I see a lot of excitement about the latest carbonbrief analysis on the drop of China’s carbon dioxide emissions despite rapid power demand growth. Is green growth working?
Of course it doesn’t. First, the drop in emissions is marginal, emissions show actually more a plateau than a drop. Second, once the entire power sector moved to renewables the magic will be over, and emissions will recouple with demand growth as there is no longer any potential for emission reductions. There is actually no such thing like « clean energy », power generation has always an environmental footprint. Renewables just have a smaller footprint than fossil fuels, so the shift to renewables brings temporary emission reductions. In the long run, only demand #degrowth offers a sustainable solution.

CONVOCADA MANIFESTACIÓN PARA PROTEGER EUGENIA DE MONTIJO
Como sabéis, se ha reactivado el proyecto especulativo de nuestro querido alcalde Don José Luis Martínez-Asfaltez, lo que implica que se van a destruir áreas verdes del parque Eugenia de Montijo en lugar de ampliarlo, como pide la vecindad desde hace décadas.
Quieren meter varias carreteras de cuatro carriles en varios tramos, así como cortar el parque en cuatro islas separadas, cuando lo que hacen falta son senderos peatonales adaptados, carriles-bici seguros y más áreas verdes.
Este jueves 22 de mayo quedamos para una segunda concentración, a las 19:00 en la puerta del metro de Eugenia de Montijo.
