Went to someone's sewing garage sale (clearing out their mother's sewing stuff--thought I'd snag some bargains on stuff I don't yet have), and did *not* get any questions on if I was in the right place... I attribute this to wearing the very bright pink/red shirt I sewed dyed with cochineal. The husband there may have given my shirt a good hard look. 🤔
(I'm a straight male, but, gender roles and all, I think "pink" is a statement. He was chatting proudly with some other lady about a kid or niece or something having a "great job" as a guard at a prison somewhere)
Now I am reminded of Ursula Vernon's "Paladin" series of fantasy novels.
They feature an order of berserker paladin fighters; several of whom spend their spare time spinning thread and knitting socks, because they understandably do not want uncomfortable feet while chasing down demons.
Nobody dares to bother them about this.
Entire armies have been crippled by blisters and athlete's foot and trenchfoot. When your military can't march due to their feet legit rotting off, you can't do shit.
