno ad un 23; che, per sua natura, non da troppo nell’occhio. (Non mi sembra possibile, ma così dice il calcolo automatico della piattaforma, e mi secca calcolare a mano solo per un meme.) Invece, non scherzando, ho dovuto ovviamente aspettare una settimana buona per poter anche solo immaginare di parlare a riguardo di ciò, perché ormai, con la mia sfiga, visti i tanti precedenti, ho preferito aspettare che si chiudesse definitivamente la sessione, e quindi che il voto passasse permanentemente a libretto. Vabbè, ora si gode pesantemente, perché ad agosto posso marcire per benino, senza addosso la pressione del (non) studio!!! 🧟♀️
Comunque, il progetto web, appunto, non era niente di che — e, se vogliamo dirla tutta, Pignio per dei novizi sarebbe sicuramente più difficile da programmare di questa roba qua — pur avendo rispettato tutti i requisiti preposti, perché ovviamente non è che si doveva creare questa grande cosa. Visto che fa ridere, essendo che c’è il README (che ho iniziato e finito la sera prima andando a dormire alle 3 di notte, ovviamente, nonostante poi ai professori non sia servito come invece temevo) con le varie schermate di desain che si vedono, oltre alle cose formali spiegate per chi ha voglia di un gran zzz, ho impostato come pubblica la repo, e allora gnam: gitlab.com/octospacc/ProgettoE…. Chiaramente, l’usare un framework mai visto prima (Jakarta con i suoi merdini), e per cui sul web quasi non si trovano informazioni (ODIO il software di grado enterprise), un po’ mi ha rallentata… ma la cosa che veramente mi ci ha fatto non lavorare è che mi servivano varie immagini, ma mi seccavo ampiamente a procurarmele. I generatori IA lasciamo perdere, i siti di immagini stock fanno tutti schifo a modo loro, e ovviamente le mie manie di perfezionismo mi impedivano di usare banali motori di ricerca, visto che la roba che esce da lì è sempre di qualità molto variabile… quindi alla fine ho usato i siti stock, a suon di tasto destro e salva con nome, ma non con piacere: scaricavo una ventina di immagini un giorno (cioè, buone per circa 5 articoli, e il database ne aveva in totale 40), poi quello dopo mi dimenticavo, e quello dopo ancora, poi mi ricordavo e ne facevo altre 5… un inferno. Superata questa fase, che mi bloccava dall’andare avanti col codice, ovviamente, sono relativamente volata… ma, se non avessi avuto ChatGPT per generare i nomi e le descrizioni degli articoli bizzarri sarei semplicemente deceduta!!! ☠️
